"This is a GREAT GAME!!"
I have to admit this game is awesome. The graphics and the usage of charactors and so on are the best. The only problem is the fact that you can only play it on your computer. I keep waiting to see if they will make this game for say the PS2 or 3. That would be much much better in my opinion. Having to use the keyboard/mouse for things is a pain but once you get that down your good to go. = )
EA Games needs to make this game compatable for play stations tho.

"Still A Masterpiece In My Eyes"
American Mcgee's Alice is and always will be a legend. i was 10 when my brother got this game and even 6 years later it's the one game i own that gets the most play time on my computer which is a severly out dated dell running windows 98. it had the best graphics and music for it's time i'd say. i've never really been one for the third person adventure genre seeing as i'm a die-hard RPG guy. and coming from me that means it's an amazing game. i'd say that if this game has interested you get a copy. it's worth it. and chances are you going to love it. i've gotten everyone in my computer club to play this game and they loved it. give it a try

"Great for it's time."
Oooh, I remember when I saw the box art in the stores..I knew I wanted it. I think the game should be (not sequaled but) remade with more modern graphics & better AI, more levels, but keep the characters & story as-is. I'd love to open up a page in (insert any of 3 gaming zine titles) & see an advert for ALICE: Revamped.

This is one of my /favorite/ computer games. The morbid re-make of Alice in Wonderland was a admirable idea. {I also heard that they're making a Wizard of Oz one??} Alice is definately a memorable and unique character. Her reactions to things are not what you'd excpect and that's what I like most about her, besides of course how completely disturbed she is which puts a very necessary spin on the game. I definately reccommend this game because it is VERY fun.
One thing I did not like about this game were the game controls. Use 'w' to walk forward? Why not just the arrow keys? And I sometimes lost my little aim dot and ended up being killed. But I do understand that this game is six years. About a previous review that stated when you die you have to watch the scenes again I'd like to point out that this is not a true statement-if you don't feel like watching a scene you can press Esc and it will take you out of it but not to the main menu unless you press it twice.
Overall if your looking to spend a few bucks and try something fun and vintage I suggest this game. =)

"Going back down the rabbit hole"
When I first tried playing American Mcgee's Alice, I began to worry I was tumbling down the wrong rabbit hole. It turns out that I was wrong.

American Mcgee's Alice, known to some as the third chapter in Alice's life, revolves around a nightmarish Wonderland taken over by the monstrous Red Queen. Driven insane by being the only survivor in a fire that claimed the lives of her parents, Alice resides in an asylum with a battered stuffed rabbit - the only remainder of her past life. But when a tragic cry from the rabbit summons Alice back down the rabbit hole, she's forced to work her way through the former fairytale-land and return Wonderland to its original state.

For a game purely about the mythical world of Wonderland, the effort and creativity put into the game has to be tremendous. Fortunately, Alice does just that. The beautifully designed backgrounds and detailed characters really put you into the game (Even six years from its release date!) and sometimes caused me to stop and look out the window, just to ensure I was still in the real world and not in Alice's dream. Staying true to the speech of the original books, the characters of Alice speak just as they would have a few centuries ago, which was rather a nice touch. And each character was uniquely designed - Alice, your friends, and your enemies...which brings me to the next topic.

A game like Alice simply can't do without its weapons. Fortunately, you have ten weapons and three power-ups to fulfill your needs. Each weapon is designed like a toy (though there are few who would consider a butcher knife a toy), and each causes devastating damage to your enemy. Controlled purely by Alice's willpower, these toys will surely turn battle-time into playtime.

As you navigate through the game, you will often be surprise-attacked, or forced to solve a small jumping puzzle or two. It's true that the game is slightly linear and can get dull at some points, but the creative eye-candy put into the game more than makes up for the lack of original gameplay.

Alice, though a dated game, is easily worth the little money you can pay these days to get your hands on a copy of it. If you're ready for a new, warped Wonderland, get ready to go back down the rabbit hole. It may be the most curious adventure on your computer you'll ever have.

What our customer's say!

"Original and Intriguing", This game has superb graphics. I say that, even though it's several years old and the graphics system it uses is far outdated. The levels are beautiful, if macabre and at times, darkly bitter. The sound is also a plus. It really adds to the game and completes the theme. The voice acting is good as well; unlike many games with mediocre voice acting, the Cheshire Cat has a deep, philosophical, and slightly mocking tone that suited him completely, as did Alice's pointed, shrewd, and slightly rude tone. At times some of the nonplayer characters have slightly annoying voices, but that's probably in character, as many of these characters are annoying.
Alice's controls aren't difficult to use, and even a gamer not well suited to computer gaming would probably be able to pick them up. There are many jumping puzzles, and here we come to one of the weaknesses. There's a lot of guessing involved in the jumping. There is a handy foot marker to where Alice will land, but often times it's inaccurate or simply not helpful, especially with moving objects. Alice also seems to scoot a bit past her jumping point, which is slightly frustrating. Another major weakness is how the water was done. The camera angles in the water can be very frustrating, and it's sometimes difficult to tell Alice to swim in the direction you'd like her to. She gets "stuck," if you will, and there's no real meter as to how long she can last underwater.
The action in the game is engaging. While it's a first person shooter, and at times it can seem a "kill everything on the screen" game, the action isn't the main facet of the game. There are many puzzles along the way to frustrate and engage you. Alice's "toys," or weapons, are very interesting as well, and using them in combination can lead to interesting and destructive results. Many of the bosses are interesting, at the very least, to fight.
The story is a macabre and, at times, slightly confusing, web. I would have liked a bit more attention paid to some of the reasoning; for example, why weapons lie about for no apparent reason. The story itself is highly engaging, however; without giving away too much, Alice's fight for sanity in the twisted realm of Wonderland is a tale that is very interesting.
While this treatment of a children's story is not entirely new, this game is very original, and one that you will not regret buying. It's also very cheap, as it's an old game. It's medium in length, but it doesn't feel too long or two short. There isn't a whole lot of replay value, as the only difference is the difficulty increase, though you might want to play the story through again. I highly recommend this game.

"I LOVE this game", I'm not that much into video/computer games because I have a hard time finding a game that sparks my interest. This game is the only game I own and I have played it over and over and over again. This is THE best game out there. They need to make more games like this.

"It's okay", I ordered this game because growing up it came out and i wasn't old enough. It sounded really cool and all but when I bought it and started playing I just wasn't wowed by it. Not to say it isn't a good game for the time it came out but I found the soundtrack more interesting than the graphics and what not.

"Sick,Twisted and Addicting.", I bought this game years ago and wore it out, then I bought it again. It's that good.
Seeing "poor Alice" in that blood stained dress and carrying that big knife is a must see.

"Dark and sometimes annoying", This game has a dark tone from the moment it is installed on the computer. Is has many different levels and with each level comes a different foe. When playing this game i was often more suprised than Alice when a new enemy appeared. As you travel further into the game you will get chills down your spine as you experience the evilness that has become wonderland. The game is exciting and challenging. Often times you will be stuck repeating certian portions of a level because you keep dying. The chashire cat's sayings will become stuck in you head and you will want to throw your computer against the wall about the hunderth time you are repeating the same level again. Although it can be highly agrivating there is something about this game that pushes you forward and makes you want to see what's around the next bend. It is addicting and you will be glued to your computer until you finally reach the last battle.

"THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THIS GAME IS......", I can't think of a single thing I don't LOVE about this game.. IT'S PERFECT IN EVERY ASPECT!

the only bad thing is THEY DON'T HAVE IT FOR ANY CONSOLES! I so want to play this on my ps2.

"Good game ", Yeah, it's an older game now. But it has a great plot and it is visually beautiful and artistic. Okay, it's a little morbid too with children beating thier heads against the walls but it is a good play especially for the distrubed at heart.

"My God! These reviews are six years old", This game pretty much sucks. It is an old game that makes you start at the begining of a scene each time you are killed. You have to sit thru all the same stuff too many times. Bought this cause it was cheap. Not worth it.

"What every game should aspire to be like in some way!", Aside from the sublime Half-Life 2, this game is my all-time favourite. I play it over and over again, just to savour the wonderfully bizarre atmosphere. This is the sort of game that just screams quality and depth. I didn't mind that the game basically consisted of run, jump, disembowel with knife. Overly complicated and/or convoluted gameplay always gets on my nerves, and I prefer something straightforward. By contrast, although it looked nice and had a good storyline, I found it impossible to play Max Payne because I couldn't get the hang of the controls. Maybe if I was more of a fanatic... but I digress.
I'm into literature, and there was something about Alice that, although it initially seemed to have very little to do with the books which gave it birth, to my mind preserved the very thing which gave life to Wonderland as it was in writing. Namely, it still contains that childlike whimsy and wonder, while giving it a dark and macabre twist that is distinctly Victorian. The riddles, the slightly bizarre declarations made by the characters (eg: 'In war, truth first! There's always time for lies later'- said by the White King), are all distinctly of the books.
The atmosphere, as many have already said, is one of the strongest points in the game. In one particular level - to wit, the Hall of Mirrors in the Mad Hatter's realm - I actually got physically scared and had to take a break.
'nuff said!

"A macabre twist to Alice In Wonderland", My brother, whom is very morbid, gave this game to me when I got my computer. I fell in love with American Mcgee's Alice. The way that all the character's looks are twisted to nightmarish quality makes this game unique in that it takes a childrens fairy tale and makes it into an adult fantasy land. The weapons were awesome and inventive: like the jacks, dice, and cards. When Alice comes across some red potion, it sprays in her face and she makes an anquished sound and turns evil, horns and all. This allows you to have extra power for a short period of time. The levels are complex and long to an extent. If you are not using cheat codes, it takes a while to beat one level. With the cheat codes you can become invincible, have every weapon and use it endlessly, and can float through walls to see the traps that are set for you. The Queen of Hearts is a disturbing image of what she is usually depicted and the graphics of the last level are just awesome. It would probably be impossible to beat the last level without cheatcodes. All in all, this is one of the best computer games that I have ever played, and I look forward to any other games that American McGee's comes up with.
