"Highly recommended!" I absolutely love these. They are very comfortable. They have great sound, the base is surprisingly strong for the price. They do a reasonably good job blocking out noise; they do a fantastic job at not leaking sound (people nearby don't hear it). I'm very happy with these for the price (I paid $32). I would get them again / recommend them if you are looking for headphones in the price range.
"Not perfect, but very good!!" Looking for good headphones for my iPod I came across these. Sound quality (to my ears) is rather good and clean, with deep bass (very good for synthesized dance/electronic music or neo soul music which are usually bass heavy, but my Jazz and Rock sounds great too).
Lightweight, it fits snugly over my head and onto my ears and in an office or home environment, blocks out most of the surrounding sound, leaving you to hear just your music. It doesn't block out much subway or airplane noise though.
On the downside, the much touted foldability doesn't fold it down to miniscule proportions as I'd hoped, and I find I have to wind up and tie up the 3m long cord. Other than these minor gripes, I'm a happy camper!
"Super-glue not included" The MDR-V300's are only the second pair of Sony headphones I have owned since I had to retire my my old "Studio Monitor" series pair I had for many years. My only complaints are the cheap plastic headbands and the earpads. The cord and the drivers outlast the headbands. The cord never came apart and the drivers sounded fantastic just like the day I bought them, after so many years of use. But not long after owning them the plastic starts to crack and split here and there. I have had to always keep a bottle of super-glue near by just for this purpose. Im sure down the road my V300's (which I have glued many times already) will endure the same, and I will be left with yet another pair of drivers and a cord to toss away.
Earpads on the other hand are comfy but made out of the thinest and cheapest material and tear very easily. A piece of garbage bag would have lasted longer. I think for the price Sony could at least toss in an extra pair. Like headphones used to back in the 80's... remember?
But the sound is what makes me put up with all this and for that reason alone, I will continue to buy.
So, hey Sony, how bout some better headbands and I will give you 5 stars next time... deal?
"Far Better For the Money" Before I got into and started collecting headphones, this was the set I used. If you want the short of it, there are several better options than the V300 for the money. It is generally a dark and boomy headphone. It is also fragile. Though mine haven't yet broken, a common site with these headphones is a broken gimbal joint on one of the cups and/or cracked and flaking earpads. In their defense, I think they have a rather beefy cable -- albeit a studio length cable which makes them a hassle for portable use. They are also very comfortable.
There are far better options for this amount of money and less. Most of the Koss line immediately springs to mind, particularly the KSC75 and Pro35a. I also recommend the Sennheiser HD201 (which Sennheiser has apparently recently improved on in the HD205, but I don't have personal experience with it) and the Sennheiser PX100. If you want to stick with a Sony, I would recommend you perhaps hold out for the slightly more expensive, certainly more venerable, V6/7506 (NOT to be confused with V600!).
"very good headphones" headphones are great for ipod or cd players volume is descent and earpieces are comforable for the person who works out and uses music for motivation . good headphones

What our customer's say!
"my almost perfect headphones", The Sony MDR-V300 headphones are my almost perfect pair of headphones. They are very comfortable, and the sound that comes out of them is phenomenal. I listen to metal and dance music, and I could not have asked for better sound.I just wish that Sony added a volume control switch to the cord for these headphones.
"Great comfort and quality", I purchased these specifically for the 10' cord so I could watch tv in bed (Sennheiser wireless headphones did not work). I was surprised by the comfort and quality of these headphones. One of the better sets I've ever owned.
"0 stars, anyone?", so basically i bought a pair of these sorry excuses for headphones about 5 months ago. not only did the lower part of the headphone jack break off, it broke off IN MY IPOD, essentially ruining it, unless i want to pay some insane fee to send it off and be fixed (which i dont). when i tried to contact sony, as soon as they realized i was inquiring about some cheap pair of headphones instead of a ps3 or one of their hdtvs, they basically disregarded my complaint, told me there was nothing they could do for me and pretty much implied that it was my own fault for not being more careful with them. while the headphones were operational, the sound quality was decent (certainly respectable for lower end headphones) but the entire unit was EXTREMELY uncomfortable not just on top of my head but over my ears as well (some of these reviewers calling the headphones' design ideal must never have tried any other pairs). the cord is also inexplicably long, which sounds like nitpicking, but it really got on my nerves having to constantly untangle and untie all these knots, or having to shove 5 feet of wire in my pocket so it didnt drag on the ground. although i personally never had any problems with the actual headset breaking, its painfully evident that the swivels are very cheaply made, and i certainly wouldnt reccomend shoving these in a backpack or messenger bag, as i could easily see one of these cheap plastic beams breaking after a day in a confined space with other insecure hard objects (although at least then only the headphones would be broken and not your ipod as well). AVOID THESE PIECES OF GARBAGE LIKE A PLAGUE!
"Excellent buy", I'm a musician, and sound is important, especially working electronically. I have bought these particular headphones twice. They are of excellent sound quality for an excellent price. Warning-DO NOT DROP THEM -As they structurally aren't as good as they could be, and I've had to super-glue the plastic pieces in several different spots - but the sound more than compensates. These are the best in their price range. I've had my first pair for almost 3 years now. Also they are light and, not too snug, and are comfortable in winter and summer weather. The 10' foot cord allows for great home uses too!!
"Perhaps better off, now that they've broken", I'm not an audio expert, so I've been adequately satisfied with the sound these MDR-V300 phones produce. But maybe I shouldn't be.
I'm giving up on them after they broke today for the second time (first the plug, then the plastic headband), To my surprise, the cheap Yamaha RH-2Cs I'm using now are more comfortable and give me previously unnoticed sound details.
The V300s have always seemed too small for my head, even with the phones fully extended.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Good sound for small heads", These headphones produce reasonably good sound, but they are a little tight on my big (adult) head. They are perfect for my kids, however. The cord is really long, so use with an iPod is a bit awkward.
"Sony MDR-V300 Monitor Series Headphones", These simply are the best headphones that I have ever heard! I bought these to go with my Ipod. I don't like the fact of the earbuds being in my ears(its uncomfortable) but they sound really good. So I bought these to replace my earbuds. They still have the Neodymium magnets and a frequency response of 16-22,000 Hz/Sensitivity: 102 dB/mW.
"sony headphones", I bought these headphones for my husband's laptop, and they work great. The sound quality is perfect. He listens to things very loud, yet I could barely here whatever it was he was listneing to. These are comfotable and easy to wear, the cord is very long which makes the headphones more accessible. Buy some now!
"Sony MDR-V300", The Sony MDR-V300 headphones are a little heavier than I expected, but they provide good sound quality and are of rugged design, with durable cable. The cable has a 1/4" headphone plug on it and comes with a nice phone to miniature adapter, making it very versatile. So, you don't need to go out and buy an adapter if you use the miniature 1/8" plug (on most portable audio products)
"One year and still very very pleased!!", I constantly listen to my ipod and the MDR-V300s are my favorite headsets. they are very comfortable and the sound is great. i also use the sony NC-6 phones. the sound and comfort is better with the MDR-V300. i am so pleased i keep checking amazon for a little better price and free shipping for a back up pair. whatever you do, stay away from the ear bud phones by sony like the MDR-EX51LP. the cable housing melts in about 3 weeks from my skin oil. i went thru 2 pairs until the warranty wouldnt replace them and had to throw them away.
