"jake's trains", My mom purchased this game for me. We got online and checked out other train simulator games. When we read the reviews for the games we looked at, they refered this game as the best. I really, really love it. You can pick the train, the track, the season, the weather conditions and the cars. The game is very good because you drive the train, control the speed and the brakes. It also simulates the scenes in the engine and out of the engine, all the way to the caboose. I also like it when it simulates a crash when you make an error. You can observe it in the cab and out of the cab. Very great game worth buying.

"MS Train Simulator", No one else has mentioned the enormous amount of fun one can have with this (or any other rail simulation for that matter)by simply exploring at your own pace all the little highways and byways of this new and fascinating track world.
Select an engine with which you feel the most comfortable and then get off the main track and enjoy a gentle run along the back "lanes" of the different countryside areas. In some cases you may only go a few hundred yards while in others you can travel for miles just idling away as you see fit.
For long journeys I use a "Class 50" on its own while for the really little known places something like the "Nene Valley NV8" really fits the bill.
Have fun - that's what these games are for!!

"Train Simulator", The software presents a realistic feeling of driving a train. The secenery is good. Train options are somewhat limited although the entire range of trains(Electric,Diesel and Steam) are available. Tutorials and training guides are excellent. This is a good starter software and in discussing other software available, is preferred.

"Train Game", If you or anyone you know is a fan of trains-either watching them, photographing them, video taping them or riding on them, then this video simulator is for you. You can either watch the train that you are controlling from the sidelines or be in the cab of the train handling the controls of it. There are several different trains in this simulation along with several different weathers conditions to work with. This simulator is fantastic.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"What simulator?", I installed the game, only to have it crash everytime it got past the "loading" screen. My drivers are up to date on supported video and sound cards. I also disabled all programs running in the background and got the same result.

So I uninstalled the program and attempted to reinstall it. That was a mistake - about one minute into the install process, I got a BSOD. Everytime I've tried to reinstall, BSOD.

What simulator? I can't even install the program now to find out how good or bad it is! My real mistake was purchasing this program. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

"Buggy software", I purchased this game in eager anticipation of the beautiful sites I would be passing by on my way to exotic destinations around the world. Didn't happen. I have tried many of the different scenarios and the game always crashes after about 5 or 10 minutes of playing. I've tried reinstalling the game several times to no avail.

I am disappointed because I paid around $30 and I feel like I wasted my money. I am also surprised Microsoft released such a crappy, buggy product. I am not at all accustomed to Microsoft softwares crashing on a regular basis. Microsoft is after all, a software company.

I will say this, for the few minutes that I am able to get the train up and running it is fun looking at the surrounding landscape.

"Mostly just crashes, Software crashes that is.", Being a rail fan, I was happy to see a simulator for trains. I was hesitant because it was from Microsoft. My reluctance was well founded. The game is well meaning, but it is so riddled with bugs that it is virtually unplayable.

When the game does not out right crash or freeze it is plagued by serious simulation errors. Incorrect parameters in the physics setting of most of the rolling stock and track cause endless, random derailments and broken couplers.

If you visit the fan support sites you will find countless threads about these problems. Some of these bugs can be fixed by editing the simulation files ... long winded hand editing of hundreds of files required to fix the careless QC of the developers is not fun. These fixes also take away some of the realism. Because of the bugs you have to enter impossibly high breaking forces for couplers to keep them from randomly falling apart.

If you manage to survive all those bugs you will find many of the activities are so poorly designed that they can't be completed. The train orders may tell you to go west when the destination is east.

The activities are supposedly editable, but the tools included for editing the activities (routes, cars) are so incredibly unstable that I can't imagine the original designers actually releasing them, much less using them.

This game was a real disappointment. I had hoped for a realistic simulation. It could have been that, but the quality is just too bad. The only reason I give this game 3 stars and not one is because I love trains. Were it not for that it would be a 1 star because of the awful playability.

"Train Simulator", Train Simulator is a well-written game, but there are some things that could be better. On the plus side, it is a fairly accurate representation of what driving a train would be like. It has 3 different locomotives to drive: steam, diesel and electric. It is interesting to compare the 3 types. Unfortunately, there is a learning curve in the beginning (to be expected in a simulation game) which may make the game not as much fun at first.

I was disappointed in several things, though. There is no representation of an American steam engine, which I was looking forward to. There is an Amtrak train, which doesn't represent the great era of railroading in America. There are several routes in America, several in Europe and some Japanese routes. I would like to see more routes in America, which at the height of railroading, were all over the U.S, going to all major cities and many, many smaller ones.

The other thing that was a disappointment was that you have a trade-off between scenery and the train running at a good speed. The scenery is nice and somewhat authentic, but, if you choose to be a passenger and the scenery is what you want from your ride, the train runs very slow.

There are multiple views which is very nice. The sounds are authentic and you can put in different weather conditions also. There is a manual you can print out which should be printed before playing the game or any scenarios.

Altogether, Train Simulator is a pretty nice game, with a learning curve in the beginning and a few things left out (in my opninion). But I'm enjoying it anyway.

"well not very bad", yeah its not a bad game,but it doesn't thrill ur spine either.u ahve to maintain a schedule and after sometime it gets quite monotonous and boring.
