Others say..."The worst gaming magazine"As you can tell by the title, I'm not enamored of this magazine. I've been playing video games since the early 80s, and have read many, many gaming magazines. My reasons for this negative review of Gamepro follow in no particular order: 1.) Their numerical rating system stinks. 1-5 points is just not accurate enough. Most mags/web sites have a 1-10 system with decimals. Not Gamepro. 2.) The written part of the reviews are way too short, and often are written borderline incoherantly. It's as if they hired the proverbial 1,000 monkeys to type them out. 3.) Often times they cram two or three reviews on one page. Screen shots provided with reviews are often the size of a postage stamp. 4.) The number of ads in relation to content is distinctly high. Once when I was bored, I counted all the ads in one issue. Out of around 110 pages there were 60+ pages of ads. 5.) Their article layouts are confusing, and occasionally they print on colored backgrounds that closely match the text color. Forget about reading it if you're colorblind. 6.) Their gaming tips are either so obvious that a brain dead chimpanzee could figure them out, or plain don't work. I suspect that the ones that do are ripped off from various web sites. 7.) Gamepro costs the same as better gaming mags, such as EGM and Game Informer. So, in closing... if you want a good gaming magazine, just about any magazine other than Gamepro would be an improvement. Many great gaming magazines have come and gone, why a turd like Gamepro continues is a mystery to me. "Crap"Just from picking up this mag in the store, and reading their spin-off "Pocket Gaming", I have concluded that this magazine is pure rubbish, I wouldn't waste my money subscribing. "Great Magazine"An awesome mag which covers reviews, previews, codes, walkthroughs, news, letters from readers and helpfull info about games.great in many perspectives and quite cheap. EGM is better for reviews, previews, news and letters. "Great information....and affordable."One thing that I like about GamePro magazine is the un-bias reviews. They do not review a game such as Final Fantasy always with good reviews just because of the fan base. They are honest with their opinions and review each game singally for what it is and don't just call it "Good" just because the sequels or prequels are good. Some may argue that it is not as good of a magazine because it talks about all the systems even ones you may not have. Well, I find that to be inspiring to buy new systems and it also shows that GamePro doesn't say the game is good, just based on the system. I sometimes have problems with magazines such as Nintendo Power, Playstation, ect...not because they are bad magazines, but because their opinions seemed to be based on advertising. Of course Nintendo Power is going to say good things about a Nintendo game...that's what the magazine is about, and if Nintendo Power would say something bad about a Gamecube or GBA game, it definately would not be a good one to buy. With GamePro on the other hand, you get real opinions. It is a magazine for all systems. There are special sections for several types of games, RPG, sports, ect. They include Previews, Reviews, and a chart to show their ratings based on a 5 point review. The artwork and color inside is great and shows good pictures from the games. Information is interesting, updated, and the reviewers are very good writers. It's a truthfull magazine with great information, pictures, and definately affordable. I paid $19.95 for my first subscription and renewed it for $12.00, so that's a great deal!
"Good only if you own all the systems" Gamepro is a good source if you own a PC, GBA, Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2, but if you own only one or 2 of those, then you would be better off subscribing to a more focused magazine, like OPM or PSM (for PS2). It is very broad, which makes sense because it covers 5 systems. I only own PS2 and PC (I have a GBA but only use it on car trips or on a plane), so it doesn't do much for me.

What our customer's say!
"This was my first video game mag, so it's special to meh!", I like Gamepro. I actually miss how they used the silly faces for the ratings. I guess it was "immature", but "F" that! Seriously!
And now, it's half way filled with advertisements, advertisements and more advertisements. Not very appealing when you want information on your favorite games, and you have to skip through an advertisement every two pages, sometimes every other page!
I know they pay for GamePro to even "Be", but I still don't like the amount.
I like how they do the yearly "Presents to Get for X-Mas", and I've liked the Questions section, as well as the section that fills you in on glitches and such, as well as the section that gives you tips on how to fix things, game-related.
Also, the info. on what video game is selling the best towards the end, is also a nice edition.
The new ratings set up is good also. I just liked the silly pictures more.
And what happened to half of the GamePro staff?! It almost completely changed!!!!
It's not the best gaming magazine I've ever read. That's probably EGM Electronic Gaming Monthly, but I'm not reviewing that, because GamePro broke my gaming info...

4 stars.
"Craptacular!!!", I am utterly disappointed in the direction that Gamepro has taken over the past two years. I actually stopped my subscription for about 1 year, but came back to the 20 issues for $10 at their (10?) year anniversary. I forget. But the magazine is really bad.
One thing I laugh is, the retro corner. They have info about issues from 5 and 10 years before, and they always announce the number of pages from 10 years ago. I think the most recent issue, they said: 140 pages? Huh? I think my last issue was around 100. And don't try to tell me they've lost 40 pages in advertising.
Too bad on-line reviews and websites, are taking over the subscriptions of the hardcopy magazines. I'll stick with hardcopy until the end of my life. Or until the quality of these types of magazines gets so low, I can't stand it anymore. Or until my subscription runs out on this craptacular effort.
You guys were pretty good 5 years ago, but you've gone to pot these past two years! I'm talkin' to you Watchdawg!!!
You guys are suckin' lately!!!

"10 years ago, I'd have given it five stars.", There is absolutely no reason to buy this horrid excuse for a gaming magazine. Maybe it's because the brand-new games are downright bland and shallow compared to the simplicity and charm of 8 to 32-bit eras. Maybe it's because they constantly put stupid ads in it that have nothing to do with gaming at all (Nature's Cure, I'm looking in your direction!). Maybe it's because their new layout looks absolutely boring and sterile compared to the excellence of the mid-'90s layout. Maybe it's because they continue to slam certain games and series like the Sonic games where they say that Sonic 2 was the last great game. Maybe it's because their reviews aren't any interesting to read. Maybe it's because the staff tries too hard to inject humor and their writing is absolutely shallow. Maybe it's because they failed to realize they did so much better in the '90s. Maybe it's all of those things. Yeah, that's the one.
"Overrated Video Game Magazine", Stay away from this magazine. This magazine seems like it was made for beginning gamers. Gamepro gets reviews for their magazines so late it's ridiculous. Other magazines have their reviews way before theirs It makes you think they're living in the past, like two months back. And the time frame that the magazine hits newstands is horrible. But that's not the reason they get their reviews so late. Honestly, I don't know why. For their staff, they use cartoon characters. They don't have real pictures for their real faces. I don't know what they're trying to hide. Are they ashamed that they're nerdy gamers? They also need to get rid of the stupid cheats and walkthroughs that take up about a fourth of their whole magazine. Maybe they should come up with a differnet publication for that. The reviews numbering systmem is horrbile. They give their games scores of 1-5. That is definitely not enough options for reviews. They're probably trying to be unique and differeing themselves from other game publications and websites which mostly have 1-10 rating scores. And also, the games that they have on their cover are bad. They rarely have exclusive previews or reviews like Game Informer or Elecronic Gaming Monthly. They're staff is obessessed with DragonBall Z. Yeah, that kiddy anime show. Every DragonBall Z game that is coming out, they have a cover for. And the DragonBall Z games ending up being average crap anyway.
If you're saying to yourself,"man does this guy having anything positive to say about GP?" Hmm. let me think.. no. If I HAD to come up with two reasons that this magazine is good it would be 1)the layout of the magazine is better than it used to be. It used to have colorful and confusing back grounds that matched the colors of the game. Now it is made up of a clean white and black layout. 2) I don't have to look at this magazine again. I think that the fans of the magazine like it so much because it is the first gaming magazine they ever picked up. It was one of the first montly gaming magazines ever published, with over 200 issues so that is understandable. But, try other--better options of game magzines. Anything is bettter than this piece of crap. Like Game Informer, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Play, Game Now (which I don't think exists anymore, which is interesting because Game Pro deserves to be dead), Nintendo Power, Official Playstation Magazine,...
"Gamer's In Detail", Video game magazines have been all the rage in our lives. Yet there are just so many of them that tell different stories for different video game systems. That has been the case with one of the biggest-selling ones of all time, Gamepro. They truly have made it one the most provocative and well in-depth magazines with detail about what games are popular according to their writers, and what upcoming games and systems are all in the works. The magazine is quite well, but I honestly do wish they could try to publish more in the way of codes and helpful hints for several games for Gamecube and Game Boy Advance, when most of it primarily focuses in on Playstation 2 & Xbox. Yet, Gamepro really handles itself as a very deep gamer's magazine. Anybody who wants to be enjoy the field of video games, this magazine is worth reading.
Overall: B 1/2+

Read this reviews before You buy..."If I could give negative stars....", This magazine is just plain horrible. I have been receiving it for about 4 years now, and each year, Gamepro gets signifigantly worse. I subscribe to all major gaming mags (OPM, EGM, CGW) and this is the worst by far. Visuals and Durability- It's horrible. The new "redesign" is an eyesore and it makes the mag almost impossible to look at. To make it worse, Gamepro is printed on really cheap paper that is flimsy and rips easy. It feels like fax paper! Every month, Gamepro comes to me with at least 5 rips in the pages or cover. The screenshots of games look to be of the lowest resolution possible. And, the mag is over 50% ads!! Not even good ones- crappy ones for crappy games that no one has even heard of. Previews- Gives little information, and very poorly written. They fail to make the stories even remotely interesting or engaging. The other mags (OPM and EGM) have about twice as much info on games. The only preview I have found of any use in the past 2 years of Gamepro was about The Bard's Tale. Isn't 18 bucks a year expensive for 1 helpful preview? Reviews- Utterly useless. These are a joke. I have been burned numerous times by buying crappy games that Gamepro rates good. It seems that every damn game gets a 4 out of 5, whether that game is ATV Offroad Fury (good) or Mickey's Crapstravaganza (hmm let's think about that one). I think I could send them an empty box that says "Gamepro Sucks" all over it, and they would rate it a 4 out of 5. The lame names of the reviewers don't help much either. Dan Elektro? Four Eyed Dragon? D-Pad Destroyer? What kind of sad crap is that?!?!? Covers- Surprisingly, the cover art is generally good, probably to sucker people into buying a magazine that shouldn't even be used as a firestarter. Once you get past that pretty cover everything goes downhill. Fast. Why anyone would like this magazine is beyond me. I have repeatedly tried to cancel my subscription, only to be greeted the next month with an unwelcome present. I would rather the mailman put dog crap through my mail slot than this "magazine". There is one redeeming quality: If you really hate someone who plays a lot of games, you can give this to them as a present. Then you can watch them cry after they waste their money on some crap that Gamepro said was good. Otherwise, if you're looking at subscribing to a multiplatform gaming mag, get EGM. It's got good reviews, funny articles and sure as hell beats the crap out of this trash.
"PRETTY GOOD MAG", I think this is a great magazine although, the old rating system was alot better than the new one (that's why I gave it 4 stars). But otherwise it's a great magazine, (it would be cool if they put in PS2 demo's even though its a multiplatfor magazine). BUY IT, it's good.
"Pretty Good Magazine", I think this is a great magazine although, the old rating system was alot better than the new one (that's why I gave it 4 stars). But otherwise it's a great magazine, (it would be cool if they put in PS2 demo's even though its a multiplatfor magazine). BUY IT, it's good.
"Where is The Reviews?", Gamepro is a magazine that is not for adults. If you want to know about a game, Gamepro is not useful. The reviews are like a paragraph. It doesn't say anything about the game and is lacking details. Who would want to read a review is only 5 sentences are about it. If you want to get good solid reviews, check out EGM and PSM. Gamepro is just a waste of money, has no details and is NOT for adult gamers. More like it's for 4 year old gamers playing Early Child.
"Best Gaming Mag. Ever!!!", This is the best gaming magazine i have ever read in my life!!(i've thousands of gaming magazines too.)Very good details about the game too, very discriptive. But did you notice in the December 2003(it came out.)issue, starting at page 168 to page 181,thay repeated the same 14 pages twice!!! Anyway, this magazine is really auesome and you should definitly subscribe!!! sincerly, kenny
