"Pros & Cons & Loss"
Yes, I will admit it, this is a good game. I played it for eight months and eventually lost interest.

Reasons for goin' frigid?
1) I remember one of the first times I was playing this guy shouted - or whatever the exact term is, I can't remember - over the entire area that he had just leveled to 60 and was feeling very depressed. The reason is that when you invest time and energy into something something virtual that energy can't be used for something that's real. It's like preteen girls wasting their time on infatuation because it's the closest they are to true love. Except --- Most people have the option of leaving EQ and actually living their own lives.

2) I know a guy who was kicked out of college for never going to class and using the T1 line for EQ. He is now living in Texas and has a job solely to support his addiction.

3) Not impressed with the artwork/graphics/extreme polygons. (Although the textures were great)

4) I don't want to live there.

5) Neverwinter Nights. Pure friggin' ecstasy.

"A NEW PLAYER..."
Since I've just started playing Everquest, I'm not really qualified to give the game a proper rating. But there are some important things that new players need to know about EQ. First of all, if you buy Trilogy and the Luclin expansion (which brings the graphics up to an acceptable level) there is NO TUTORIAL placed on your desktop as advertised in the instruction manual, because the Tutorial isn't compatible with Luclin. This means that you'll arrive in Norrath bombarded with menus and information and fading colors and screens with players busily running this way and that way ignoring you and you'll feel like Tarzan dumped in the middle of Manhattan during rush hour - overwhelming to say the least. Anyway, I shouted to the community that I needed help and luckily a Good Samaritan was around to get me started.
Well, why did I give the game 4 stars? Because it is a truly amazing game. I'm having so much fun with it, I can't wait to finish this review and dive in again. And yes, they are all right, it EATS your time. If you don't like fantasy or RPGs or you have three jobs or a ton of responsibilites, maybe you should stay away. But if you want to visit a highly technicial but living and breathing world right on your desktop, buy it right now!

"EQ"
I don't know if I could explain this game in under 1000 words... Over hundreds of patches, Sony and Verant have perfected the system in this game (though casters will always be overpowerful). For 3 years I played a Monk in this game of the reptilian race called the iksar. They regenerate faster than other races and start the game with the skill of 100 in swimming. For skills in EQ, you can pretty much do anything: fish, pottery, blacksmith, brewing and even jewelry. You are called a master when the skill reaches 100, though you can max it out at 250. My monk was a tailorer/brewer (nasty combonation i know.)

As for how big the world is, i played for 3 years and explored 2 full continents and barely touched on the other 3 and then Luclin came out and added an entire new world which you could teleport to. In my mind you will never go to every place in this game. Even if you had enough time, there are factions you have to gain before most city guards will let you in. The reptilians were hated in almost every city so they pretty much stuck to their own continent until mid-level. You typically have to kill 1000 enemies of a city for them to let you in, so I went out and slaughtered little orc encampments everywhere. It was easy because they are about lvl 8 and I was level 44 so 4 hits and a spin kick later, I had human faction.

If this was confusing, this is barely touching on EQ, but you'll get it all down within a week and then it gets all the more fun. As for some advice to start playin, make a caster as your first character, it makes everything go faster. I was the only true fighter where I live and I had 3 caster friends that were the same level as me, but had over 10 times as much money as I did and that is no exagerration.

About the other expansions, you would only really need the EQ trilogy and the Shadows of Luclin Expansion. The Planes of Power Pack doesn't really do anything BIG for you until you hit upper level.

And make sure you have something to do while waitin for boats... They go pretty slow and you generally can wait up to 15 minutes for the boat to arrive and most trips take 10-12 minutes and can pass through 2 different loading zones on the way so make sure you get off at the right one. First day I played I made that mistake and got off on an island with nothing but undead and they all were 20 levels above me... didn't go to well.

"I see why this is so popular"
I have played the majority of these online MMORGS. Most become repetitous and boring after a couple of weeks. Everquest Trilogy has yet to become this. It's a fantasy D&D setting, so you must enjoy that, but it is massive and just to much fun.

On a bad note the graphics are about 3-4 years behind, but the game play is great. I have played for about a month, and have only ventured into about 4 zones. There are 100's of zones and different parts of Everquest that I can not wait to see. For now Everquest is still the king, I see why so many companies want to break into this market.

"If You Need to Know...."
If you need to know whether you would enjoy EverQuest, this is the purchase for you to start off with. You will get a good over-view of the game, the feel, the requirements (both time and expense-wise), and the cost is reasonable (comparatively speaking with other or past EverQuest costs). And the first month of the montly fee is free. But the graphics are just NOT up to today's standards. If you like the game, your next choice is to pay out the same amount of money for the "Luclin" expansion to get your graphics to something tolerable. Then the prices just go up from there. If you can play and enjoy the game without becoming an ADDICT, then I would say go for it. If you already know you want to play EverQuest, to the possible exclusion of everything else, then look for the higher end of packages and expansions currently available.

"Amazing game", I created this account because everyone is like this game suks yada yada yada so i was like the hell. my dad had 2 unsubscribe for a couple months because it is a bit expensive and are conversations at supper and all that other talking was sooo boring because we were like i dinged today (dinging means gaining a level) We were so addicted to get it and some guy said its inposible 2 gain levels thats probly because he wwas only fighting monsters that had a green then (click on the monster to see what it is or right click or even /con) I would so recomend buying this game.

"Oh gosh, were back to gay stuff.", This game is really annoying and can remind you of not the cool fantasy with adventure, but the little pink fairy magic that you see in the forest. Gosh, why do people like this game so much?

Im not even giving a review, because If you get it, youll cancel the subscription the next month like I did. Look at screenshots and itll tell you.

The pictures lie, its a trick, dont listen to them! If you want adventure like that, youll have to be playing till your an old man. Get Final fantasy XI, or Dark age of camelot or something.

"Not that worth it :<", Yeah, this game is fun. Sure its fun when you start out. You think its a whole new world ahead of you...but its not. I cancelled the subscription to this game after about a month. You can have up to 8 characters, and they can be any class and race you wish. There are ogres, humans, elves, etc. And their classes are things like wizards, warriors, rogues, and that. It will really remind you of mythology because of their spells and stuff.

Its what people always do, they train and gain a few levels and get some cash from their enemy. Then they go buy some new weapons/armour/potions. They train till a certain level so they know they will be good enough to go out far through the everquest world. Sure, they are strong enough but they expected more. Tons of cool abilities and/or spells and items that makes it look cool like you see on trailers. But they dont get it. They train and train and accomplish nothing just like some other people are saying. Thats why I got rid of it.

If you want a good fun, action/adventure online RPG that is way more fun, then I'd suggest // Dark Age of Camelot \\ I have that game and it is what I expected. Its what I call *fun* ._.

"Not what I thought it would be :-(", READ THIS REVIEW IT IS VERY HELPFUL

My friend got this game and he was saying stuff "you gotta get it, its so cool" I was so exited to get EQ trilogy. Finally I saved up enough money to pay for it for a few months. By the way thats a badthing, you have to pay $13 a monthly fee to play. Finally I started to play it and that weeks I played it every day. day 1, awesome.. day 2, awesome.. day 3, awesome, day 4 5 and 6, awesome... day 7, SUCKED! after a few days of playing it, not only it gets old, but you learn your way around the game and figure out that its really dissapointing. The graphics are pretty good. but thats about the only good part. its impossible to gain levels, it takes so long. After 5 days of gameplay, 3 hours each of nothing but fighting, training, fighting, training I was level 4. I didnt take one break, not a lunch break, NOTHING. Thats how hard it is. I didnt die once either. It is hard to find your way around. the 7th day before I got rid of it, it took me an hour to find the magic shop where you buy new spells to use. it is hard to use some spells, like hide. it never works. not many people are friendly. I only joined a group 1 time and that was with a friend my friend who I knew in real life. Even in the daytime, it seems kind of like it is still dark. It just barely lightens up. It is still about the same. You need a torch which doesnt help much. you can turn up your gamma and it will be easy to see but it will be like that the whole time even at night so it takes away the fun. It takes forever to get enough money to buy stuff unless you do a trade skill which is hard. It is nothing like the commercials, they say you go on challenging quests, fight dragons and other monsters, go on an adventure of a lifetime! YOUR KIDDING RIGHT? For crying out loud You have to stay in the same town until you are like level 20 which takes about a year, if youll leave in half a minute some monster will kill you. I can go on and on but I am getting tired.

SO......DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IT IS HORRIBLE!!!!! WAIST OF MONEY!!!!!!! WAIST OF TIME!!!!!!

"Dont buy it!", I warn you. If you get addicted easily do not buy this game. I played for over a year and I was never happy with the game but I kept playing? Why you ask? well you work so hard to get better, but once you get better you feel like you've accomplished nothing, so you keep working hard to get better but you keep getting no where. This game is terribly addicting, you'll find yourself playing for hours and hours every day. You'll probly get on right when you get off of work and wont get off unless you absolutely have to, its that bad. I've heard of people killing themselves because they somehow lose all their equipment. They even have addiction groups to join (think AA but for EQ) to try and stop playing. How sad is that? I knew this game was consuming my life so I deleted my Characters, my account and I havent ever played since. Save yourself the trouble, enjor your life (your own, not your characters) and dont get this game.

"Everquest, A Land Of Opportunity", This game is literally the best. With even just these three editions (The Original and 2 Expansions), it is awesome. Pick from a set of classes, level up your characters, complete quests, join guilds... Almost unlimited what can be done in the game. Spells are awesome. The monsters are sweet. In short- this is truly the best game and will continue to be the best game for quite a long time, even AFTER Everquest 2 comes out.

Note- $... fee/month for game time is required, but DEFINITELY worth it.

"cant play it", if you buy this game used be sur eyou find out if the CD key can be used. When I tried to play the game it told me the cd key was in use, no other options available. watch out.

"Best game ever", Gotta get this awesome onliner it's a classic! Tons of fun!I hardly sleep anymore!

"key", The merchandise was fine but the cd key is in use and game isn't playable without a cd key and noone is responding to any of the emails sent on what we could do to resolve the issue.

"a very poorly maintained MMORPG", I played EQ for over 2 years, and I have to say that at first, it was like totally awesome. I bought EverQuest thinking that it would be a high fantasy role-playing game, with the unique experience of living an virtual life in a virtual fantasy world, so to speak.

However, EverQuest just doesn't provide the traditional RPG features that made the RPG genre so great. The game just doesn't live up to its claims or even its name. EQ really should not be in the RPG category, because the developers who make the game really have no respect for the genre at all. This game is all about hack and slash action. It's been dubbed "Quake with Swords", and "the worst MMORPG ever made" by many real RPG enthusiasts. The beginning of the game starts out ok. There are 65 levels (if you get all 4 (soon to be 5) expansion packs...hope you got a big fat wallet). The game just rocks for the first 30 levels or so. But after that it's all downhill. The main focus of EverQuest is on the level 60-65 range.

pretty much when you log on most of the time you just twiddle your thumbs until you can band 30 people together to kill something for a single piece of lewt. It's a commitment that will cost you maybe 7 hours a night, literally (if you don't devote those hours you will probably not get anywhere in the game...) it's very political - it's not just a freeform "adventurers getting together and killing" kind of thing. You have to join a guild, and most guilds of the right level range require you to be at the raid if you are online. Some people enjoy it, but they are usually people who enjoy military style ethics, which is VERY much what it's like. Many people feel like it's just like having a job though. Playing the game is more of a chore than about having fun.

There is no "high fantasy" or "roleplay" in EQ - you make a character, kill any NPC or PC you can find, and pay 13$ a month. It's as dry as it sounds. I'm not like a hardcore roleplayer or anything, I like action too... But even killing stuff in EQ is no fun. You're so strictly dependent on others in this game that essentially if not enough people are online to kill anything, you either can't play, or you just sit in a town twiddling your thumbs waiting for people to log on so you can actually do anything. Some classes are more important than others, unfortunately, so you may just gain 65 levels only to find out that on raids you do nothing but hit 'autoattack' every 5 minutes for 7 hours... Seriously! I'm NOT exaggerating LOL

If you like having to commit several hours of your time everytime you log on, waiting for enough people to show up so you can kill something, hours upon hours of mind numbing repetition, and being STRICTLY DEPENDENT (I can't emphasize this enough)on other players, then maybe you could find enjoyment in EQ. However, if you're looking for an immersive, high fantasy, well-designed, well-managed game, you're better off going with some of the newer MMORPGs. Mix mind numbing boredom and monotony with the worst customer service in the history of mankind, and I wonder why people even play this game anymore. Some just have a higher tolerance for incompetence than me I guess.

The developers of this game clearly don't have a passion for games - they exploit their players for money too much for me to believe otherwise. EQ2 will be released late this year or early next year sometime, but to be honest, with SOE/Verant's track record, I have no plans on buying it. It'll have great graphics and technology cuz that's all the devs seem to care about (and the sys reqs will make you believe it with a vengance...keep in mind that once your character is high enough in lvl, most of the time you're playing you have to be with about 30 other players...and neither will an ATI Radeon 9700, DSL, nor 8x AGP be able to save you). But the gameplay is going to be headache spawning dysfunction, and the customer service 10x's worse (worst case scenario: had a friend lose all of his hard earned equipment to a game bug, his EQ life's work, because of no response from customer service (their logs expire after 7 days)...with some items in the game taking months to over a year to get, losing them permanently is NO JOKE). The game will change a lot over time through weekly/monthly patches. There's a strict Verant vs. Player relationship, and you WILL learn to hate it. I mean the Gamemaster spell for summoning players in EverQuest is called "Call of the Zero". How weak, let alone insulting, is that? THis is why I have high skepticism about EQ2 and other MMORPGs run by SOE/Verant.

There's many other MMORPGs out there. Spare yourself the headache and get one made by a company with a real passion for games.
