"The straw that broke the camel's back" I am a huge fan of the pencil and paper RPG, and was very excited to see this conversion. In the interests of simplifying the game (why would you want to I do not know), the creators modified the experience-point and atribute steps. They have also included Diablo-style magic weapons and items, the effects of which are more subtle than those in Diablo, but somehow detract from the WoD mood. In good news, the vampiric disciplines are converted almost flawlessly (except for why do Brujah have protean???), and in this aspect the game far surpasses its successor, Vampire the Masquerade bloodlines. The game is split up somewhat unevenly between dungeon crawl-type sequences and dialogues that serve to advance a complicated and well-written story line. You get relatively litle control of the dialogues and their outcomes, and as previously mentioned, combat is just a mess. Party members unleash their most powerful disciplines on rats and spiders attacking them, and are constantly clamoring for blood. This would have been resolved if there was a way to pause the combat and issue orders, instead of leaving everything to the piss-poor AI. The new patch corrected the problems with save-games, but combat is poorly executed, and since it makes up 90% of this game, it can be very frustrating. By the end I would just cast presence, draw the baddies one-by one, and drain them. This is a repetitive and booring process, especially in the context of the well developed skill trees that the characters have. The graphics definately stand the test of time, and are very creative in some ways. Look closely in the silver mines: the texture of the walls is not just stone, but is actually evil faces staring back at you- very unusual and kind of creepy. Its also quite fun viewing the world from first-person perspective.
With the ability to pause combat this game would have been great. As such it is a fine product with much time and energy obviously invested into its development, but which is difficult to play and like, despite the engrossing story line.
"Flawed AI brings a potentially excellent game down to average." This game has a lot of good things going for it.
The graphics were really great for its time, and even now still look good...at least on the main characters. The story, while not great, is still far above the average for a videogame. The same can be said about the voice acting.
And probably most importantly, the game is *fun*. Or at least it starts out that way. By the time you get a 3-4 character party, the game's horrible AI and pathfinding are irritatingly obvious.
For starters, you have the choice between your allies sitting there doing nothing while you're in a fight, or them running off on their own through half the level in search of something to fight (and biting off more than they can chew and dying). Babysitting them is extremely tedious, especially when you switch to control one from running off on his own, only to have another one do the exact same thing.
Pathfinding is awful. Going around a corner and through a door and getting your entire party to go along is more difficult than any boss in the game (and some of them are fairly difficult). On top of it, your allies will buff themselves with every spell they have (consuming blood...one of the resources you have to maintain at a decent level or suffer bad consequences/death) at the sight of so much as a rat. There is an option to make it so they only auto-cast from a short list of spells (that you choose), but apparently the option is bugged and doesn't work.
In the end, I found it easier to go through a level with just one character. I left the rest behind, only using them to store equipment and for boss encounters. That's how bad it is.
It's a shame because the character advancement system is very customizeable, and I would have liked to play the game multiple times to try things different each time. However the annoying AI has sapped any replayability the game might have held.
"Get the patch first" Overall, I would say I loved this game. The plot was great, the world and characters richly developed both visually and plot-wise. You begin as a crusader in the middle ages, and become a vampire, the demon you once fought. The game continues into modern times as Christof still searches for his love, Anezka. The weapons and powers are interesting, although most weren't of much use. Towards the end especially you got a lot of extra experience you could place in any old thing. The guide was helpful and detailed; the pictures were also beautiful. And it was helpful, not confusing. I liked how the game included a variety of places and characters.
The glitches I came across included a horrible save feature (you got an auto-save every time you went into a new world, but you could only save directly from your haven). Also, occasionally you would be clicking away, moving with your main character, and the ones following would get trapped up, sometimes getting 'stuck' in walls or tables. Most times I just had to manually select them and redirect them, but then there were those tiring times when I had to go out of the level to get them unstuck. By the way, the first time I had a patch from online where you could save from any place and the glitches were fixed.
Sometimes, also, the dialogue could get tiring. You could use the space bar to skip it but then you lose the great plot aspect. The one thing I liked about its sequel, Bloodlines, was that you could do something so that the dialogue appeared as words...and you could go along at your reading pace. And, there were several members of the coterie that were pretty pointless, just extra arms to fight, I guess.
This game was a lot of fun; you are pretty much locked into one plot line but there are a few different endings. Great game, get the patch first.
"Overall great game" In this game we find a new storyline among the vampire world that is brought to life in this tale. However, the saving of the games in progress are horrible and sometimes it doesn't save and a whole section needs to be redone because of it. Although, that part is a CON for the game, the Pro for the game is that you get to see a character move through history and his way of trying to gain some sort of redemption for himself because of what he is.
"a vampire's tale" this game is pretty good. it isn't exactly the best but then again no games are. as an RPG, this game is fairly standard. the first hour or so is really boring, but once you become a vampire, things pick up rather nicely. i LOVE how you have vampiric abilities and are able to feed off whomever you see fit. this is the ultimate game for anyone who wants to live out their dream as a vampire. the story is good. the thing that i hate are the other characters in your team, maybe it's me, but the were annoying and got in the way. they didn't have terrible path finding, but they had some awkward moments. another thing that bothered me is that if you don't have control of A character, they usually go off attacking some monsters you might not be ready to attack, due to the nature of their vampiric ways or the character's build. overall, this game is fairly exciting, with something nice for lovers of RPGs and lovers of vampires.

Why I buy this one ?
- Live as the Undead: As Christof, a vampire of the Brujah Clan, you must fight and feed on the blood of mortals, while hiding your vampiric powers and controlling the urges of the beast within you. Along the way, you are joined by other vampires who will fight by your side as you solve a series of quests surrounding a deep story.
- Powerful 3-D Engine: Your World of Darkness is created by the Nod Engine, developed by Nihilistic. Dramatic lighting, fog effects and gorgeous textures bring the medieval cities of Prague and Vienna to life, and twist the modern landscape of London and New York into a gothic nightmare.
- Innovative Multiplayer Design: Vampire: The Masquerade-Redemption will change the way computer RPGs are played online with its Storyteller mode, which allows one player to create and run an adventure of their own. Multiplayer features include co-op play, and the option to play as the hunter or the hu

What our customer's say!
"severly lacking, even considering its old age", this game is old, ill give it that, but its still no where near as entertaining as its followup game, bloodlines, which is actually very fun and has a decent replay factor. This game engine, along with dynamics and over all suckage makes for a waste of money. even for a walking down video game memory lane.
"Take off the Goth fanboy goggles", I'm not terribly sure what drives people ga-ga over the gameplay in Vampire: The Maquerade Redemption. I assume the game's popularity has more to do with atmosphere and subject matter than anything. I didn't enjoy the actual play very much.
The box art and cutscenes might mislead unsuspecting players into thinking Vampire is an epic RPG or even a first-person adventure. It's neither. While the story, conversations, and character development are engaging, the game itself is an old-style isometric hack and slash. Which is fine, when that particular system is implemented competently. Here it only occasionally works. Too much of Vampire's environments consist of narrow hallways and blind corridors where enemies and allies alike jam themselves into environmental wedges, run headlong into adversaries, and generally act in manners directly against common sense. Level design is pretty, well detailed, and enhances the mood of the game, but it is amateurish in terms of interactivity. This would be a minor flaw if, again, the meat of the game weren't the combat itself. Yes, there are many RPG elements like character leveling and the often fun experiments with trinkets and baubles picked up at the local shops, but the fun bits devolve into frustration whenever a member of your crew runs headfirst into a gaggle of bloodsuckers, despite your commands.
The story nearly makes the gameplay endurable. I didn't know much about Vampire's universe, and was intrigued by the "vampire mafioso" storyline. Rather than preying on innocent damsels in distress, Vampire's protagonists are a human-sympathetic clan at war with other more sinister vampire families. The story unfolds through fairly taut and convincing (for a video game) dialogue, and the occasional cutscene. I was never bored with the story progression, and my curiosity about the next winding turn kept me playing for a good while. Eventually the infuriatingly clumsy and often poorly balanced gameplay soured the experience for me though.
If you're a huge fan of this game's particular universe, and simply MUST know how the story goes, then Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption may be worth the effort. Just be prepared for the headaches.
"vtm:r", well the game its self is good but old the gameplay is restricting wich gives it a chalange the ai is not very smart but it is old and over all its worth playing for the story line and multiple endings
"the game is awesome but volcano games stinks", Vampire is a great game, bridging several hundred years and some great elements from the role play version. Volcano games was a nightmare though, after I posted my negative feedback they refused to send a working version until Amazon got involved. All in all, buy the game, but not from volcano games.
"Disturbing, Dark and terrible language", You know a game is "bad" when your teenage son voluntarily removes it from the computer and describes it as "disturbing and dark". If video games were "returnable", this one would definitely be returned. My son said the game was not very much fun and that it was a "sad failure of a game".

Read this reviews before You buy..."About Editing Vampire TMR", I will not talk about the game playing, many others had already gave their opinion in detail about that. I prefer to talk about the Editing Tools of the game (NODSDK Tools: NOT editor, Embrace editor, Chronicle editor). This game was offered with the complete java code opened (except the graphic engine), you can manipulate, change and create many new things, like skins for your multiplayer characters (NOT editor and any graphical tool), new maps as playing scenaries (Embrace tool), new objects, creatures and items (NOT editor and programs like Milkshape), create new automatic or manual Quests that can be played in multiplayer (Chronicle editor) and, what is more interesting, they can be created new versions of the game (MODs) that make the game better than the original. Much of the problems commented by users in this review list have been completely revised and corrected time ago by the players with their efforts (Activision released a patch to correct some bugs, but after that, abandoned the game to the player community). One of the most interesting MOD is the WOD MOD (World of Darkness MOD) that recreates almost exactly the P&P game. The game has more than 4 years old, but it continously grows with the contributions of many people that play it and love it. Nowadays you can find lots of new materials in the web (www.vampdepobloodlines.com is a good place to visit and test part of the inmense contributions accumulated). This fact makes this game one of the richest games in Role playing, as it has been sustained by a player community working in an open code. "If you love vampires", This game is such a wonderful game. It's funny when you suck someone's blood they moan. LOL. The story line is awesome. However, it is true that when you're online creating a story with other players it depends on how good the people who are hosting their own room are for that to be good. However, you can create your own storyline so if you don't like other people's rooms make your own!! I LOVE THIS GAME!! I want it to come out with a sequel sooooo bad!! I beat the game and I LOVED IT!! There are three different endings!!! I won't tell you what they are I'll just say please!!! SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE YOU BEAT THE LAST BAD GUY IN THE GAME!!!!! That way you can see the other two endings... How to get the Ultra Happy Ending: Make sure your humanity is REALLY HIGH!!!! The Okay ending: Below 50 Humanity Bad bad ending: This may or may not be a spoiler I don't know, but to get a BAD ending say yes to the offer the bad guy gives you.
"too many problems with online multiplayer(DON'T WORK)", The game is fine if you just want to play single player or over a LAN. Online multiplayer apparently is no longer supported in any form or manner. Activision does not even give answers to problems with online either. The official activision website for this game; The links do not work. The game has been abandoned by the manufacturer, developers and everyone it seems. Save your money and don't support activision. Don't buy this game if you could ever possibly want to play it online with friends. Cuz you can't.
"Great little action/rpg game", This game has its terrific moments but is also mired by a few setbacks that keep it from 5 stars. The graphics, storyline, cut scenes, weapons, armor, spells, and characters that join your party are all wonderful. Even 3 years after its release these all hold up to todays games. And the manual is terrific. It is chock full of drawings, storys, and other little extras that many manuals dont have. However, the pathfinding will make you pull your hair out. In tight passages you will have to control and position each of your party members. Another short coming is the unbalanced difficulty. You might be plowing through a dungeon effortlessly only to be walloped by the boss in 2 hits. All in all this game can be bought for pocket change now and will definitely give you your moneys worth.
"A perfect "vampire romance"", Do you like vampires?Did you ever wish to become one?How many games do you know where you can feel what it is like to be a vampire? Redemption brings us to the XII century, I believe, where our first and main character - knight Christoff is falling in love with a nun Anezka, who saved his life after he was terribly injured during the war.But the things arent that simple - at the time while Christoff is killing some vampires, who terrorized Prague, he becomes an object for a few different vampire clans.Yes, vampires arent just some savage creatures, they live like people, in different groups, clans, and laws (for the further introduction to that I suggest you to read some info on the tabletop game Vampire the Masquerade). So one of the vampire clans (a "good" one) decides to make Christoff an immortal vampire- a part of them, before he gets killed by the "evil" others. That causes our hero even more troubles, since it is totally impossible for a vampire and a nun to be together forever. And he wanders off into the dark night. But Anezka doesnt give up, leaves the monastery and goes on the search for Christoff, and ,of course, ends up captive in the opposite vampire group. So our goal is to find her.But thats not going to be easy.During the game Cristoff meets other vampires, who willingly join him, but you never know who to trust, the vampire world is full of traitors and intrigues as well! The gaming process consists of two parts. The first one is located in Prague and Vienne, still old times. And the second part is London/NY just before the coming new year 2000. Pros- great plot, 3 different endings (depending on the character's humanity level),beautiful music and voiceover with different accents. Cons - other characters in the party tend to act pretty stupid sometimes, walking in the walls,or not really helping much in the battles. The original "Masquerade" idea is a bit wrong, since the characters from different clans dont have their 'special' magic. The saving system is upsetting, the game saves automatically everytime you enter a new level. But the enemies\things dont re-appear when you re-enter the level. The gameplay is "point and click", no, not a quest. But you have to click for everything.
In total, it is a good vampire action rpg for people who love vamps and good stories with a twist;)
