Others say...
"Subscriptions are not Amazons strength. Order one, and wait, and wait." Second one I've purchased. I should have remembered. Amazon is a great place to purchase many items. And, I love being a customer. But, Magazines are not a good fit. Be prepared to wait two months for your first issue. And, also, be prepared to not get all the issues. I'm hoping that I'm the only one who has this problem. Cause Amazon is great, and so it MacLife.
"No item to review!" I would like to write a review, but I have yet to receive the item ..... MacLife ... that was ordered August 5th 2007. When and/or if I receive it, I will be happy to make my review.
"Economical updates" MAC WORLD HAS BECOME TOO COSTLY. MAC ADDICT IS ECONOMICAL AND PROVIDES ALL THE CURRENT INFO I REQUIRE. GOOD REVIEWS AND PLEASANT FORMAT
"MacAddict Not Worth It Anymore" I have Issue #1 and just received the lastest issue (March 06), but I've let my subscription run-out. MacAddict isn't worth it anymore.
First, I loved MacAddict for "the Disc." Back in the days of pre-broadband, the Disc was a godsend! Software galore! But now in the days of broadband, the Disc is not a good enough reason to get MacAddict. The only original conent on the Disc is the monthly staff movie, I think I watched one staff movie over the years.
Second, the magazine seems to have lost quite a bit of content over the years. The magazine started at over 100 pages and is now a slim 80 pager. Often there is one "feature" article and that's it. Lately I spend about 10 minutes scanning the magazine for anything worth reading and then file it with the others.
Third, the magazine has a pretty weird view of who "Mac Addicts" are. "Mac Addicts" are accomplished musicians (who use Apple's GarageBand) and accomplished cinematographers (who capture video with high-end digital cameras and use iMovie and iDVD on a near daily basis.) They're also people who have the latest and greatest hardware who upgrade at the drop of a hat. I don't do any of those things, and I wager that the majority of Mac users don't do most of those on a regular basis.
Forth, their review section is hit-or-miss. Sometimes, they review relavant products that a good majority of Mac users want to know about. Other times they review fringe products (MIDI accordion, anyone?) or products out of the price range of all but the independently wealthy. The rating system seems to suffer from grade inflation. Nearly every product earns a score of 4 out of 5. If they like something, it gets a 5, if they don't like something, it gets a 3.
On a positive note, Mac Addict is a "fun" magazine. And its news coverage is pretty good.
"Comedy relief, fun articles, and short reviews" Not as deep as MacWorld but worth the subscription due to the alternative perspective on software and hardware. Very fun to read with a unique style of writing. The reviews can rarely be spotty with lack of depth as the culprit in some cases. The majority, though, are on target. The best part of the magazine are the unique 3rd party hardware finds. Overall a great addition and enjoyable read.

What our customer's say!
"beautiful glossy pages of advertising", Stuffed full of adds, this mag occasionally has some helpful articles and reviews, but I doubt there are any that couldn't be found for free on the net.
"Great magazine, but needs to lose the attitude", I've been reading Mac Live for years since they were Mac Addict and continue to enjoy the detailed and applicable reviews. They have shed much of their smarmy attitude, but some remains.
If you are looking for honest, unbiased product reviews and great tips for your macintosh, this is an outstaning magazine.
"Long wait, no CD. Waste of time and money.", Waited five months before I got my first issue. I should have canceled it but I honestly forgot about it for a while.
Then I realized this Amazon subscription does not come with a CD!
That is the whole point of me ordering MacLife - to get the CD with all the extra goodies.
Thank you Amazon and Future Inc. You really know how to treat us great.
"Never got a single issue of my subscription", I did not use Amazon to subscribe to MacLife, as far as I can remember there was an offer on Version Tracker in February 2007. Nevertheless, I have not seen a single issue of the publication. I contacted their customer service a couple of times and finally asked for a refund but did not receive it either.
Subscribe at your own peril.
"Digital Illustrator", Wayyyyyyyyyyyy to many AD's.. Not enough about Mac's!! Or tips & techniques.. I am very disappointed... sorry...
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy...
"A fun read every month!", Let's face it ....... owning a Mac is like owning a Harley or an Airstream.
It's a cult!!!
Good fun. Harmless as can be and it just makes you feel good everytime you sit down at your Mac. Having a magazine come every month with a bunch of foolishness about this very slick machine increases the joy way more than the magazine price.
I read it from cover to cover and even believe some of it.
"MacAddict is a poor brother to the old days of MacUser.", I used to sell and fix Macs since the original Mac 128, I have owned 14 Macs over 21 years so I have seen it all. Mac Addict is OK but only because our choices are so slim. Mac User was always the best and I couldn't bother renewing MacWorld after they got nasty with my late payment after I bought it for almost 20 years.
I quit buying MacAddict because of all the free disks. They were full of buggy freebies and Ii turned me off. To keep up with Macs, read the NY Times in the Circuits section and David Pogue's column, web site. Also. if you can afford the Wall St Journal, read Walt Mossberg for all Techy things. He gives a fair review and answers any questions he can, Mac Pc, Camera. The Wash Post on line has a good tech writer for Mac stuff. We reallt don't need a Magazine with the Web. Happy Mac-ing and order TIGER. I JUST GOT MY NEW IPOD PHOTO 60 gig and a 1gig Shuttle which I use every day in the gym. Buy Applecare and Apple will cover the (probably) 2 batteries. I have an original IPOD (10Gig in 01) and the battery still works and I abused it on many plane trips. It still runs and is my bedroom pod hooked up to my Bose Cd/Radio. yeah I love toys. Roger Taylor
"A very Good Mac Magazine", If you read some of the older reviews some make the comment that Mac Addict isn't what it used to be. I'm not sure what they're getting at with that. This magazine has been steadily improving over the years. Lots of reviews, and the included CD is a great tool, filled with free ware, share ware, and samples of commercial software that allow you to try the program before buying it. If your a Mac engineer it may not be enough for you, but for most of us this is a good source of info.
"Definitely subscribe if you own a Mac!", I have been subscribed for little over a year now (no discs on my magazines though - they must have phased this out). I look forward to the day my Mac Addict arrives as it is always full of great tips to make life easier. A must have for anyone who owns a Mac, this magazine contains useful tips, troubleshooting, guides to free downloads, and loads of tech support. I especially love the Q&A section, and find that this part is the most useful to my day to day computing needs. I have just renewed my subscription for another year!
"Cringeworthy", Where Macworld is bad, Addict is dreadful. It is dumbed down to the level of Teen Beat, and the "reviews" don't deserve the name. The extent to which it drools over Apple is embarassing, leaving no pretence of independence. Like its competitor, it exploits the crummy support that typifies the computer industry, so we get articles about the "secrets" of such and such product. A "secret" in the computer industry is a feature or defect that has not been properly documented by the manufacturer. This should be blasted, not applauded. But Addict is happy to exploit readers by selling them the information they should have gotten when they purchased the product.
