"A JUMP START TO MY WRITING"
I looked to this product to give me a little push and shove into writing more and organizing my thoughts. So far, it has worked out pretty well for me. It has made me consider in more detail my character developments and conflicts. Don't expect it to write for you, but if you are looking for some organization it is well worth the price.

"Junk."
I suggest saving yourself the $34.49 and instead investing in a Bickpen and one of those little black journals we used in school. All this program is good for is keeping a record of character, plot and motivation. Frankly, all you need is a couple pieces of paper for that.

"Restrictive and time-consuming"
The problem with most novel-writing software I've been testing is that they involve a lot of "writing before the writing." While some planning is good, the amount of data entry these programs require detract from getting actual pages written, and the reality is that all those plans will likely change as you write anyway.

This program is no exception. I find all the initial set-up to be cumbersome without yielding benefits that might ultimately actually streamline my process in the weeks or months ahead. (By contrast, for example, Final Draft - a screenwriting program - stores your characters' names so that you only need to type the first few letters and press Enter. You can also toggle your scenes from script to outline and back again without re-entering the information.)

As for the more theoretic stuff, the story prompts are clearly taken from screenwriting which is formulaic due to the time contraints of a film. (For example, the lengths of scenes, act breaks, and total number of pages are far more restrictive to fit a 120-minute film than the scenes, chapters, and total pages of a novel.)

Because a novel can be far longer than a 120-page screenplay, there's little here for creating stories with complex plots, for tracking subplots, or for creating backstory for characters. Instead you get a generic list of 'themes,' some of which are surprising vague.

If you have little or no idea where your story is going yet, or if you're a writer whose work evolves, this program will be more hindrance than help. If you're the meticulous type who likes details of the minutae and rarely deviate from your outline once it's set, this may help you.

"Ironing out the details"
Writer's DreamKit is not hard to use, I simply followed the instructions given at the beginning of each section and kept going. It wasn't easy. I really had to think about my story and characters and if there was a deeper meaning to my story. I had to press through areas that I thought were boring or that I really didn't want to think about and was rewarded with a much better concept and deeper characters that were much more interesting than the motley crew I started out with.

Is it worth the $$$$ I think so. I never was any good at outlining and this program not only helped me out there but helped me create something better and more interesting to outline.

"Just sit down and write."
Want to waste a lot of time when you could be writing your masterpiece? Buy this "program". Face the facts: There simply is no software that's going to write a book for you or anyone else, including me. I screwed around for several days with this thing. Then I got the final print out of "how" I should write my novel. It was impossible for me to follow the "guidelines" provided. They simply did not pertain to the way I wanted to write my story. I tried to imagine some of my favorite books having been written using the generic guidelines the program produced. It assumes that all fiction novel writing is generic and takes the form that the producer of the program dictates. I feel that each and every successful fiction writer has their own individual writing traits and point of view on how they themselves (not F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Mark Twain, John Grisham, etc, etc) should produce a work of art. JUST WRITE! Don't give up. That's my free advice and it's worth more than anything this software has to offer.

What our customer's say!

"Good but confusing", Has some GREAT information contained in it. The concept presented is too encumbersome for me. Well worth the price for the information I gained though.

"Good", It is a very fun and interesting program. It helps you with all the basic mechanics in developing a story. It is wisely advised that beginners use this product as well as anyone who needs to learn the fundamental elements of developing a story.

"Don't Buy This Product: - Buy the Pro. Version or . . .", "Writer's Dreamkit 4" is lacking in features needed by serious writers - or those hoping to become serious writers.

If you are really serious about writing for money, then purchase the more complete version of this software. Or, look over the software publishers full line of programs and purchase the software that will more closely fulfill your particular needs.

Yes, you are on the right track.

"This really helps", I am writing my first book. This program helped me stay organized and focused on the plot.

"Not Worth the Aggravation", Bought this program and couldn't even instll it. I run XP Pro and inserted the CD. I couldn't get passed the "Ket Code" screen, it wouldn't accept the code. Called Tech Support and got nowhere. Sent it back to Amazon for refund. I am sure there are better applications out there. Spend some time looking.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"a little stressful", I think I would have been very pleased with this product except for a problem that developed on my computer after I installed the software. I have windows xp and after I installed the software a serious error occured on my computer. I had never had a problem with my computer before I installed it.

"Not what to be expected!", I bought this because I am an inspiring romance writer. This was an "ok" program. It only lets you write everything you want to put in each scene and then you can print it all out. But if you don't know what you want to write yet, it doesn't give you any ideas or anything. I suggest buying books to help you learn to write instead, and then just using plain old microsoft word!

"Need Help to Focus?", This software actually motivated me to jumpstart my writing. It is designed to help you focus and build the bones of your story. But you have to have an idea of what you are going to write about. Better if you have characters. Using the Dramatica method helps in correlating the characters and plot. So far it has taken me to the point of having an outline of my story and working on my scenes. Take note, you will not write your entire story with this software. You will have to import your scene summaries into a word processing program. This software will not format your manuscript. I recommend the book "Guide to Manuscript Formats" for that. I like this software and the only thing I wasn't happy with are the images available to represent characters. Most of them look so silly that they're annoying. Overall, a good buy - just don't expect miracles. You are still responsible for your own story.

"Delayed Gratification", At first I was skeptical about this product since some of the reviews I read were very negative. Several people seemed furious about what they thought they had purchased. As for myself, I was looking for a program that would help me outline and structure my story. Well, I got that and much more with this DreamKit. The "much more" is a plus, but only after you get used to it since there are many terms to learn. I must admit that my first reaction was not a good one. There's so much to learn and absorb if you're a beginning writer or if you have limited knowledge with the terminology, that it's a real daunting proposition at first.

After a hard day's work, I wound up with 32 Scenes, many with full descriptions which you can shuffle however you like. This program is very flexible and intuitive once you get the hang of it. I'm still learning many things about it, but my main interest was getting help with the outline, and it delivered. The HELP Section is great and the Dramatica Terms Dictionary is very helpful as well.

The bottom line: this program takes a little time to warm-up to but once you do, it's very useful and even fun to use. Beginners will find the almost scientific approach to writing somewhat intimidating, but it's all designed to make the artistic side of writing much more effortless. I suggest that all the disgruntled users take a deep breath and give it another shot. You'll be glad you did.- A. Rios Jr.

"Horrible and hard to get to work on my computer", There are books that are far more creative and interesting and more likely to help a writer get it out and on to the paper. I bought this thinking it would do just that. However it was problematic from the beginning just to get it to work on my com-puter and when it did smooth out a bit I realized why I do not like Hollywood and american movies as a rule: They are canned products.

I do not know what the alternative is but this product is a waste of time and money.
