"Just what I was looking for"
Growing up my husband and I played this game in school and we were wondering if it was still out there, and I found it for a GREAT deal on Amazon! It's exactly what I wanted, and even better now 13 years later. It was shipped very quickly and just as described. As a first time user to Amazon I am very pleased.

"My oxen drowned while I tried to ford the river."
I grew up dying from typhoid and watching my other fellow wagon mates dying from other various diseases. This was a childhood classic. But, the newer version is so different from what I remember. It's still fun, but I prefer the "old school" version of this game.

"Nothing like the original"
Frankly, this game was nothing like the original played on the Apple II. There are a lot of people who say they grew up playing The Oregon Trail, bought this for the nostalgia, and loved it, but I don't agree at all. Those people were either playing a different version or optimists.
The CD Rom I got came with no instructions so it was difficult to navigate the game. I didn't know how to get in and out of the general stores or what the point was of exploring the forts. I think some of the new features and games made it extremely tedious. I suppose a longer playing time is good and makes the game worth the money, but I just couldn't get over the disappointment of it not being enough like the original.

"My niece loves it."
I had to give the game to my niece, because it wouldn't load on my computer. The cover says it will work on XP, but it doesn't. I tried it on both my laptop and my desktop, which runs XP. But it does work on Win 98.

"Fun blast from the past"
I loved playing this years ago, and it was still really entertaining now. It works really smoothly on my powerbook!

"wont work", will not install on computer.Even went to the manufactures website to find out what to do and they cant help with that becouse product is to old they do not make or sell this edition any more.

"Oregon Trail 5th Edition PC game", The game is really fun! My fiance and I take turns trying to beat each other's high scores. This was my favorite game as a kid so my fiance bought it for me for Mother's Day. (We have a 2 yr old son) You learn a lot from this game and it's fun to put your friend's names on and pretend to go on adventures. Also you get to shoot animals and not feel guilty about it.

"why can't we talk to a real person", this game will not work and when you call the company you can't talk to a real person.and they sent me an email to tell me what to do but it did not work

"End of my search", I first played this game years ago and loved it. Lost my game and have been searching for a replacement ever since. I was very happy to find Oregon Trail, and even happier with the price. My game was delivered qucikly and in good shape. I recommend Amazon to anyone.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Oregon Trail", We received Oregon Trail within a few days of ordering it. My children love playing this computer game.

"Oregon Trail 5th Edition Win/Mac (Old Version)", My college student daughter wanted it for Christmas. She played an older version (3rd edition)when she was in elementary school and wanted to bring back old memories. She was thrilled and has really enjoyed playing with it. She said she had more fun playing with it than anything she did while home over the holidays. I am so glad I got it. It was an excellant price and I am ordering another one for a neighbor.

"Technical difficulties", If you have an Nvidia graphics card don't get this game. There is something about the drivers that doesn't allow it to play. I spent hours trying the tech support offered on the website and installing older drivers, as suggested by another website, neither of which worked. I popped it into my mom's Compaq computer and it works perfectly. It's a fun game if you aren't comparing it to games nowadays. Very nostalgic.

"Worth the money", We had the original version of this game, and it was one of my kids' favorites. We upgraded to get a copy that runs under Windows XP. My kids also love this version of the game. There are more options for play than in the original version of the game, and everything seems to work well. I feel it was well worth the purchase price.

"Fun for everyone involved", I was very happy with this game- it took the bets parts of the previous Oregon Trail incarnations and wove them together for a good overall product. I can appreciate a company which recognizes both the weaknesses and the strengths of their products and uses this information to get better. In this Oregon Trail you can once again chose how many you will travel with and name them (for some crazy reason this feature was eliminated in the 4th Oregon Trail edition), but you can also CHOOSE the times you stop to collect wild fruit or fish, instead of these circumstances just happening randomly (which does not make as much sense). To me, these were the biggest changes to previous games, but they were improvements.

Aside from the above changes, the basics of the game remain the same, and it will look familiar to those who have played other editions. A few things have been updated, particularly some aspects concerning Native Americans and some geography, but the good times still keep rolling.
