"Probably the most fun RTS I've ever played", Since I first bought this game, I've gone through three computers - a PII, a PIII, and a P4. Now I'm still playing this classic on my dual-core, and its just as fun as ever.

I don't care if the graphics don't wow me, or if the score is old and familiar like the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup", or if the sound effects were designed for a SoundBlaster in 1998, the game is FUN.

This is a rare RTS that can accomodate any general's strategy. You can focus on air power, artillery, tank rushes, infantry rushes, naval bombardment, airdrops... you name it, you can do it.

C&C Generals has a "strategy center" that allows you to "hold the line" or "bombard" or "search and destroy". But Total Annihilation does it better, and without spending 2,500 credits building a "Strategy Center".

Seriously, this game is great if you just want to kill half an hour, or if you need an all-night gaming session.

"Fog of Stupidity", Ok I remember playing this game a long time ago and LOVING it. But after installing the latest patches and giving it another go I have to wonder...WHO decided to make the enemies be able to shoot you from so far away?
Whoever did that and made that decision...ruined the game. I am going to uninstall the patch and play again and see if it changes things because I swear it wasnt like that when I played it the first time around. I will update after trying it sans patch.

"Great game, but an old one.", I like this game a lot. The multiplayer, either skirmish or with some friends, is among the best out there. The game allows for many different ways to attack, like ground invasion, missiles, air strikes, artillery fire, or just nuke the enemy bases. Plus, every attack has a defense, so good players can stop just about every attack against them. This can lead to very long matches with no clear cut winners.

The largest flaw with this game is its age. The engine doesn't allow zooming in or out. Most commanding happens through the mini-map, which can take some adjusting. However, a more advanced engine that supports Total Annihilation maps and mods has been released. It's named "TA Spring". I highly recommend that engine as well. Aside from the engine, there were no major flaws to this game. It is one of the best RTS games ever made.

"Good game, but sometimes annoying", I have owned this game for several years and decided to buy another copy for a friend.
Strategy is somewhat the most important role, but knowing what to build and what to destroy.
An annoying thing I realized is that sometimes you just can't defeat the other opponent even if you rush in with 150+ aircrafts if vehicles, kbots, or ships cannot do so. There are times when it will seem to be like a tie and I save the game and deal with it later. I'm talking about playing against the comp. btw...Playing against other players is great when you learn more about the game.
There are some overpowered items in this game so I find that if you attack in smaller mobs than come in in a large group you might be able to slow down their building of weapons. When they have the most advanced weapons/robots you can't really beat them and neither can they beat you as you would probably have the top items as well. That's the only problem I really found in this game against the computer.
This is an amazing game and you'll be playing it for hours since it's so much fun. Some weapons are really cool and you basically just own tons of enemies with them. I find ships useful for defense since some have powerful or fast attacks. Vehicles are what I used for to attack in smaller groups. Bombing aircrafts literally wipes out a group while only sacrificing a few of your own robots.
If your into strategy action games, you must own this or at least play it a couple of times. What's more fun than blasting metal while using your brain to defeat them.

"TA Still rules", I am a long time fan of this game and came across it again here. I bought another copy on a whim, and it is still as fun as it was years ago. I did see someone is working on an open source version and a possible TA 2.

"War Game", This game excels in the ability to simulate a massive war. When I play with my friend, it gives me that same feel of crashing cars together when I was young. The lighting and smoke effects are amazing, especially for a game so old. Seeing the volleys of plasma blasts and rockets makes me smile with glee. Hitting a unit hard enough to make it fragment is amazing. Pieces of the unit go flying off. Units leave wreckage which impede movement and block shots. Wreckage is 3D rendered too, and has height. Ships will sink to the bottom of the water, waiting to be reused, by reclaiming it with a construction robot. With patches, you can build a ship yard in lava, which slowly damages your ships.
Terrain is 3D. Beware of hills. That BFC that you just built can't always lob a shot over the hills. Makes me want to pull out my trig book so I can calculate where to put it to fire over the hills and walls. Also, those trees are pretty, but they have several uses. They can absorb one plasma blast, or catch fire by lasers, missiles, flamethrowers, or rockets, damaging units that are too close. The forest fire moves with the wind on the map. They can also be used as a cheap source of energy, by reclaiming them.
Units tilt when going up hills, and wobble when hit by enemy fire, and rock when returning fire. My favourite is watching the battleship fire its long range cannons in a salvo fire, and then rocking a bit in the water. The turrets are amazing. The battleship has two independant turrets that can fire at two enemies at once! The Dooms Day can fire at three units at once. Several units have multiple weapons to deal with different foes.
I'd write more, but all this ranting and raving makes me want to go play it now. ...

"Total Annihilation, need I say more?", From quick raids to explosive artillary,Totla Annihilation has it all: land, water,and air units packed with it all. Fight for dommination as you choose your side: ARM, or CORE. Total Annihilation is the best futuristic war/stratedgy game there ever was and there ever will be. Once you start playing this game, sit back and hold on Really tight this game will give you a thrill of fun. I highly recommened this game, it is definetly a game worth your money!

"The Ultimate RTS Game Ever!", TA is likely the best tactical game ever, and that is not just my opinion. I first played it at a friends house, my friend got upset when I refused to stop playing TA. I own C&C, but the main problem with it is that it has a lack of depth. Admittedly, TA has a few flaws, #1 the units from each side are mainly the same (with several notable exceptions), #2 the enemy is often found easily, and #3 the AI occasionally acts stupid (building dozens of aircraft carriers and no planes). TA requires completely new tactics. For example, the Commander is an extremely powerful unit, but you must not let it die (or you lose). In early levels, you need build no units, only walk your Commander through the level and use it's Disintegration Gun. There are many other examples of it's unparalled uniqueness. A brief overview of the game: You build structures and units with metal and energy. Units with heavy firepower often require energy to fire their weapons. Energy (the more abundant resource) can be converted over to metal at a conversion rate of 1 metal = 60 energy. Units are built using a technology called "nanolathing". Construction units are used to build higher-level structures and help repair/build new units. There are three structure levels. There exist five types of production plants: Vehicle, Aircraft, Ship, Hovercraft, and K-Bot (really small mechs). I highly recommend Total Annihilation to fans of games such as Command and Conquer and Starcraft. It is highly unique, and well worth it's low price. Units and maps are available for free downloading, as is a map editor. I have the Core Contigency, and highly recommend buying the Core Contigency and Battle Tactics too. This game is awesome!

"Total Annihilation is awsome!", Man, this game is cool. When I am finished, there isn't a single arm unit on the map. The single player campain is okay, the first missions are ridiculously easy and the ending missions are nearly impossible. The best part of the game is the skirmish vs the computer, were you get to slug it out with the computer without difficult mission objectives. Some times if I am feeling genorous, I'll build quick army and stomp any resistance on the other side of the map. I played this game for months and then it broke! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the music. It was incredible! My favorate song is battle number 5.
