"Best 'SIM' game ever" This is the best game they have made. once you get pass to graphics (which were good for the time) and get into the game you can lose hours building. add in the urban renewal kit & it all add up to a perfect formula. it's a shame i lost my copy cos when my computer crashed i lost everything. i'd give my right arm to get it all back.
"Brings back memories..." Among my many childhood memories, one of my most cherished ones was going to my aunts house to play on her computer (the only one I have seen at the time besides my other aunts and uncles) Sim City 2000. I loved the game and we'd spend hours playing it. 7-8 years later and 20 years old, I still appreciate the game and remember those days at my aunts house. Soon we got a computer and I got Sim City 2000 and it wore of it's affect because I finally got a computer and the game and I don't remember much palying the game after I got it. But like I said, I remember playing it my aunts house and I cherished those now as an adult as I play this game that introduced me to computers and video games.
Being such a landmark in computer gaming and as many other people share fond memories with the game as do I, earns this game classic status. Game sof today being shallow and repetative can't hardly compare to the classics that helped pioneered what would become a boom indsutry.
"Sim City 2000" This Game is GREAT!.U can Tottally be in control of Your cities. I reccomend it highly!
"My Review" Its a pretty cool game, only that i cant seem to get the houses and industrial areas and the commercial areas to get built.Otherwise, i like it.
"Irritating Game" I see some people love this game. I on the other hand, dislike it very much. Mostly because in order to make your city happy, you need money to make the city better. But you run out of money to soon and try to make some adjustments in the taxes and everything, which makes the city unhappy. And while your trying to do all that, the roads keep getting messed up and needing repairs, you have to add more police stations to keep the crime at bay, ect. Plus, if your playing with the crisis', you'll have aliens burning your hard work down, earthquakes, ect. It's just not worth the time. Now if you love a tough challenge and have nothing else you can think of to do, then go right ahead and get it. Otherwise, don't waste your time or money. This is unlike the regular Sims game, which is the best PC game ever. I really can't wait for The Sims 2! Save your money for that one! It will be so much better than the first!

"Sim City 2000 - Special Edition - Retail Box", Sim City 2000 - Special Edition - Retail Box
The ultimate city simulator. You design, build, and customize any city you can imagine, and Sim City 2000 SE will bring it and its resident Sims to life. Includes the Urban Renewal Kit and Scenarios Vol. 1--all on one CD-ROM.
This is the most popular sim of all time, cranked up to a high-tech gloss and packaged with all the popular expansion sets. The original SimCity gave players the opportunity to create and oversee the growth of a living city as well as all its problems: crime, pollution, zoning demands, power outages, traffic foul-ups, and the occasional tornado, nuclear meltdown, or wandering monster from the sea. Less a game in the usual sense of the word than a sort of electronic ant farm, SimCity let players see how they fared as mayor, architect and town council. Now SimCity 2000 adds adjustable topography to the fun, using a terrain editor which can create mountains, valleys, ravines, etc. (The new types of terrain also permit the construction of hydroelectric dams and water towers.) Necessitated by this new addition is a new viewing engine, which rotates the player's municipality in 90 degree increments, so that new mountaintop university doesn't block your view of the burgeoning slum down below. As the town progresses through the decades, the sheer size and technological sophistication of your creations become more and more outlandish, and the resultant metropolis ends up looking like something out of Blade Runner. It can take quite a while to become familiar with Maxis' Sim series, and even longer to actually succeed at long-term city goals. Once you get beyond the learning curve, however, the cycle of planning, construction and urban renewal leads to a rewarding creation. And, as always, hard-won cities from earlier versions of the game can be imported for alteration and experimentation.

"happy to find this one again!", Wow, I played this way back when it first came out and loved it to pieces. Upgraded my computer, my disc vanished and I mourned. Then today I was just cruising around idly punching in search features and found it again, SO HAPPY!
For all those who are saying how terrible this game is, how it is boring and don't buy it, well, all I can is foo on you. Sure it doesn't have 3D graphics, but I tried SC3k and it was just awful compared to this one. As someone posted earlier, it felt cartoonish and kind of clunky compared to this version.
"A True Classic", SimCity 2000 has features that the other SimCity titles do not.
Sure, the graphics will be forever dated and the title is old, but it is still a classic and worthy of a purchase today. (I saw one on sale in the Wal-Mart bargain bin for $10.)
The reasons it is valuable today for SimCity fans today is twofold.
First, the unique features the other SimCity titles don't have. There is one archetecture type called the Arcology, and there are four types of buildings, each with its own pros and cons. The Arcologies are basically massive population density centers (that only take up a 4x4 tilespace) that can hold between 20,000 and 65,000 residents in them.
When the time period and city size requirements have been met, these expensive buildings obviously will shoot your city's population up dramatically. Of course, the City Ordinance levying an Income Tax males sense here to bring in more dough, and you definitely need to provide utilities and jobs to these new, squinched residents.
Another unique SimCity 2000 feature is the budget specialization you can perform: tax rates for individual industries (considering market supply and demand) and ordinances.
The second reason why SimCity 2000 is a valuable video game way up to now (Year 2007) is its convenience. The price tag and game play requirements are now universally accepted by everyone. Also, the SCURK (SimCity Urban Renewal Kit) allows for the customization of your city's landscape and buildings, and often times is as addictive as the game itself.
Sure, SimCity 2000 doesn't hold a candle to SimCity 3000 Unlimited or SimCity 4, but it will be a welcome edition to any Sim fan until the end of time. (Like the song "My Girl" by the Temptations - it will FOREVER be a good song for any generation.)
"best game ever", i love this game i remeber when i was a teen. It was the hot game at my school. I loved this game. Now i am getting it for my little boy
"Addictive", Ah, SimCity 2000 ... the SimCity of my youth. This was one of my greatest procrastination techniques in high school. I distinctly recall playing it when I should have been working on papers and college applications. This game gives the player a great degree of control - landscaping, zoning, building. It does not focus on individual Sims, as the later versions do, but its less complicated nature is refreshing. It works well on Windows XP; I installed it last year, and now all my (adult) friends want to play too!
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy..."Extremely dated but great vintage value!", I still come back to this game from time to time considering the immensely complex scope of the newest SC 4 game released recently. I have such great memories of this game when I got in during Christmas of 1998 and played it for a long time afterwards and for most of that time, it was the most state of the art computer game that was ever created at least at that point in time. In this game, you zone out the tiles of land for industial, commercial and residential development and manage your city's progress from a small unincorporated village into a thriving metropolis or town if you don't want it big. The game is incredibly simple compared to the newest reincarnation of the game saga. This game is extremely dated today but tack in 1994 through late 1998, this game to me was the 'game of the future;! The graphics are quite low on detail and almost look silly by todays standards. The water pumps for example look more like pacifiers than real water pumps. The railroads are also a bit questionable by today's standards because although it makes it a lot easier to play, the railroads can be built at ninety degree angles, something that is impossible with real traintracks which can bend maybe no more than like 10 degrees. At the same time, it's quite entertaining just to see the freight trains pass the ninety degree bends with no problems at all. This game holds a special place in my life not just because I played it so much but also because it was the game that brought the whole Simcity Saga into my life and is the grandfather of the simcity games. It's definatety a keeper just for it's vintage value and the memories that it holds for me. A true classic in every way. This game is the grandfather of the Simcity Saga at least for me it is.
"It looks good, but DON'T buy it!", This game is extremely bad. The only good sim games are the awesome "The Sims" games. In SimCity, th only way to build homes, hospitals, airports etc... is to use the urban renewal kit! If you build a city useing the regular game it does not build buildings at all! If you choose to make an area of land residential, it does not build homes, it colors the land green! This game is horrible! When you look at your finished city, it is a huge color coded land mass!
"A gem, if you have a bit of patience...", I own the first three Sim City games, so when I got this one, I was used to playing the first Sim City, so I struggled with the interface changes and new additions. But when I began to be successful, I started to really love the funny newspapers, rewards, and other good things, so I am a convert. It's a shame that SimCity 3000 failed to compel me half as much. Buy this one and abort your search for fancy graphics: once you master this game, you won't care that they aren't in crisp 3D.
"Boredom Buster", This game deserves four stars if your playing for a boredom buster instead of enjoyment. This is a fun yet agrivating game that can keep you playing for days trying to get that big city any mayor wished they could have. The game is aggrivating in a way because it is easy to fail and have your city go into debt. But If youre bored this is a great game.
"Greatest game ever", I think sim city is the best, even if it doesn't have the best graphics(it has pretty good ones any way) it is a classic I'll never forget. I say everyone should have sim-city2000!
