"Pretty good."
I own all the titles within here, Collector Editions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter, and have X-Wing VS Tie Fighter, but I heard in this package the two previous games carried X-Wing VS Tie Fighter engine viewage... but I'm not so sure.......

"An old favorite returns"
X-Wing was a truly fun and challenging game when it first came out, and now its even better. Upgraded graphics make the game more realistic and the movie soundtracks are a great improvement over the synthetic soundtrack of old. This is definitely one of the best pilot games of all time.

My only complaint is the lack of realistic situations in some scenarios. As you proceed, you will find yourself piloting a lone ship assigned to take on a virtual armada of enemy ships. If any commander routinely sent his pilots into such ridiculous situations, he'd soon find his pilots defecting en masse.

The saving grace is the number of non-storyline missions available. When you find yourself defeated for the 20th time on a certain level (and you will) it's nice to have these non-storyline missions available. Another saving grace is that when your character gets killed, you can resurrect him/her and pick up where you left off.

"An ageless game"
I bought this game for my 486 years ago, back when the game had to be installed from a floppy diskette. The gameplay is second to none. No game since this one has kept me up at night, formulating different strategies in order to succeed in a previous mission failure. The amount of detail in this game blows my mind comparing it to other, more "asthetically pleasing" modern games. The level of difficulty is very, very high; however, I never became so frustrated as to give up, only to try harder. Hands down, my favorite videogame of all-time. This one even tops Diablo II, folks.

"My Favorite Game"
Tie Fighter is my favorite game. Of course, that means little without knowing me. I'm 33. I got my Atari 2600 when I was 8, and my first computer (Timex/Sinclair ZX81) when I was 10. I used to regularly steal $20 bills from my mother's purse to spend hours at the arcade. (P.S. -- Haven't seen HyperBall in along time. A very nifty mechanical game.)

I believe popular video games began a downward spiral with the sad arrival of Doom.

Nowadays, I still have a working Atari 2600 adapter for my ColecoVision. I have a nice collection of KOEI games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I have nearly 2000 arcade machine ROMs on my computer.

It is my opinion that Dungeons of Daggorath was the most innovative video game, ever. It is my opinion that Tie Fighter is the best video game, ever. It's sad that nothing better has come along in the 10 years past its release.

"Oh...My...God"
Concerning X-wing

I remember getting this game for my birthday way the heck back in 1992. The missions were so fun and CHALLENGING now this is a word that most people in the computer game industry seem to have forgotten. The appeal of this game for me was that because it took so much time to complete(I think I managed it in 2 years) the victories were all the swetter when you won.

Nowadays you can just type in a cheat code and skip to the end well keep in mind that such a thing did not exist on the old DOS machines.

X-wing was the first but later on Lucas-arts improved the engine by adding TIE FIGHTER (that's right a game where you play on the side of the Imperials) this also provides some very challenging missions but can be beaten with much more ease that anyone could ever beat x-wing. Still fun, just as enjoyable

Now X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter brings us relatively up to date combing elements of both games what you have is a game that is more useful for multiplayer than single player missions. This is finally where the age of this type of game in this type of format began to show. Most of the missions in this game were just repeats of the same missions in X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Although the graphics are better and there are one or two missions that provide a great level of enjoyment.

If any of you old dogs out there are still using 98 or 95 pick up a piece of gaming history and get a copy of this package.

What our customer's say!

"The best", Simply put : 3 of the best space flying games ever made. All they need to do is revamp the format to work on XP and Vista without issue and Lucasarts will draw in a whole new generation of gamers. You want a classic space flying game with a great story line from a movie, buy this set. You won't regret it. Easy to learn the controls and easy to play. Hours of fun no matter your taste. Rebellion or Empire, the choice is yours.

"Suberb game.", X-Wing and TIE Fighter are definitely the best Star Wars games ever made. Absolutely. And this package has those both with all expansions and additional missions in same package. And top of that, both have enhanced graphics. Unfortunately they are not even at the level of X-Wing Alliance, but they are at least better than the original. The resolutions is 640x480 which is unbeatable compared to old 320x240 graphics. Music is real audio instead of some miserable midis. Many have complained about the lack of iMuse as in original DOS-versions, but I don't. If you don't have any versions of these games, but you like them, this is a HAVE TO BUY game.

The third game is worthless, and I haven't even tried that, so I'm not gonna say anything else about that. It's merely a bonus game, which you can toy with a while. It's not an actual game with story or anything.

Oh, and by the way, these both (XW+TF) DO work in Vista or XP, just use the compatibility mode from the properties, if you have problems.

"A HUGE hit with my son!", I purchased this game for my son, who asked for this game specifically. After opening all of his gifts, he rated this game as his number 1 favorite gift! I appreciate the integrity of the individual from whom i purchased the gift from, as this was my first experience of buying from Amazon in this fashion, and I had been skeptical of the honesty of purchasing this way. I am convinced now! and I thank you!

"You have to love its longevity", I first played this game when I was in grad school in '93 on a roommate's computer, as a way to blow off steam during the week. It was very enjoyable then. So much so, I bought the X-wing expanded versions (with Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing) a few years later for my own computer, and then the whole collectors' series back in '00 (with the revamped graphics and music).

I had given that copy of the game to a fella in Australia, and eight years later, I've bought another copy to play on the machine I currently have. This is a period of time spanning 15 years (and four operating systems)! That's a testimony to the enjoyability of the game.

Other games have gotten technically more intricate, but oftentimes the current tech is exploited just for the sake of mere "eye candy." The fellows at Lucasarts really came up with a simple but effective combination of action and story to create a long-lasting winner with this one. It captures the essence of the original Star Wars trilogy very well.

3D hardware enabling is a little tricky with modern OSs, but happily, you can find fixes for this on some of the X-wing-related forums online. But even failing that, the software rendering is decent (made up for by the gameplay), and the majority of today's machines can well handle it.

"Old but classic. Still the best Star Wars flight games you can play.", I don't think there have been any other games that come close to the depth and richness of these games for simulating the "Star Wars" flight experience that we saw in the movies. Action games like Rogue Squadron and Starfighter are fun, but they're watered-down "set pieces" that run on rails when compared to this series. X-Wing was great, and TIE Fighter blew away everyone's expectations for what a space dogfighting game could be.

This collection isn't perfect - the resolution maxes out at 640x480, the 3D support is rudimentary, it's a pain to get it working with Windows XP or newer systems, and the CD music isn't as charming as the original dynamic MIDI soundtrack. Also missing from X-Wing is the option to assign wingmen to fly with you -- a minor omission, but a shame it wasn't included.

Does it hold up today? Not so well -- but these have been re-released so many times that we're probably not going to get an update of this old design ever again, so this is the best way to play the old dogfighting games if you have any interest. The price is certainly right!

"would be more fun if wasn't so difficult", this is one of the older games that are still around, but, unlike the other oldies, this one now has Direct-X 3D acceleration. It also has Lucas Arts premium sound effects , so if you've never played a Star Wars game, this is as good a place to start as any.

You get a manual, a quick reference guide and 2 CD-ROMs containing a total of 3 titles: "X-Wing", "Tie Fighter" and "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter: Flight School" (a demo of an improved title).

this was the first game(s) I ever bought and was hoping for a good space flying/shooting sim that's fun and not too difficult. I got half of what I wanted...it looks good and the tutorials are fun and simple, but like most of these type games, most of us can only finish the first 2 levels before being inundated with unenjoyably heavy fleets and relentless laser fire.

"Awesome", I can't believe how fun an old game can be. Sure, the graphics are a little dated, but the gameplay is unbeatable. This Collecter Series is a really great deal that saves a lot of money because if you only buy one of the games you'll end up wanting to play the others too. So buy it today!

"X Wing Collector Series", Fun game, but I only received half of it. It includes 2 CD-ROMs, and I only got the 1st CD.

"one of the best games ive played", sure the graphics arent as good as modern day fancy stuff , but hey its all about game play and it being star wars just gives it automatically 3 stars , i used to play the one for dos not the cd rom version the diskette dos version religeously when i was a kid this was the greatest game known to me the storyline and the 3 best ships , i hear theres a b-wing in the new cd-rom wich im getting tomorow that even adds to it , george lucas is a genious and this game is a masterpeice therefore getting a 5 star rating

"If you have brain cells, you need this game.", X-Wing was great, I had the floppy disk original. Super-challenging but not so frustrating, with gameplay that was nothing short of engrossing. 7 years later, without playing it at all, many different computers and gone through dozens of other PC games and console games, I still find myself thinking back to many of those missions, what tactics I should use, thinking of the names of those damn shuttles, transports and corvettes that the Empire kept blowing up. And TIE Fighter was also as enjoyable, throwing many many new features into the mix. More ships, no shields or hyperdrive, interchangeable warheads and better targeting data. The intricacy of these games is nothing short of mind-blowing, they will truly change the way you look at video games.
