"Could Be Better"
Stonekeep is basically a DOS game run in protected mode in win95 & win98. During setup it will ask you what type of sound card, DMA, IRQ, etc. Make sure you know or want to deal with these when consider buying this game.
There are 22 levels on this game. Most people will probably able to complete 50% of the whole game. Beyond that you will need hints to continue further. The good news is that you can find web sites that will provide you free hints on this game. However even with the hints the later levels are difficult to play.
This game could be better. The background could be more vary. There are levels which could be boring because the game basically load with the same background with different colors.
There are also a few bugs on this game.

"Dull and Boreing"
I got this game and it was horrible. Every level seemed like it was the same, only good part was the neat movie at the beginning.

"The best game ever"
It's been about 7 years since I played Stonekeep and it is still hands down the best game I've ever played. Nobody, not even Interplay, could come up with anything that compares to it. The graphics were amazing at the time, and the game completely draws you in. I regret using the hint book, but the game would have probably taken me a year without it. Interplay was supposed to make a sequel, but apparently decided not to because I've been looking for it ever since I stopped playing the first one. If you don't have this game, buy it now. Trust me.

"Classic! Favorite all-time game!"
When I first got this game, back in 95 or so if I remember correctly, this was THE game to have -- but only for a short time because it was one of the first games that met standards still valid in todays gaming industry and shortly after, many new games came out that shadowed STONEKEEP. The graphics aren't all that impressive compared to todays hi-req standards, but they are still impressive and very entertaining. This is a very in-depth game that sucks you in -- the kind that makes the clock seem to skip an hour or two and turn the day to night without notice. I can't say enough about this game, it really does speak for Interplay's talents, even 6 or 7 years ago. The basic plot of the game is that of medeivel times with magic and battle. You have to find newer and better weapons, advance your character's stats by practicing with them, and collect THOUSANDS of items. I don't think I ever would have beaten this game without the hint-book, as this game is extraordinarily demanding on concentration and play-time. All time classic, I bought this back in 95 but the CD got scratched, so... I just ordered it again! And for [price], I don't feel a bit guilty for it. This was a $50.00 game when it came out and I never felt it got the publicity it rightfully deserves. Game comes with a pretty interesting book as well which explains much of the plot. I can't recommend a game more. Good luck!

"How cool this game is."
Stonekeep is simply one of the best games I ever played. This labyrinth style game has got fantastic music and is rich with dragons, goblins and faeries. This game is able to stretch my imagination to the wildest. Stonekeep also has got so many secrets and it is not possible to get them all out. It also got very good graphic for a DOS game which did not utilise DirectX. I recommend this game to all teenagers or above.

"THE BEST GAME EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", This is one of the best games i ever played even now 10 years later it's still fun if you are a rpg/adventure fan THIS is the game for you .

"Game is okay, but there's still a bug Interplay didn't fix.", I agree with the user below, but as one of the earlier reviewers mentioned, this game has many bugs. Version 1.2 fixed many bugs, and you're able to get the clues from Wahooka if you don't foul up, plus Enigma doesn't prevent players from entering the Faerie Realm in that version. However, I have seen two problems that have been occuring. One problem is new in Version 1.2, the other has been there from day one and should have been fixed by Interplay long ago. The door to the gate in the Gate of the Ancients is supposed to be locked when you first arrive. Also, the very first group of shadow-skulls in the Palace of Shadows never appear.

"excellent game", I have to say that I loved this game. You get to fight with many different weapons, you can cast spells, fight all kinds of creatures, and it is long and difficult enough to keep you busy for several months. Very entertaining.

"Stonekeep is a Keeper", An interesting game style, storyline, and overall gameplay. I played this game a few years ago and still recall it as a good game. The graphics were good at the time and still are, the sound and sound track were well put together. Enjoyed many an hour and loss of sleep hackin' away at this little number. For the price now, I would definitely pick it up as part of your gaming warehouse.

"save your money", the title was a little forboding but if you look hard enough you can find a bundle package by interplay with close to 20 or 30 games for 25 bucks this one included as well as fallout 1 and redneck rampage i would suggest all of these games in the bundle and they are all fun but get more for your money is all i am saying

"The Perfect Balance", I am here trying to find a game that measures up to Stonekeep! It is among the first couple of games that I ever played. Unfortunatly, that ruined me for much else. I have since bought over 20 games trying to find one that I enjoyed just as much! There are almost 20 levels, and though sometimes they get tedious, if you explore every wall, hall etc. thouroughly...you will enjoy the game much more! It is the perfect balance for a beginner, or advanced adventurer, with some battle/fighting, puzzle solving, comic relief, exploreing, magic, spells, etc. It had a little bit of everything and that's what made it great! There are a little bit of technical problems w/ a patch etc. because it's older, but it is definitly worth the trouble! As in anything though--the more expectations you start with, the more room you have too be disappointed. So just relax, don't think too much about it, and just have fun!!

"Quite enjoyable for its time", Although not on my list of all-time favorites, Stonekeep was fun, with impressive graphics for its time, a solid interface, and good old gritty dungeon explorin'. I played about 2/3 of the way through it, and that's impressive, since I'm not the most patient player.

"Stonekeep", I loved this game when it came out (which was around 6-7 years ago I think). I have wondered over the years if the same people were going to make any new games. Stonekeep had to be the best game I have ever played. It was exciting, you fight monsters, join up with dwarves, hear some nice rap music from some funky fairies (it's a complete hoot!). It was a great combination of real photography and animation. I have played a lot of games since then and none of them entertain you on as many different levels as Stonekeep did. I do wonder however how they got it to run smoothly on the newer pc systems. I had problems with it running on a gateway computer back then (had to make a low boot disk, ammend some system files, etc.) before I got it to run seamlessly. If you're only interested in hack-and-slash games then Stonekeep probably isn't for you. However if you like adventure, good character development, good special effects, singing ornery fairies (they look more like drunken street goblins), treasure, puzzles, a few good laughs and a great plot - than by all means don't pass this one up!

"Bad DOS, Bad DOS.........", I found out very fast why I hate playing games that still have access to the DOS system. I have played quite a few games via DOS, and never really liked it because we had to keep loading DOS and then restarting computer, but you get the idea. This game, StoneKeep, I guess would be a good game if it wasn't misleading. It says that it works on Win 95, 98, 2000 and Win ME. Well, I don't really know as we have a new Gateway, and it doesn't really like playing DOS games. Either that, or after trying for an hour, I just gave up. But, if you enjoyed it, I'm glad that you were able to. I wasn't, but just wanted to let others know that this game is slightly misleading. If anyone cares to find out what other games that I have used, played, owned, feel free to contact me at:

"AWSOME GAME!", This game is the best! Good engine, great graphics, and the best point and click item menu. Also the sound is incredible. You name it! A huge dungeon with maps you can take notes on, and quests will keep anyone busy for hours. The only reason I don't play this game anymore is because it was stolen.
