Others say...
"This CD is A Must Own for Rock Fans!" I was lucky enough to be present at the show this cd is a recording of. All I can say is that I am so glad they made it because it gets better every time i listen to it - and I certainly don't remember evry last detail from the show so it was very considerate of Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes to record this!
The Black Crowes show here they are one of the most underrated rock n roll bands EVER. Chris Robinson is way more than credible filling in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin numbers and he meshes naturally with Page on the covers and Crowes songs. I expected him to be good and Page is in fine form flawlessly recreating the Zeppelin glory, and showing true musicianship on the blues covers included here. Page is really deserving of his accolades. But once again I expected that.
What I hear every time I listen that I DIDN't expect is how excellent and downright righteous the band is. These guys can just flat out play and they are to me on a level with the E Street Band for their musical versatility, funkiness, and rock solid renditions of old and new material. I don't know about you, but as a guitarist myself, I would never want to solo AFTER Jimmy Page, and Rich Robinson steps up to the plate and delivers on this count. The whole band does. I love this collection, probably more because I was there, but if you like ROCK music you will love this too. It's great.
"top of the live pops?" Down low, high & tight, this has got to rate up there among the greatest live rock recordings. Only The Who's "Live at Leeds" can match the tight licks and loose grooves of this gem. A classic that not even Zep could match live. Where's the DVD?
"Return of the Monster Riffs" Zep had, hands down, the best and heaviest riffs in rock and roll history, all penned by one Jimmy Page. The resurrected versions found on these discs are, if anything, even meaner and more massive after their long hibernation. Listen to the sample of the Lemon Song. It's like a soundtrack for the apocalypse. It swings like a wrecking ball. Makes Linkin Park sound a little whiny doesn't it?
OK, Page's solos aren't 100% on point, but he still gets 5 stars because any one of these riffs can eat entire other bands for breakfast. Make sense? OK, put it this way...Jimmy had to do a lot of drugs to be able to go to that strange, dark place where these riffs were living and drag them kicking and screaming back to the land of the living. For that we will forgive him a few off notes here and there.
If you've got any testosterone, for God's sake, get this.
"Husband Loved It" I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He absolutely loved it! I'm sure he'd recommend it to any fan of the Black Crowes.
"A Nostalgic Return to the Blues" For many people, Jimmy Page IS the soul of Led Zep. Back in 1999, after finishing his world tour with Robert Plant - he went on tour with the Black Crowes presumably to fill the hole in the soul. And you know what? The combination worked.
I had no idea what to expect when I heard that the two had teamed up. The Black Crowes? All I knew was their cover "Hard to Handle" and "Shake Your Money Maker." So the real reason for me buying this may have been Jimmy Page - but it takes two to tango - and incredibly, the Black Crowes made a perfect fit.
LIVE AT THE GREEK is a trip into the heady past of Zep and its roots. Chris Robinson doesn't have quite the same range as Plant - but comes close SURPRISINGLY in spirit and feel. Surprisingly, he FEELS like a young Plant bursting out of the gates. It's not easy singing any Zep song, but Robinson does his best in hitting the high notes. He succeeds on most tracks -like Celebration Day, Out on the Tiles, Sick Again, Custard Pie -but he kinda flops on Heartbreaker. (That's a minor foible though) The band just rocks though and never lets up - twin guitars playing Zep and the blues - creating a full on sound that even Zep couldn't do in its later touring years.
Ironically, the Page-Black Crowes combination evokes much of Zep's early years precisely because of the straight arrangements and the blues covers. More so than Page-Plant could really do. Of course there's no substitute for the real thing, but you can't blame a guy like Jimmy Page for jamming the world's greatest rock songs can you?

What our customer's say!
"Superb performance and sound quality", A friend of mine asked me to sell some used CD's for her on Ebay, and this was one of them. I decided (for some reason) to give it a listen as I was headed out the door one Sunday afternoon. My attitude was "Let me hear how much this sucks". After all, Jimmy Page, Black Crowes...yeah OK this is gonna suck like a vacuum cleaner.
I came home, called my friend and asked if I could keep this one for myself. Yes, it's that good. Simply put the energy of this performance via the Black Crowes is amazing, and then you add Page to the mix and you have one hot band. I would have bet that no way could this band measure up to Led Zeppelin, but they come mighty close for my money.
Another point is the sound...it literally jumps out of the speakers. Not sure how they recorded it but damn it hits you square in the chest, just like a well recorded concert should. Yes it's a trip down memory lane for Page but for me it's well worth a listen and a must have if you're a Crowes for Zep fan. Just go and buy it already!

"truly awesome", Given it is the Black Crowes and Page I expected good things, however I was blown away. If you like bluesy, sexy, powerful driven music - then this is for you. This combination makes In My Time of Dying, Custard Pie, Celebration Day and Out on the Tiles rock. They slide through Ten Years Gone, Your Time is Gonna Come and The Lemon Song in ways that will give you new appreciation for the music. Page hits a few sour notes in his solos, but beyond that this is certainly worthy of purchase.
"Great Rock - Is Great, NO Matter Who's Playing It", Folks - come on, great rock is just that, no matter who's playing it. The Black Crows kick some serious behind all by themselves - and put Jimmy in there with them and what do you have??? WHEW, this CD really gets it on. I'm an old guy (old enough to have seen Zepplen on their FIRST US tour in 1969) and have loved them ever since, but there's no point in talking about being a purist, this is quality work by a bunch of quality musicians and for a live recording, I think the mix is quite good. So, enough said, if you want super hot classic rock tunes to shake things up with, this is the single coolest CD you need, absolutely mate
"Not good if you are a true Plant fan. Dissappointing for me.", I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan and Black Crowes fan and thought that this CD was going to Rock. I'd say if your are more of a Crowes fan this would be a 5 star, but if you are a true Robert Plant fan...I'd give it a 2. A let down on most songs except the few that were not Zeppelin. Just not the same, maybe if the songs were changed to be more their own. Just didn't live up to what I thought it could be.
"An astonishing reprise of Led Zeppelin!", This CD will knock you out of your seat!
I don't know who had the great sense to record and market this fantastic live performance but they should be awarded both a Nobel and a Pulitzer. Just listen to the first track ("Celebration Day") and you'll have a sense of the entire brilliant work.
Here we see combined a lot of cuts from both Led Zeppelin II and III, two of my three favorite classic rock albums of all time, by these masters of rock and, WOW, what a ride! There are also cuts from other great Led Zeppelin albums.
The beauty of the songs found herein is that the band/singers stayed VERY close to the original sounds and guitar riff techniques. You'll swear that you're listening to Led Zeppelin in their early days when you hear the guttral, raw essence of these songs. I've been a guitar player for 40 years and this is some very fine work.
I don't buy a lot of live performance albums, especially recent releases, but this one is a big exception to that rule. You can't listen to this one soon enough, folks!

You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy..."page weighs down excellent c.d.", musically this is a wonderful c.d, not hardly a bad song in the bunch and the black crowes are a marvelous band. this c.d. would be 5 stars if not for jimmy pages poor guitar playing, his solos are well thought out and interesting but his fingers won't respond anymore, very sloppy playing with missed notes and woefully out of tune bends. if a young guitarist was listening to jimmy for the first time they would wonder what all the fuss is about. "Jimmy Page&The Black Crowes - 'Live At The Greek' (TVT Records)", Review no.115.I've been wanting to get a copy of this 2-CD release for awhile now.Simply too many new and upcoming titles out there at any given time to get like everything you believe might look good, right?Total of twenty songs here for your listening enjoyment. Many Zeppelin classics like,"Custard Pie","Sick Again","What Is And What Should Never Be","Ten Years Gone","Your Time Is Gonna Come",the jamming "Nobody's Fault But Mine","You Shook Me","Out Of The Titles"(you don't that one everyday)and "Whole Lotta Love".Way to go!No complaints there.Black Crowes have never been one of my favorites anyway, but THIS I like.Sure,it's rekindling the old school Zep scene. But,who cares? It's really nice.Only Black Crowes cut I noticed right off the bat was "Shake Your Money Maker".Sort of relieved they didn't include "Black Dog" or "Rock&Roll".Both are good tunes,it's just I'm sort of burned out on them at the moment.Vocalist Chris Robinson did a decent job of 'filling in' for Robert Plant,I thought.A should-have for most Zeppelin fans. "AWESOME for any Black Crowes and/or Led Zeppelin Fan!!", Fantasic recording. One Of the Best. If you haven't heard it and you are a Led Zeppelin fan, you don't know what you are missing. Buy this Disk TODAY!!!
"Beyond Fantastic!!", I love Led Zeppelin and very much enjoy The Black Crowes and this album blew my @#%! mind!!! The song selection and playing are beyond perfection. This is the best live album released this decade,so far, and is certainly one of my most played albums ever. I take this album to work, on vacation, pretty much everywhere. Definately one of the albums where I got my money's worth and then some. This one is always on my player and never gets tired. The Crowes wiseley avoid the more obvious tracks like "Stairway To Heaven", instead focusing on lesser played deep cuts like "What Is And What Should Never Be", "Out On The Tiles" and old Yardbirds songs like "Shapes Of Things To Come". I first heard of this album when it was only available through The Crowes web site and almost ordered it, but was glad I did not, because when it was released in stores, it had bonus tracks on it. In short, this a must have classic.
"Hey, hey what can I say", Whether you are a Black Crowes, Led Zep fan, or both, this is a great live cd. Sounds like they have been playing with Jimmy Page in the band for years. The selection of songs fuels this release with a live version of "Hey Hey What Can I DO"....the sound quality of the recording is really good and the energy is ever present. Shake your own money maker and buy this release, it's worth it!
