"Why didn't this game sell better?"
In short, this is one of my all time favorite games (and I play A LOT of games). It combines the action aspects of a 3rd person shooter/adverturing game such as Diablo I/II, and excellently combines it with the strategy of games such as Starcraft or Age of Empires. There are many different ways you can beat the game, making it VERY replayable, I myself have beaten it about 6 times. In addition, it's halarious, has some of the coolest most unique character's I've ever seen, and has a great in-depth story. This is a great game, and every review I've read on it gives it a very high score. This makes me wonder why it never sold better, but I may die not knowing.

"Pretty good game"
What I especially liked about this game is the fact that it's not very linear, you have a certain freedom of chosing your missions. I also liked the design of each level, the terraing is simply amazing with vast fields and great plains. Very fun to explore, very fun to play.
The game is a real-time strategy type of game, much like Starcraft or Warcraft. You basically create troops consisting of various creatures and also "buildings" which are actually mana fountains that replenish your mana. Then you go to battle.

"Worthy of a "Wizard Without a Home's" Time"
I've never played a game so original as Sacrifice. It cannot blow any other games away simply because it is in its own category. We'll call it a Real Time Third Person. In the game, you are Eldred, a wizard lord that has wondered about the planes looking for a world to inhabit (since he unintentionally destroyed his last one). With him is his imp familiar and guide, Zyzyx. He comes upon this world with five bickering gods, each with completly different takes on the world. You, as the player, chose to follow one, or occasionally serve the interests of a couple, of them. You march into war with the 3rd person perspective, spells, and souls. Souls are used to summon troops and spells can do just about anything else. The gameplay of this game is virtually flawless. It gets increasingly hard as you progress, but nothing becomes unbeatable. Patience is important in this game of games though, it takes time and strategy to get places. Beyond the gameplay is the intigueing story, twisted and delightful characters, and passable graphics even now (this was a 2000 release). A great game to get, especially for the price it has dropped to. If you are a gamer, play it for fun, if you are an artist, study the characters and be inspired, if you are a writer, listen to the story and be intrigued. I did all three.

"Sac"
The gameplay is great. Though the graphics my be outdated now, the plot of the game is very entertaining.
Playing the game online could be fun but the online players are emotional wrecks.

"This game is the frigging best PC game I have ever played"
.... and I have played a lot! ... I bought it 2 1/2 years ago and it is the ONLY game that I ever pull back off my shelf to play. And now I have discovered multiplayer action, which is even more compelling.

There is a ton of strategy and the story is very, very interesting. There are 5 gods, and each one bestows upon you different creatures and different spells. You can play the game a thousand times and come out with completely different scenarios, although the end level is always the same. The pace can be frenetic, but it's always interesting and fun. I would recommend this game to anyone. Simply the best ever and I have been playing since the days of Wizardry and Ultima I.

The only drawback is that they are not making a Sacrifice 2. I wish that they would.

"Awkward controls and out-dated gameplay by 2008 standards", This well-reviewed game hasn't withstood the years as well as some other games of the same era (Homeworld comes to mind.) I'm a great fan of strategy games, but I just couldn't get into this game.

The minimap is small and difficult to use, but it becomes a major focus of your game, as the main screen - your third person over-the-shoulder view - really only helps you in the immediate tactical fight you're in. I found it hard to visually distinguish between some types of units, and having to click on them to identify them was quite annoying.

If you're a fan of Battlezone style gameplay, then by all means, give this game a shot. But there is a reason the experimental hybrid strategy-action genre died away in 2001 or so; it just isn't as fun as a pure RTS or pure action game. Instead you've got more successful hybrids flourishing - like grand strategy / RTS hybrids (Star Wars: Empire at War, Sins of a Solar Empire), RPG / Action (Oblivion, Bioshock), or Racing / Action / RPG (Grand Theft Auto.)

"Shiney puts out another winner!!", All I have to say is that this and "Messiah" are my two favorite older games that I played. In fact I'm writing this now becuase I'm going to replay them both in 2007..they are that good..Sacrifice is a must for any gamer..incredible graphics, immersive worlds and characters..can almost match games like World of Warcraft and others of its type in todays gaming world..Buy this game..way worth it!!!

"Very fun and addictive game, unique concepts.", This game is a combination of strategy and action, and a great classic. I've wasted many hours on it. The Macintosh version has some crashing bugs, however.

"Its so Weird its Cool!", I have just one advice to give all the kids out there!Get this game, for Christmas. Its fun, weird, and addictive! :0 trust me on this.
It a little hard to play at first, but once you get the hang of it.
Online is pretty cool to play as well.
Get it NOW!!!

"Oct 2006 and it's still a great game.", I just reloaded and played this remarkable game again and it's still as fun and challenging as it was back a long long time ago. The graphics are still as strong as many of todays standards in my book. In fact it was a game ahead of it's time.

It works on XP by the way.

This is an RTS Adventure Action RPG type of game in my opinion. Each choice takes you in a different direction every mission thru mission 4. You can choose different gods up to this point and then they start to dwindle to only a few choices, some will change you back to good if you are playing evil. There are 10 missions total that I counted. The 10th mission being the grand daddy of them all and if you can beat mission 10 in one setting I will give you a cookie. I remember I beat it years ago, but, I am still having a hard time beating it again now. That's how tough it is. So, if you think you are some RTS guru I challenge you to try and beat it.

This is one of those games that needs a re-release. Not a remake, but, some new advertising and a re-release of what I feel is one of the best rts games out there. I hate rts games for the most part, but, this one is not like all the others. The resource gathering is where you are, you have to collect souls from the dead creatures of your opponent and your own souls as well from your dead creatures. There's only a couple of buildings to build (one for more energy and one for creating creatures closer to where you are on the map), there's no need for peasants or gathering wood or gold or iron or any of that silliness. It's 100% action "where you are".

Creating an army is nothing more than clicking a hotbutton provided you have the energy and the number of souls required to build them. Once again you create them where you are. You want a dragon, press hotkey and in a few seconds (spell time to cast) wallah you have a dragon where you are. You also have these little funny looking guys called nanowhores who as long as they are with you and near you will stream energy from your manoliths (this is one of the contstuction buildings) to you faster than if you didn't have them. They are really important and if they die you won't gain energy as fast to cast your spells or collect enemy souls.

One of the greatest aspects of the game is your army formations. There's so many different ways you can use it. Each unit can be told to do a specific formation for you or for any other unit. For instance I could put one strong unit in Phalanx (sp) behind me and then phalanx another unit or units behind that unit. I would usually do this to keep my manawhores well behind and out of the battle. Then you can put units in skirmish mode that will go out in front of you, then you can skirmish more units in front of those and skirmish more in front of those and on an on. You could have a continuous line of units skirmied in front of one another. You can also do line formations and semi circles and complete circles. It's unbelieveable all the different types of formations you can setup. You can also tell units to stand/guard at a specific spot, they don't always have to be in the formation. You can hotkey them in groups as well just like most rts games and give them group orders. Since many have "special abilities" it's a good idea to keep them in their own groups.

It uses the good ole rock paper scissors format in combat. And you will have to deal with superior forces from about mission 4 onward. But, if you use careful strategy and tactics you can overcome the odds in all the missions, even the 10th one.

The single player multiplayer aspect of the game is just as good. You can pick maps, even make your own and the AI is daunting and challenging in everyone of them. It's fast and relentless and it uses a progression feature thru out the mission. You'll start off with level 1-3 units then progressively go up to level 9 units. So, if you like challenging AI's this game will give it to you in the skirmish mode of play.

This game is a STEAL nowadays with the price that it is. It certainly is equal to anything being delivered out there in the RTS genre today in fun and challenge. I recommend this to anyone who might have an interest in rts and even those who HATE RTS, this is one of those I even think you will enjoy. It's just that much fun and so different from anything else out there.

I really don't understand why this game wasn't popular back when released. It was so far ahead of it's time in the way it plays. I guess the marketing wasn't strong enough or the player feedback. There were lots of rts games saturating the market at that time. It just got overlooked and shouldn't have imho. Give it a try now, you'll be glad you added it to your gaming library.

"One of the most original games I have ever played", Can't decide what type of genre you want to play? Role playing? Strategy? Action?

Whatever your preference, this game is for you. Intelligently, it uniquely combines all aspects of all genres so that you're pretty much commanding a small army up close and personal. I'm surprised that this game never got to be well known.

It's a shame that this game is pretty much unheard of; All who have played it seemed to immensely enjoy it. I sometimes wish this game was more popular than it was.

"Extremely entertaining RTS game", This is the best 3D RTS game I have ever played. Spectacular graphics and sound effects even two years after it was released. As a wizard you control your creatures across vast landscapes of magical 3D worlds to battle with other wizards. You earn access to spells and creatures along the way depending on which god you serve in a particular world. Each creature possesses special traits and powers.

Trying different offensive and defensive strategies is what makes the game so much fun. I recommend fast hardware if you are like me and want ALL the detail settings at "insane", like a P4 Northwood and a DirectX 8.1, 64/128MB video card.

Ever thought you could be pulled up in a tornado and still live to win the fight? In Sacrifice you can.

If anyone at Shiny is reading....Sacrifice 2!

"A accurate reveiw", I have played many games for the PC and this is a very good one. The graphics are stuning and the environment and storyline are superb. There are some problems though. This game is among the hardest I've ever played. In it I'm just able to get past the first two misions until I used cheats though. There are many different ways to begin this game and end it but also you need a very good graphics card or everything will be in blue and gray. But if you have a good graphics card and are up for hour of fun and challenging play, this is a must buy

"Breathtaking and Brilliant in Every Way", Sacrifice is a real-time strategy game with expanded capabilities. Fully 3D environments, with some of the most incredible graphics of it's time make up only a small portion of it's impressive arsenal. This game successfully bridges the gap between strategy and action gaming.

MyStats:

.A complex, dinamic story line executed marvelously in all elements: voice acting, plot twists, and an incredibly flexible course of action throughout gameplay which affects your decisions...forcing you to make hard choices which in turn result in different rewards. The dialogue is incredibly written.

.The music is brilliant. In fact I'd almost go so far as to say this is the best soundtrack for game and film alike. It's not like me to say this lightly either. I'm always severely aware of the music in any media. Sacrifice surpasses all else with it's beautifully constructed symphonic orchestral soundrack, worthy of the highest praise. Rendered smoothly, and meticulously complex in design, Incredibly intense battle sequences complemented by surreal soundscapes for the quiet moments. I found myself getting lost in the music and completely conformed to it's will.

.The gameplay is equally enthralling. Controlling your armies becomes second nature...and I, personally, had no trouble learning how to guide them, as so many other reviews will say. I found the design very straightforward and easy to get the hang of.
Over the course of the game, your wizard becomes more and more powerful, according to the arts of your chosing. You may serve one of five gods. Ultimately you can only please one, so chose wisely. By pleasing a specific god you gain the knowledge he/she is willing to pass to you at the level you'r currently at. As you may have guessed, this allows for a completely different game each time you play it, as you may serve the god of slaughter at one time, or the goddess of life another, or any of the gods inbetween.
The game is beautifully designed with magnificent concepts...rendered to perfection. Astounding use of strategy and action/adventure melded into one game. Did I mention it's fun as hell?
The game was clearly influenced by Dante's Inferno...which is a great work of the horror of imagination. But as to where Dante's vision of pergatory and paradise recede in multitude and thus in value, Sacrifice does not. The game is beautiful in it's ethereal realms.

.The graphics and imagery are astounding. If you have a high end system this game is a god send....if you still stick to old ways, the game is still playable and smooth. Many have critisized the game for having such high demands on system resources. But these setting were meant to keep the game from being outdated. And here we are in the future of this game, and I doubt as many people would dare critisize the need for 800mhz and 128RAM now. So be silent you wraiths! begone. This game is worthy of the highest praise available.

All in all, there are a million reasons this game is great and no reasons to state otherwise. The imagery and concepts are very well thought out and expertelly executed. The magnificent music, powerful gameplay, stunning conclusions, immense choices all add up to the best game of 2000, along with "Giants: Citizen Kabuto" which I aslo highly recommend. This game is fresh and innovative, brilliantly new and mastered into perfection.

"Great strategy/RPG/magic game", I really enjoyed Sacrifice quite a lot. The plot is very interesting, and the player is able to make choices along the way that affect the game play. There are a variety of creatures to do battle with, and figuring out the best ways to complete each given task is a great deal of fun.

I found the game to be very stable, the graphics of excellent quality, and the soundtrack very enjoyable. The "Latin" spoken in the spells is somewhat silly, but forgiveable. The tutorial provided with the game is an excellent way to learn the somewhat complex controls, but once they become habit, whipping through like a pro is no problem at all.

The grande finale is a bit tiresome, but overall, I have very few complaints with the game, and will assuredly run through it again, even though I've played it several times already. It's a little difficult to classify...somewhere between strategy/fantasy/RPG/something else. One commands one's "troops" strategically, but there are obvious fantasy and RPG elements, too. It's a very nice, complex game.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys sorcery stuffs.
