Others say...
"The Gamer from Kansas says it all." I could not agree more with the gamer from Kansas. The game stinks. Also it relates in no part to the former history of either Arm of Core as it is supposed to. Witchcraft and wizardry has no apeal to me. However, if you really want a cool game you should get Total Annihilation, way better graphics and a lot more fun. Don't waste your money!
"How Awful Can it Get?" I got this game and rued it ever since. after seeing the graphics I first thought it was made before total annihilatoin (original), but later found out it was newer. The tech tree is dumb, and its hard to tell what the units are, i mean it's quite bad when you can't tell a difference between a horse and a rat.
"Best Medieval Strategy game I have ever played." .... Kingdoms had an original plot (with a rich storyline), many units to increase your variety of war, stable code (you could even run this on Windows 2000), and (my favorite) excellent multiplayer capabilities. Bottom line, if you liked Blizzard's "Warcraft II" then this is a must purchase.
"It's your average game" This is probably closer to 3 and a half beuse of a few nice features, such as the loading screen is a stained glass that fills in. But the actual game has a really easy campain and really hard skirmish. There are may different units for each different player. You pay for everything with mana that recharges depenting on the number of loadstones and divine loadstones that you place. I would recommend buying it because of the cheap price.
"Deserves its name..." Cavedog could not have come up with a better title for this game. For one, most of the campaign mission require you to exterminate the enemy. Second, everythng gets annihilated. After one skirmish map, I was given the statistics. I had built something like 186 units. I had lost about 180. I got this game a while ago, and then it sort of lapsed into disfavor when I stated playing titles such as AoE2 and Warlords Battlecry. Recently, I returned to TA and found it quite enjoyable. I don'tknow what the editorial reviewer was talking about when he said you can't tell one unit from the next. The units are distinct and original, as well as well-balanced. You can even download sme awesome new troops from Cavedog's website. There are, however, three problems with this game tha bring my score of it down to 4 stars. One, the unit AI is awful. Musketeers will stand idly by while the Warrior next to them is torched by a drake. Also, unless a unit can see another or is ordered to atack it, it won't attack. You army can be standing somewhere, and suddenly Mortar bomb begin raining in. Instead of going to investigate, your men (or women, as the case may be) will stand there and be blown to pieces. The second problem is the computer's will to survive. When you are sure you have eliminted te enemy, you find to your horror that you have let one builder run awaand he has constructed a town o rival yours. he third problem is minor; no cheats in the campaigns!

What our customer's say!"Suprisingly fun and long!", This was a curiosity purchase that sat for awhile. I finally fired it up on an XP machine. Do get the upgrade if you can find it. There are 48 scenerios in the self play. The AI is ok. If you are a defensive player, you will like this game. The scenerios range from what feels like a demo of new features. For example, when the cannons first appear, you get one scenerio defending a pass. I didn't ahve to do anything as the cannon fire wiped out that attackers that kept charging into the guns. The hardest scenero for me was vengence. You are warned to set up before detecting and it is true. I got noticed and was swarmed. I built of up defenses in order to build the army. Unfortunatly, the AI dug in rather well and it took a constant barrage of air armadas of dragons and fairies to defeat the well placed towers. Each tower was coverd by the others. The GUI can get annoying as if you don't pay attention and click you will send units or builders in a direction you didn't intend. The gold dragon was a fun introduction. Though I will admit it made the fighting easier. The story line is good. However, you will switch between sides during the play. It gets a little strange at times as you invade and set up a base. Then the next scenerio you play the otherside and are supposed to destroy the base. Overall it's not a bad game. Especially at current prices. I am going ot look for the addon. "Not Bad", This game was a lot like Warcraft II. Interesting story, and pretty fun to play. Much like any of the RTS, you build structures, create units, and try to wipe your enemy out any way you can. This game is certainly worth the 9 bucks Amazon charges, and while you are at it, pick up the Iron Plague expansion. "The best strategy game ever!", There is no reason why you shouldn't buy this game for only 4 bucks, even $10 is not to expensive. The buildings and creatures you can create are extra ordinary. By that I mean, awsome! You can build dragons, trolls, mage towers, warships, you name it! It runs on XP too. You can play the adventure where each level has a different map and battle senario. Or, just play a game against the computer where you chose the map, population limit, and which of the four empires you want to fight with. It's still fun after monthes of gaming. Pros: Imaginetive creatures. Great maps. A large viriety of buildings and creatures. And basically everything. Cons: Takes alot of RAM. Internet play is hard to set up. Bottom line: I give it 9.5 out of 10, go get it!
"If you are looking for a sequal to TA, this is NOT it!", I bought this game because I really loved playing TA (Total Annihilation). The user supplied maps and units for TA really made for a lot of variety, and I thought the graphics were cool. TA Kingdoms seemed really slow (as in not very interactive). The graphics were OK, but they seemed like a downgrade from the really crisp models they used in TA. It was annoying to have the computer fire at me from far off screen where I knew he could not see my units (this was a problem in TA too, but less of one, in my opinion). The setting for TA Kingdoms sounded exciting, but it seemed like the different Kingdoms had a very set way of doing things and once you figured it out you were all set. Overall, I thought this was a pretty boring game. Go for TA instead.
"Slow moving and tedious", After Total Annihilation, this was a HUGE disappointment. In particular, the way all units trudge slowly along, even when under fire makes it look like even they cannot be bothered. I certainly can't. Slow to load, slow to run, slow to play, loaded with portentous music and yet totally unabsorbing. A typical games consists of spending a very long time making huge numbers of utterly undistinguished units then watching them amble slowly into battle. Rarely do enough make it to achieve anything. Then it's time to start all over again. On balance, I would rather watch my screen saver. Which is odd, since the original TA is still my all time favourite (and most frequently played) game. Bring on TA2!!

Read this reviews before You buy..."Personally, I think it's quite cool... :-P", I see alot of people on here griping and nitpicking about what this game has and doesn't have. Is it something groundbreaking? Nah... Is it something that hasn't been done before? Nah... Is it still a pretty darn nifty game? you betcha! It's a RTS, period, and all RTS games seem to suffer universally from similar ailments. These being certain tactics, units, et al that are very powerful, yada yada... just play it! I happen to think the graphics are pretty darn nice myself, and the elevation changes are quite good as well. FOUR sides to choose from gives a nice variety of units and such. Not alot to be said, some things could have been done better, but it's a cool game. I think, however, that the "super units" could be all together bypassed if Cavedog and other Designers (Blizzard for instance) would adopt the Tech Level variable, a la Command & Conquer, for multiplay games. Sometime I wana just batten down and have an all-out slug fest with the basic 'grunt' units in the game. All the upper-level stuff is cool, but it really does detract from the fun of the game(s) because there's no strategy involved in dropping a Nuke/Magic Death Spell/Whatever, on your opponent. Anyhow, I ramble, hehehe, did I mention this is a good game and you should buy it? "For Shame Cavedog!", I tryed the demo of this game I didn't really like it to much. Sure there may been a few more sides, however, it can get boring after awhile. But I like the idea of seeing TA in the middle ages! "Not as bad as advertised.", Why is everyone upset with this game? I'm not sure, but I'm not one of them. I guess everyone expected alot more than the original Total Annihilation and what they got was something designed a little better. Maybe a little too pretty. Here is what the game has going for it. Excellent detail to the each unit, building, and the surrounding terrain. A good story. Units with special attack features and some of these are really cool. The gameplay is pretty good also. The on-line gaming at boneyards. This is where the game really excels and is probably more competitive. What could've been better? The soundtrack wasn't very good. There was too much quietness when playing. And in some of the battles, the only way in was a narrow passage where only 2 units could stand side by side. the computer would just pack this passage way and it would take forever to get in (it took me over 7 hours on 2 such battles towards the end of the game). I would probably rate this closer to 3 1/2 stars, but I did enjoy this game. Lots of different characters and some pretty good battles. "Too generous?", This game is so bad I hesitate with my second star. I would categorize this game as a great concept ruined by a bad game. While the movies are great and the wide variety and impressive uniqueness of the different players is truly an accomplishement the actual gameplay is crap. For one thing the sides aren't evenly matched. Play Veruna with even a small body of water and its a gauranteed massacre of the other side. Play Zhon, on the other hand, and expect to spend 5 hours on a single game before deciding to give up. Amazingly, the expansion pack fails to correct this problem at all! The game is pathetically slow and worse, the somewhat baffling placement of mana makes it impossible to fortify yourself in a base. Furthermore (and there's more) the unlimited supply of bafflingly placed mana is in-exhaustible, so the computer builds anthropomorphic bases with defensive fortifications every two feet. Try and set foot in one of them and your army of 30 is dead in 3 seconds! 30 is also the biggest force you can ever truly hope to assemble, by the way, because to control more than that is impossible, flatly impossible! While you can group units, ordering a group is ill-advised because while you may order them to move to a certain location on the way if they're ambushed by the enemy they'll just keep walking and not even fight back until they're all dead. Tell them to attack the enemy and they kill the unit you clicked on and then just stand to be slaughtered by the rest. Even setting them to agressive mode does little to combat the problem. I prefer turn-based strategy anyway, but this is truly a new low. This game sucks, it sucks hard. Won't someone ever make us a decent strategy game thats not sci-fi? "The Internet more than makes up", Many people are coming off with a bad impression of TA:K. Yes, the game did seem unfinished at its initial release, but the online TA:K community more than makes up for it. You can get the units to make up for what the game initially lacked, and the player-made units are a lot of fun. There are even entire races that can be incorporated into the game. Of course, if you're looking to buy TA:K, you should probably get Iron Plague while you're at it, and be sure to pick up as many Net add-ons as you can, since those are what really give the game the boost it needed. In addition, the Multiplayer is fun, since you can go on the Internet and buddy up with another person. It's highly addictive to play with others, so if you get it, be sure to log on to the Boneyards.
