"CD Burning for Dummies"
OK, so you just want to burn music CDs and save Data?? Then CD Creator Platinum 5 should be your #1 choice. In spite of what some of the previous reviews have to say, this product is the best and easiest format you can get. Make CDs, labels and save data simply and easily. If you want life to me more complicated than that, look at other products that do everything but shine your shoes, if of course you can figure out how to use them in six months or less. Roxio should still offer this product as the down and dirty option to the new and very complex products that they and other companies now offer. Find CD Creator Platinum 5 and buy it. It really does the job.

"Windows XP Users Beware of the Product"
Easy CD Creator works fine on older versions of Windows. But don't try to use it on anything newer than Windows 98. The program freezes so badly it can't be soft booted. The CD's are ruined forever. Sometimes the drive won't even open, it just keeps burning for hours and can only be stopped by a hard boot. The "fix" for Windows XP from the Roxio site took 50 mins. to download on dialup and then it failed! My advice is to avoid Easy CD Creator until Roxio comes out with a better product.

"Better than Version 6"
Although not perfect, I've used Roxio CD/DVD 6 Platinum and Nero 6, and returned to using this product. This should also be called "Burning CD's for Dummies", it is THAT easy to use. I've also used it to burn VCD's without a hitch. If all you want is a fast disk copier and compiler, this is for you.

"one flaw"
I'm actually quite satisfied with this software, except...

"DirectCD" (thier drag & drop feature) is buggy. I have CD Creator 4 on my old desktop and recently bought a laptop with CD Creator 5 pre-installed. Of course, the two versions are compatible when it comes to "burned" files, but all the files I had temorarily stored on a "Direct CD" disk were simply ERASED when I tried to access them on the new version!!!

I've painfully learned my lesson and will never trust Direct CD for anything important again. You should burn all your files on rewritable CDs to make sure they're cross compatible and don't get lost!

"All you need!"
The best CD burning software available! Version 4 won't work on XP and version 6 is the worst product they've ever made. Find a copy and buy it.

What our customer's say!

"Disappointed with Roxio makers of Easy CD createtor 5 Platinum.", I am extremelly disappointed with Roxio, the makers of CD Creators; especailly Easy CD Creator 5. I purchased Easy CD Creator 5, sometime back from an affiliate of Amazon.com. It was dispatched promptly and in very good condition. I installed it on my computer running Windows 98. After some initial problmes it was running fine.

A few days back I installed Windows XP professional on my computer, and I got a message that the CD Creator was not compatible with this version of Windows. It hinted to contact Roxio. I tried contact Roxio with the help of the link, but found it impossible to send them my message. They have an automated "Roxann" that is so difficult to understand. Next they invite you to a "Webticket" and you are supposed to mention your problem on it. But when you submit your query or complain, nothing happens. The site just stares at you dumbly!! There is no way to obtain Roxio's mailing address either. So now I am stuck with this "Easy CD Creator 5" with no help from Roxio?!

"Burn CD's, not your money. Try other products first.", The first version of Easy CD Creator I used was CD Creator 4 basic. It was okay, pretty much what it said it was: basic. I got the upgrade to that from an Ebay auction and it worked pretty good. Later due to lack of support by the manufacturer for new CDRW drives in good old version 4, I upgraded to CD Creator 5 Platinum (The version being sold here.) This too worked pretty good - for a little while. Then the operation was moved over from Adaptec to Roxio, and from that point onward, things have been more thorny than rosy.

Roxio will REQUIRE you to register the product in order to download the (ONE) utterly essential update to keep this thing running. Perhaps you don't mind that, but I feel it's a somewhat minor invasion of privacy. Plus you have to keep track of your password to the website and if you change ISP's you will have to RE-REGISTER. A hassle to say the least. Also , since Roxio took the reins, there are no further updates being provided. Instead Roxio tries to "encourage" (read "browbeat") you into getting the software upgrade for even more money. This upgrade will NOT work on Win98SE, which I still use for various reasons. So IF I were to upgrade the software AGAIN, I would also have to spend the extra money for a new operating system with all the faults and foibles that can introduce with other apps that I need and still use. If you have money to burn along with all those shiny round coasters you are going to be making, I applaud you. I prefer to keep a little cash for retirement.

It is difficult if not impossible to get support from any real carbon-based life form, and the website gives little or no support for some of the issues you may face, such as getting "Illegal Request" errors from Direct CD, or inability to format or erase CDRW's that was once possible in version 4. Also, any CDRW's created in version 4 MAY NOT be readable with the new software, or at the least there are some technical issues with this. At any rate, it is not neccessarily all that "EASY" unless you are fairly technically inclined and understand (or are willing to learn) some of the finer technical points in CD recording technology. I prefer not to be bothered with it, I just want to create some CDs.

I now find that some functions do not work appropriately at all, especially Direct CD, a program that originally provided the ability to do "drag and drop" writing of files to a Read/Write CD. Now I find that Direct CD is non-functional, and the only CD's I can write are CDR's, and there are problems growing in that area as well. Speed of the CDRW or brand of the recording media does not seem to be the issue. The software simply refuses to work as it once did.

It shouldn't be called "EASY CD Creator". Perhaps "IRRITATING" CD Creator would be more appropriate.

In Summary: This does not deserve stars. Perhaps a few "BLACK HOLES"? While I once would have given wholehearted supported this product, regrettably I cannot support it with the same enthusiasm now.

"No support; No updates; Nero incompatability", I spent the last 3 hours trying to get support for this product. Although the site did not reject me it sent me through loops to get an "update" that when run, errored out as soon as it began.

"Don't bother. Support bites! They only seem to want you to upgrade to latest version", This program is average to below average in it's abilities.

That said, just hope you don't need any Roxio tech support.
Why? because Roxio's support bites!

You CANNOT contact anyone online or by email for help;
whenever their dis-functional "web portal" [web-based support] system traps you in an endless loop.

I needed an couple simples updates for a pc that is NOT ALLOWED on the internet.

It used to be you could download Roxio's PATCHES from any pc having internet access.
Then burn patch[s] to a CD, or copy to floppy/jumpdrive.
Then "sneakernet" the patches to the pc needing them.

NO MORE.

What happened today was that their webpage was apparently trying to download/patch a roxio product directly on MY pc.
[EZCD5 doesn't exist on my pc].

Instead of simply letting me download it somewhere, like to my hard drive, vs patchging it directly from their webpage to my pc,
[which won't work in my case as I'm not using roxio, nor have it installed on my pc];
apparently the morons that did the roxio webpage coding make the download/patch process STOP/END and proceed to send the customer back to Roxio's initial patch download page.

When you need a patch, all these endless loops and support games
are enough to get me looking for a different product/different company.

If you want to minimize human contact with customers, fine.
But let folks at least download the patches they need in order to keep their pc going.
Don't hand over your customer support system [almost] completely to a WEB SERVER.
That ignorant arrangement works about as well as when companies try to save a few pennies and get rid of phone receptionists for customer service telephone calls.
Then they let customers wade through a 100 layer deep voicemail system to find the answer to a simple problem.

IT JUST DOESN'T WORK.

If a company won't provide access to PATCHES,
even after I have logged into their website with username and password, [so they know is accessing their patches]
AND they don't offer any type of
FTP site as a download backup option, then
I sure as heck won't be buying anymore of their products.

I see why Roxio bought up CeQuadrat and other companies.
[Though I hate to see such quality companies be devoured like that].
When a competitor has a better product, why fight to improve your prodsuct's quality/features, when you can buy the other company out.

Thank goodness Nero is not under the Roxio umbrella.

"Will Not Load onto XP", Despite many attempts and a complete reinstall of Windows XP, my XP machine refused to load Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, rendering the progam disc and all update discs useless.

Probably if you already had the program running in a 98 environment and then upgraded to XP you could keep it running with patches and updates. So take statements by resellers that they provide update discs with a grain of salt. If you cannot install the primary program, the update disc is of no use.

The program is a good one but you have to run it on a 98 machine.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Hugely Incapable and lacking in support", I probably wouldn't even bother to rate this product; Instead, tossing it aside and foraging for a new, more capable product. But the simple fact that I had to plop down about $100 for this useless product makes me angry enough to write a review.

So, if nothing else, I hope my review affects some of your decision making and you opt not to buy this product.

One of the big selling points on the box, for me, was the Take Two program. Only to realize, in order to use this software on my XP machine, I had to download an update that removes the Take Two program. So, an already overpriced product just became less valuable.

I decided to go ahead and keep the product and use it for the cd burning qualities, but really, you can find a software package for a quarter of the price that will burn mp3's and wave files for you. At the same time, most of these lower priced programs will convert mp3 to wave and vise versa.

As of right now I'm using cheaper products to do my burning and file converting and they take up less room on my hard drive, at the same time, using less RAM. Also, I might add, that these programs seem not to crash at all, whereas CD Creator would frequently crash.

So, shop around, try demos out, but do not buy this product. It is an overpriced, fairly ineffective, pain in the a**.
Support is terrible and you'll only be giving your money to a huge company that cares very little to make a worthwhile program.

Good luck

"Better Than the Reports", Used to use version 4 and bought CD Creator 6 only to encounter many problems, not to mention the interface was tedious and anything but intuitive. Got a copy of CD Creator 5, installed the updates and I'm really liking it so far. Very logical, easy to use and is similar to version 4 but far more full-featured. This is the best that Roxio has to offer. Forget version 6.

"Easy CD Creator 5", I have used Easy CD Creator 4 Delux since it came out. I just got a new PC with Windows XP Home Edition. Easy CD Creator 4 does not work with my new PC. I tried Easy CD Creator 5 and it is worse. It caused me many problems. Roxio was no help.

"Deteriorating Badly", When I bought Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum a couple of years ago, it was an excellent program: numerous useful features, all of which worked extremely well. The next upgrade made some useful corrections on minor problems AND THEN CAME the upgrade which removed Take Two AND WORSE. the further upgrade which allegedly adapted Easy CDC to Windows 2000 and XP. (I still use Windows 98/2, as it does what I need, and many of my older programs give increasing diffculties with each new Version of Windows!-not to mention the Security Issues.)

Since then I have had nothing but trouble from it.I have reluctantly been forced to agree with the numerous customers who have expressed on the Amazon Site their disgust with the steady deterioration of the Program- on all Windows platforms - since its acquisition by Roxio.Their Web Site is now an unhelpful mess, and virtually impossible to get any useful answer from, and when I tried to uninstall Easy CDC to load Nero Burning Rom 5.5 (they are not supposed to be on a P.C. at the same time together), Easy CDC removed a vital Windows System File resulting in my having had to 're-load Windows', and the rest of my Hard Drive, from a Disaster Recovery Set, which, of course, has re-installed Easy CDC!! Fortunately Nero now has a program which deletes Drivers which clash with it and, after about 4 weeks, it looks as though I will soon be burning CDs again...

"After all these years...!!", I work for a company that uses EASY CD CREATOR 5 PLATNUM, and we have been using this for 2 years without a single hitch...UNTIL NOW. We only use this software to burn data onto cds. Now when we try to use it it freezes and stays in the "burning" phase for hours on end without burning anything, hence damaging the blank cd we have inside. Usually the whole screen freezes causeing Windows (2000) to automatically shut down the computer. That gets annoying when I'm working on a project. On top of that, none of our TOP COMPUTER Administrators know how to fix the prob. Example: I called Comp guys that are in San Fransisco. They couldn't figure out problem, so I had to call comp guys in London, still no good. They called Australia, also unsuccessful. If USA, LONDON, and AUSTRALIA can't figure how to fix this prob, there is seriously something wrong with ROXIO/Easy cd Creator 5 platinum. I'm listening to the advice given to me, by other amazon reviewers and the comp guys at work. I'm getting Nero. It may not have the "Baby Pictures" that some people need, but I'm at least willing to sit there and learn it for the sake of any future problems.
Rating: ZERO STARS
Sometimes one prob is just too many.
