"You want a worthy adversary? I'll GIVE you a worthy adversary..."
Kyle Katarn was once a Jedi Knight. He once helped the fledgling New Republic in its strugle against the Empire. Until Drommund Kaas, when he confronted the darkness in himself, and gave in to it. So he gave up his lightsaber to Luke Skywalker, swearing never to touch the Force again. He went back to working as a New Republic mercenary alongside Jan Ors, the only other person in the galaxy who knew the location of the fabled Valley of the Jedi, and the incalculable power it contained. He might have lived the rest of his life that way, with only his blaster, his wits, and Jan, the woman he loved, to count on.

Until they took one mission that ended all that.

They met Desann, a powerful Dark Jedi, and his apprentice Tavion. They, along with Admiral Galak Fyyar, an Imperial scientist, are trying to find a way to artificially infuse the Force into living subjects, to mass-produce their own army of Dark Jedi. Needless to say, they succeed...and it's all Kyle's fault. So what's a former Jedi to do?

Simple. Take back your Force abilities, reclaim your lightsaber, and go hunting.

This game did a great job of improving on the combat and Force powers of the original JEDI KNIGHT. Your Force abilities are taken directly from the movies, with none of the showy powers you saw in the original. You end up with eight in all; four neutral, two light, and two dark, but they're selected for you automatically. You can't upgrade them as freely as you could before. The lightsaber combat is vastly improved; they used motion-capture to animate Kyle and his enemies, and it shows. Even the lightsabers themselves look better, like they were taken directly from the movies.

The enemies are just what you'd want in a STAR WARS game. They basically fall into three categories; Imperials, bounty hunters, and the Reborn. The Imperials range from stormtroopers (killing them NEVER gets old), officers, droids, and engineers. The bounty hunters are from four different races; Rodians, Grans, Trandoshans, and Weequay, and they're pretty much interchangable. But the Reborn...oh boy, are THEY a challenge.

The Reborn are the result of Admiral Fyyar's experiements in artificially stimulating midichlorian production. They're all Dark Jedi, and they're all insane from the process. You'll want to pay attention to what color they're wearing when you fight them; orange and blue aren't so bad, green is tougher, but red and black? Be ready for a FIGHT. And that's not even counting the Shadowtroopers...

The 'boss' enemies are nicely varied as well. Reelo Baruk, the criminal connection, is nothing. Admiral Fyyar, with his shielded power armor, is like a walking tank. Tavion and Desann are VERY crafty; those two are the toughest enemies in the game.

Fortunately, you won't be completely alone. Jan Ors fights alongside you briefly, as do Republic soldiers and fellow Jedi Knights. Raven Software even had the brilliant idea of bringing in Lando Calrissian (voiced by Billy Dee Williams HIMSELF!) and Luke Skywalker to back you up. In fact, fighting alongside Luke is one of the game's high points; the two of you are squaring off against both stormtroopers and Reborn in one area. My only complaint is that it was over WAY too soon.

The locales are just as eclectic as you'd expect from a STAR WARS game, or movie, for that matter. You go from an abandoned Imperial listening post, to a crystal mine under Imperial control, to Nar Shaddaa, Bespin, an asteroid base, an Imperial Star Destroyer, even Yavin 4, home of the Jedi Academy itself. And every location find new ways to challenge you, no matter what powers or weapons you have at the time.

But once again, it's the story that pulls you in more than anything else. The continuing story of what happens to the New Republic after the movies is compelling enough -- I think we all wonder what happened after RETURN OF THE JEDI -- but framing it around the events of Kyle Katarn's life puts YOU right there in the middle of it all. Kyle's a fascinating character, make no mistake -- kind of like a hybrid of Luke and Han Solo -- but YOU'RE the one directing the action. YOU'RE slugging it out with stormtroopers. YOU'RE slinging a lightsaber against Dark Jedi.

YOU'RE a Jedi Knight.

And that's the best selling point I can think of.

"The Force is with this Masterpiece!"
Graphically, this game is a work of art. The shiny surfaces, glowing lightsabers, and vibrant colors make this a winner.

As far as gameplay those, you can even forget the graphics! This gameplay is so good, you could play it with terrible graphics, and still have an aweseome time!

The score by John Williams is another highlight. The music enhances the tension, action, and drama of this game.

Overall, this is the best star wars game i have ever purchased or played.

"Still Playing After All These Years"
(...)

This was the 2nd game I purchased for my Macs, and it's the only one I still play. It really is that good. The story is original and well executed, the voice actors are excellent, and the gameplay is fun. The graphics may not be state of the art these days, but they are subtle and more believable when compared to many of today's games which rely overmuch on special lighting effects. Some of the puzzles are frustrating but once learned you find they are really quite easy. The jumping puzzles and chasms can result in deadly falls, but hey, who said the galaxy was a safe place? Hone your force jumping skills. And your other Force powers. You'll need them.
The cinematics are well done and really carry the story forward as they segue you into the next level. The John Williams score is used effectively. If you like being immersed in the Star Wars universe, this game is for you.
The game is based on the Quake 3 Arena engine, so it plays really smoothly on any new hardware. Even older iBooks like the G3 I had perform well enough to play Jedi Outcast. On my PowerBook, the game flies. The multiplayer game is good, with the standards Capture The Flag and other team play, but it really shines in Jedi Duel, where the fights are one on one, with the winner remaining to fight the next player on the server. This is pure Star Wars light saber dueling and it takes skill and finesse to be a good duelist (if one doesn't use cheats, that is).

I wish LucasArts would release more games like Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Jedi Academy was good, but was more like an expansion to Jedi Outcast. Jedi Academy did pick up at the end though, and the Dark Side ending leaves plenty of room for a new Jedi Knight game with Kyle Katarn hunting down his wayward apprentice.

"Force is defently with this game"
If you love watching Jedi battles then pick this one up its great however in the first few levels you dont get lightsabers you get them a bit later and Ill tell you this is one really long game good story you get to fight along side with lukeskywalker or Lando. Not to mention the force powers from lightning to lightsaber throw mindtrick push and more so you can think of multiple ways for taking out your enemys

The multiplayer is very fun tons of games and levels and gamemodes pick from tons of charecters and pick what color you want your lightsaber to be.Playing Capture the flag with lightsabers is alot of fun
So if you own a Computer,PS2,Gamecube,or an Xbox and you like lightsabers then order this game right now

"3 years later..."
...and three years later I buy the game.
Wow! Awesome! I can't believe it runs so well after the three years of its release! Everything looks and feels great on my XP. This is one of the only games I have purchased and and not had to return due to the CD being messed up or some corrupted file. So... I'm happy!

I thought no one would play the multi player anymore but there seem to always be games going on. Yep, this is a game I would suggest to any gamer.

What our customer's say!

"Master YaYa", Great multuiplayer game. I play with my grandkids in Indiana and my daughter in California, we have a blast. Server is so easy to setup, my 10 year old grandson did it on his own. The single player game is great too and challenging.

"Choke, turn, drop. No more stormtrooper!", That about sums up the fun of the game. You can do a lot with it, more so than other Star Wars games, or like genre games. Like the title says, my favorite thing to do is to choke the enemy, turn, and drop him from a high place, and there are plenty of those. Or you can just raise him 30 feet in the air on flat ground and drop him. Or use force lightning to zap a group. Or throw your lightsaber. Or hit speed boost, throw your lightsaber, run through a group of baddies and wait for the saber to catch up to you and take out all the baddies. Get the idea?

There are upteen ways to slash, jump, force pull weapons, push droids around, trick that idiot trooper, and be an all-around Imperial stomping machine. You don't start out with force powers, but you pick them up fairly quickly.

The bad side, if you don't like jumping around or spending a lot of time to figure out where the road is supposed to turn, you are going to become quite frustrated. Jumping puzzles over bottomless pits and finding cracks in the walls that lead to the next area are all too common. I spent half my time in the game on those two areas alone. There are walkthroughs out there that help, yet for some reason, I couldn't alt-tab my game. Not sure if that is user error or not, yet most other graphics-intensive games I play can.

Storyline is good, yet the cinema scenes are limited to ships and ok short videos. The interaction between the characters in these sequences are limited to the world of the game (i.e. no cinema, just polygons and sharp movements)

Overall, if you want a hack-and-slash game that has plenty of puzzles to figure out, this is the game for you.

"It's good if moded", The game is so bad lucasarts should of stop the game from being sold. But when you mod the game it the best game in the world. The game needed 2 stars for how fun it is and for its overall but when moded the game is fun . So don't get the game for gc,xb and ps2 version's just get it for pc because that's the only one that you can mod.

"A benchmark in the Star Wars line of games", You know what? I absolutely hate it when people say that this game was hard. I beat it on normal in one week! And this was when it first came out, when I was about twelve years old our around there maybe thirteen. But, anyway this game was so fun! I got it the week it came out and that Christmas vacation, me and my brothers were glued to the computer playing that game, or at least watching me play it. I have beaten that game five times now and it never gets old!

"This game is pretty pour", I guess the first thing i'll say is that I got Jedi Academy BEFORE I got this game. I was HUGELY dissaponted. I really liked Jedi Academy but this game is not that great. I have cheat codes so I can have all wepons and all amo and I can be undying. There are partes in this game that are INSAINLY tought. There are way to many puzzles - I don't mind puzzles but there are simply way to many. And some on them are insainly hard. I would recomend you to get Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy - way better the puzzles aren't insain and you get to choose what you look like and....well I could go on but i'll leave it there. If you aredy have Jedi Academy and you want another star wars game that is $20 then you sould get Battlefront thats anoter great game. Just don't get this game.

"Let's travel back in time...", ...to when Lucasarts was a good company. Today, Lucasarts is nothing but a greedy company that cares nothing about its customers, and I can't same I'm impressed with George Lucas these days either.

But anyway, when Jedi Outcast hit stores Lucasarts was the best gaming company in existance. They had a NICE CEO, unlike the one they have now. One who actually CARED about us gamers.

I'm sorry, I'm really ranting here.

In Jedi Outcast, the 2nd best game in history second only to KOTOR, you play an ex-Jedi named Kyle Katarn. The story takes place about 10 years or so after Return of the Jedi and Kyle Katarn (you) have given up your lightsaber and Force powers in fear of falling to the Dark Side. But the Republic needs you, so you must train to become a Jedi again and face your destiny.

There are many interesting and cool characters in the game, like the fat Rodian garbage collector Reelo Baruk and your companion Jan Ors. Not to mention the master of the Sith Desann and his apprentice Tavion.

Also, the multiplayer mode is FANTASTIC!!! The only problem is, no one is ever playing. I play by myself with AI bots and its still really fun!!! You can be stormtroopers with lightsabers!!!

The single player is amazing, too. The storyline is somewhat confusing but interesting all the same. The graphics are pretty impressive for a 2002 game and the combat system is nicely done. I love slashing the arms of of stormtroopers. What fun.

Yes, its true you only use a blue single-bladed lightsaber in the game. BUT NEVER FEAR. I have discovered a cheat to change your blade color:

First, hold SHIFT and hit ` located to the left of the 1 key. This will bring up the console. Type "devmapall" (no quotes) and hit enter. Next type "sabercolor x" where X is what color your saber can be. Here are the colors: orange, yellow, red, blue, green, and purple.

Enjoy that one!

While cheating, always do "devmapall" first. It enables the cheats.

My all-time favorite cheat is "g_saberrealisticcombat 3" I won't tell you what it does. Find out for yourself by killing an enemy. But its funny. (Don't worry it doesn't crash the game I wouldn't do that to you)

I first discovered the wonders of Outcast when I played it at my cousins house. We sat there for hours having fun and screwing with the cheats.

And that's also really cool: cheating does not mess up the game in any way, shape, or form unlike many other games. In other games, you cheat, it has a price. Usually an expensive one. In Outcast, you cheat, its FREE!!!

There is one problem I have with this game and that is the glitches. There aren't many that affect gameplay but sometimes the walls are flashing and it gets sorta annoying. My cousin who has beaten the game at least 10 times has discovered many glitches, including a room where Tavion is standing and you can walk through her, a room filled with lights contained three floating AT-STs, and even a room with mountains painted on the ceiling (I actually found the last one). But its kind of fun, discovering these weird rooms. There are quite a lot of them!

Wow, just writing this makes me want to play the game! I'm gonna go play it!

I remember when Outcast was $49.99. Now, the price has gone down $40.00!! NOWS YOUR CHANCE!!! BUY THIS GAME!!!

"THE BEST STAR WARS COMBAT GAME EVER!!!", I LOVE THIS GAME TOO MUCH!!! BUT WHICH IS BETTER=OUTCAST OR ACADEMY!!!!!

"Mac users can be Jedi!", Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is one of the first games I bought for my Mac. Gameplay is challenging and fun! The single player storyline is entertaining and pulls you into the game and keeps you there. After a slow start with no Force Powers or light saber, you really will begin to feel like a Jedi Knight. Kyle Katarn's character is one of the best characters I've seen in any game, and could easily be a film character in a Star Wars movie. Some of the most memorable levels for me are fighting as a Jedi alongside Jedi Master Luke Skywalker against a half dozen or so Reborn Dark Jedi, fighting criminals in Nar Shadaa where you really must make use of your arsenal of cool weapons, and the two key battles against Tavion and Desann. I have other, newer games, but Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is the game I keep coming back to play.

The multiplayer matches are fairly standard Quake 3 Arena fare, with one exception, the one-on-one Lightsaber Duel. You may think you're a Jedi Knight after dispatching hundereds of storm troopers and Dark Jedi in the single player game, but the real creative battles happen in Lightsaber Duels against real people online. Just please remember to fight with honor and bow before combat.

Jedi Outcast has reasonable system requirements will play well on any modern G4 or G5 Mac. It plays great on my PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz.

"Lightsabers, now that's different!", I am by no means a hardcore gamer, but for any fan of shooters, this is a great one, and it gives you a chance to get away from just shooting a bunch of goons (in this case, stormtroopers). Instead you can run around with a lightsaber and hack everything up ( I did this rather gleefully). For a game as old as this one is, it looks good, I'm not sure how it compares to a game using an unmodified Quake III engine but it looks almost as good as Star Trek: Elite Force 2, which is undoubtedly the best Quake game out there.

"Still the best Star Wars game out there", To date, I've played almost all of the Star Wars games released- starting way, way back at the black & white DOS game where your primary (and only) goal is to center your crosshairs on a weaving TIE fighter and blow it up with a push of the fire button. I'm a former flight sim fanatic (not so much now, due to the sad state of the genre), a current RPG fanatic, and I absolutely detest FPS games. This is largely due to the fact I get splattered whenever I join a deathmatch, but is also because these games generally lack even a remote semblance of a storyline and characterization.

Having said that, and keeping in mind that I've also played the excellent X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X vs. TIE, X-Wing Alliance, Knights of the Old Republic, &c (I could go on for quite a while with this) one must add extra weight to the fact that I really like Jedi Outcast. And yes, I am aware that it's a shooter. So the big question, of course, is why?

First and foremost, this FPS actually has a plot and characters. Not only that, but it has GOOD plot and characters- so much so that they have actually been inducted into Star Wars canon.* This is an honor no other Star Wars game has yet been able to claim. In fact, the storyline is so good that you will hardly notice that you're not really seeing any new kinds of enemies (stormtroopers and other Imperial slime are still the general fare).

The sound and look is superbly done. Voice acting is top notch, and instead of having full motion video cutscenes with horrible dubbing (as in the first Jedi Knight) they've used the game engine to fill in the blanks. And yes, it actually looks quite good- even compared to current games. Great attention to detail is a key factor in the presentation- when you walk into a cantina, you'll hear the familiar music from the Mos Eisley Cantina in Episode IV. The locations are varied and magnificent, with some taken from the movies (e.g. Cloud City on Bespin) and others from the expanded universe (e.g. Nar Shaddaa).

Now, though I'm a lousy FPS player, I still know enough to say that the weapons are very cool. There's the standard rocket launcher, sniper rifle, close-range grease gun, and default pistol. All have very unique looks and effects, and strengths and weaknesses. Most have an alternate fire mode, which can add interesting functionality (e.g. laser tripwires on mines).

And then, of course, we have the lightsaber and the Force. I cannot overstate how cool these are, and it's impossible to really describe it here. All I can say is that you've really got to play it, and that if you get good with both, two things will happen: you won't use your guns anymore, and you'll really feel like a Jedi master.

The level design is excellent, with puzzles that make you feel smart when you figure them out, but also don't take a total genius to solve. As with the other Jedi Knight, there are secret areas that hold extra power-ups that can seriously aid in your cause. There's also many interesting objectives that require unique interaction with the environment. For example, you'll at one point have the chance to commandeer an AT-ST and run amok through the jungles of Yavin 4, blowing up stormtroopers as you go. How cool is that?

Though I don't use multiplayer mode often (yes, I like this game, but I still get wasted in deathmatches) I have seen enough of it to say that it's comparable to any other FPS out there. There's no vehicles in multiplay, but who needs those when you have the Force? You can challenge others to one-on-one saber duels, play Star Wars-imbued variants of familiar games like capture the flag, and snipe honorlessly at passing Jedi from a balcony.

Given its long, excellent campaign and flawless presentation, Jedi Outcast comes with the highest recommendation. Even if you're not a Star Wars fan, its compelling story and great arsenal of weapons will appeal to the FPS fanatic. Jedi Outcast is also one heck of a deal now, and still looks great despite its age. Go, and may the Force be with you!

*Specifically, Kyle Katarn is universally recognized as the guy who stole the plans for the first Death Star.
