"Great for Newbies"
Frontpage is great if you live in a MS bubble. You need not any knowledge of programming or development. For true web beginners that never want to learn how the internet works this is your "pay dirt". What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG), that's all folks. If you ever plan to learn real HTML, JavaScript, XML, DHTML, PHP, or if your wesite requires any kind of good database connectivity, forget MS Frontpage. If your into designing and developing dynamically generated websites or e-commerce enabled websites, look elsewhere. I would suggest taking a look at the free demo version of HomeSite 4.5 before you pad Mr. Gates pockets. What's with all the "vti" folders anyway, why can't they just use FTP like the rest of the world...

"Blah"
Microsoft just needs to stop. I bought this for my office at the request of my employer. Before I discovered Dreamweaver. It churns out too much proprietary code. As a result, if you later go back to edit a page with another WYSIWYG editor, things go kaplooey. Spend the money on Macromedia's Dreamweaver.

"Still you need HTML!"
Untill now i couldn't find web publishing program that give you clean html code. I used frontpage 98 for more than 1 year and i found it better than others like Dreamweaver. It has the same interface for all microsoft application which saves your time to understand each icon and its funtion. When i tried frontpage 2000 i like its interface more but i don't think there is a big differences between it and the old version 98. With all frontpage (98 and 2000) you need to know a bit about HTML in order to make clean-coded pages with less bugs. I like the integration between Office software with frontpage 2000 , in which you can easily publish information stored in an Access database or Excel spreadsheet. I hope Microsoft will improve manipulation with tables, because i really need to check the HTML code to organize any table i did in frontpage. Another thing, for arab users, you can not highlight the right arabic text in frontpage 2000 editor i.e if u try to highlight any word the editor will higlight another word!!! which is very annoying thing (you should use the HTML code to manipulate any word!!) So, Stick with your frontpage 98 if you want to design arabic pages.

"Great for Beginning Web Designers"
Microsoft Front Page 2000 is great for anyone just beginning to design personal web pages. It is also practical for more advanced use as well, but I feel it is better suited for smaller website design projects. It is very easy to cut, paste, arrange, and redesign existing web pages with FrontPage. FrontPage will allow even the newest beginner to website design to put together exciting web pages without even knowing how to use HTML code, although a basic knowledge of the HTML language would be helpful and can be learned through trial and error use with FrontPage. (Note: For anyone looking for the most up to date version of FrontPage, FrontPage 2002 is due out from Microsoft later this year.)

"Excellent product------ No doubt about it."
Hi, Whoever says, Site designed with Frontpage will not show perfect in Netscape are not knowing FrontPage 2000 completely. Frontpage 2000 has settings for Browsers as well as servers. If you set these options, the you will not have single item on your site which will not show perfectly in Netscape. Front Page 2000 is a product for 90% of the peoples' requirement. "VERY POWERFUL IF YOU KNOW HOW!!", A lot of people have blasted this software, saying that it's a kid's toy and you can't actually do anything with it. One person even said it's easier to code in html. All these people, in my opinon, have a hate complex about Microsoft, and refuse to actually dip into the program and see it's powers, that you won't find until you spend more than 5 looking at it [and giving off].
This program, in the right and experienced hands, is incredibly powerful. I am a professional who uses both Frontpage and Dreamweaver on occassion, and I must say I prefer Frontpage. I find it more usable, and quicker, and produces the same results with greater ease.
Frontpage is a great program, for beginners, intermediates, and professionals. Sadly, it isn't suitable for people who don't want to learn. Or people who like to bring down good programs because they are too arrogant to learn how to use them properly.

"Great if you want to get a site up and running quickly", I was able to get a functional website up and running in an afternoon with Frontpage -- it is very intuitive and easy to use. It is even useful if you subsequently graduate to more complex software, like Dreamweaver, because you can establish the basic site with Frontpage and then edit the HTML with Dreamweaver to add further bells and whistles. No regrets at all, with this purchase.

"Microsoft FrontPage 2000", Microsoft FrontPage 2000 is a fantastic webpage creator/HTML editor. Before purchasing my copy of FrontPage 2000, I was using Adobe GoLive 5. What I especially liked about FrontPage 2000 was the ease of use. If you have ever used a Microsoft Office product before, you can learn FrontPage with relative ease. FrontPage brings templates (such as online forms) to you, which other products do not. There is a downside for FrontPage, and that is for some of the more advanced features the host server will need to have FrontPage extensions installed on it. You should check this with your host before purchasing. This is becoming less of a problem, however, because more and more hosts are installing these extensions. If you don't mind moving your site, you could always move it to a host with these extensions anyway. This is one product, I would highly recommend.

"One of the Best Web Design Programs!", I have had some pretty stinkers for web programs when I just started out. So I really wished I had gotten this first. When I got it I was really impressed how easy it was to learn. It was hard a little at first, but once I got the hang of using it I loved it. I have made a few great sites with it. My friend even designed a site for me and with my Frontpage program I was able to edit with Microsoft Frontpage to keep updating the site. And now it's one of my best sites! So I would definately get Frontpage 2000 if your just starting out or again if your a professional web designer :)

"For Inexperienced User's Only!", Microsoft makes some great technologies for the web. But Frontpage is a product aimed for the home user that should not have any place in professional web development. Frontpage extensions(a server side technology that does things like process forms) doens't work well when it does work and can be a pain to administer. Frontpage writes much IE specific code and will automatically put in features that only Frontpage will support. Microsoft has some great server side technologies such as ASP,SQL Server, and IIS.....but for an editor don't use Frontpage, look into something more professional such as Dreamweaver.

"One of Microsoft's best software packages and fun to use", I tried several webpage packages (notably HotMetal Pro) and I have to say, FrontPage is by far the easiest, most intuitive and powerful software in its class.

In no time I had a webpage up and running. Maintaining it is easy, too. Setting up the navigation scheme is simple. There are nice art themes included, and they aren't hard to modify, either. So you can get an attractive webpage published very quickly with FrontPage.

It has some quirks. Netscape, forget it. And some of the free webpage hosting sites have trouble with FrontPage's web publishing protocol. This means you have to upload the pages one by one with FTP (file transfer protocol.) And you may not be able to some of the features of the themes like CSS. This doesn't bother me a lot, as it is really more a problem of the hosting site, not FrontPage.

The package also allows easy use of ActiveX controls, plug-ins, and Java applets, and normal scripting for fancy stuff on graphics-heavy webpages (careful, as these slow down loading time for many visitors. Know your audience.) If you are going to get heavily into scripts, ActiveX, plug-ins and more, including Flash, better to go into something like Dreamweaver, where you get more control over what goes into the HTML coding.

If you want more than a casual homepage as can be designed by such hosting providers as Geocities, this is definitely the package to use. It's fun, too. (When was the last time you could say that about a software package other than a game?)

"Easy, but clunky.", I have designed many websites over the past years with FrontPage 98/2000. The program is easy to use and fairly intuitive. Unfortunately, it has some MAJOR drawbacks: 1) FP2000 isn't Netscape compatible. What works beautifully in Explorer has the potential to look like a mess in Netscape. I don't know if that's Microsoft's way of snubbing Netscape...but it's a hassle. 2) The layout tables are 'stiff'. In a webpage you use tables to keep your content in place, and while FP has an easy to use table tool, it's very clunky. You can't place certain images in seperate cells because they 'offset' each other. Additionally, it is nearly impossable to customize a table to fit your text correctly...making the formatting of text a pain in the neck. 3) FP extensions are easily corrupted. For some reason the FrontPage extensions at my ISPs servers corrupt often, therefore I have to call them and get them reinstalled.

Other than those concerns FP is a wonderfully easy to use program. If you want a simple yet professional quickie website, this is the program to buy. Eventually you will want stronger tools and a more intuitive interface...When that day comes, just buy Macromedia Dreamweaver.

"Frontpage:The other side", Yes, Frontpage is a decent program, and I don't want to rehash the good points that the other reviewers have pointed out. My general belief is that in a side-by-side comparison with the other 2 design products I have used is that Frontpage loses more than it wins.

Problems: Be sure to check out the designed pages in a Netscape browser. Any complicated page will require a refit for both the 4.x and the 6.x browsers. Javascript? Major differences also create problems. Ever gone to a site in Netscape only to have it look wierd? Probably designed in Frontpage. Of course, if you want to dismiss the 30% of your customers who still use Netscape, go right ahead.

The interface is not intuitive. Microsoft did a great job with Excel and Word, making it easy to use for beginners but feature-rich for experienced users. Count on a long learning curve on this baby, even if you are a skilled designer.

Finally: The templates are great. However, Frontpage is extremely popular and the templates are overused, so you run the risk of seeing a similar site (or many similar sites). My recommendation: Design with template then change all the MS images.

Sorry, Bill.

"Frontpage 2000 second review", Of course maintaining all the stuff for a growing website(s) from within Frontpage is a main feature. And it does a whole lot of things.

I've used the program for a while now. The main disadvantage is a non robust way of program execution. The filehandling is all but clear, the updates for file incorporation is painfully slow and that on a 2 processor PIII 500 MHz workstation running windows 2000. The loading of all graphical components, wether belonging to the programs userinterface or otherwise, is slow.

The programmatic features is hard to reach in many levels of clicking.

The hard to get insertion facility: to get at the graphical point you want, is akward, inexact from a user intervention point of view.

The crippled text areas, where you do not see entire file path, are not consequently performed through the software, THIS IS A NOVICE DESIGN ERROR.

The navigation structure takes sometimes over 20 seconds to load in for a small number of pages. After closing or working with a web the Folder list is not clickable to go away.

This isn't a novice program. It isn't Professional. It reach between novice and professional. Although it works nicely with microsoft specific features, not all features are accessible from within the editor per se.

"Beware the 40 dollar rebate !!!", When a company offers a "rebate" for buying their product, they should mean just that...REBATE....no strings attached (except proof of purchase, of course).

Some marketing genius at Microsoft has devised a way not to pay the rebate unless you have documentation and bar codes from other MS products books & boxes from years ago. Since we can't find all that crap to send in for a rebate, they tell us "tuff" !!

We feel confident that... would not sell this decptive form af advertizing if they knew about it. We would have purchased another program, had we known what a hassle it would be to get our "rebate"...which we aren't getting.

Some "rebate", huh guys ?!?!?!
