"Flawed but fun", It's flawed but fun.

The fun:
Smart alec "Scooter" Davis as IP. Just like a lot of IP's in the Air Force.

All the choices of aircraft to fly.

All the different campaigns.

Flight models generally realistic; i.e., you can't haul an F-105 around the sky like an F-16.

Graphics are not bad for someone with an older computer and Windows 98.

Flaws:
Avionics! USAF F-4E's did not have a HUD, nor did F-105's. The early F-16C modelled also did not have onboard ECM. And the A-10 does not have radar of any kind - the Warthog modelled here has both A/A and A/G radar.

Also, the MiG-29 is quite incorrect. The cockpit looks like an American jet with some pseudo-Cyrillic lettering. The Fulcrum is also displayed with a dorsal airbrake. The real thing has clamshell airbrakes between the engine nozzles.

The Quick Missions are kind of neat and good practise. However, you cannot choose the loadout for your bird beyond A/A or A/G modes - what they give you is what you get. It's kind of funny to fly a MiG-29 in the A/G mode, though - they give you US Mk 83 bombs! Also, it would be nice to be able to practise inflight refuelling and to have "backseaters" on the F-15E and F-4E.

The Fly Now mode is absolute insanity, but sometimes that's a good thing.

Overall, pretty good, but you HAVE to have the manual. I'm glad I bought the initial release with the manual. I have the jewel case versions of Jane's F-15E and F/A-18 and have barely played them because of the cheap PDF manual on the disk - I don't fancy going through a ream of paper and several ink cartridges just to have the manual.

"best game ever!!!", this is the best game i ever played. It is so realistic that you actually think you are right there flying the plane. I recomend this game to everyone. you wont regret buying it. gauranteed!!!

"Too bad... It had a lot of potential.", This game made a very good impression on me. In fact, I thought it was the best ever. However, there's a big "but". There are so many BUGS!!! It is unbelievable that Jane's was able to release this thing with so many bugs. I was put in disbelief, because this game has some of the best graphics and realism I've ever seen for a fighter-jet game.

I know what you're thinking, though. Look for a patch? Nope. Jane's Combat Simulations apparently abandoned their long-lived legacy of combat flight sims right after releasing USAF. Unbelieveable.

Bottom line... This game is nothing but a disappointment.

"nvdia-yes, ati-no(revised)ati - ok", ...after reinstalling usaf and setting compatibility to windows 2000 for XP the usaf seemed to work much better...I guess the ati 9700works fine with this game,but I figured this out without ati tech help!...for windows 95,98&ME the game runs fine and good on XP with compatibility set to Windows 2000...enjoyable simulator,especially mid-air refueling near hostile area...fill-up,lock-on, fire and flee!

"Still Best Yet !", USAF was the first "combat" flight sim I ever got. I thought the training was very helpful. I've completed all the missions about four times. Since my first successful completion of the game. I have purchased several other combat sims and none have even come close to USAF. I have four of them in front of me and i keep picking up USAF over and over again !!!

"When You Age", .... It took me many days to get my joystick to work with this program. Yet, you still need to use the keyboard when you want to slow down, use the breaks, and release the landing gear. I flew a little and it made my head spin. Some years ago I would recover from my dizziness and would go right on playing. But now it is just not fun anymore. This program does not make me forget that it is computer-generated planes I am trying to shoot down. When you see the real planes the program is attempting to simulate, even if it is just on TV, you will always think about how pale this electronic imitation really is. .... Still, strategy games of war are fun for me, while this is an exercise in getting dizzy and disoriented.

"The best Modern day Combat Flight Sim", This has got to be the best modern day flight sim around. it is purely great nothing beetes it. You have to get it.

"too confusing!!!!", This game is too confusing! I have the joystick the memory and the game. It's hard to get off the ground much less hit something when your in the air. The sarcastic flight instructer get's on your nerves after a few of his comments. The graphics are great and if you are good at flight simulators buy this game. If not skip it.
