"Getting Hard To Find"
For those of you criticizing the prices here on Amazon for this amazing collection i find it kind of funny. Most of you (myself included) have no problem plopping down 50 bucks for a new game but when it comes to the greatest collection of games EVER released including the first 7 Kings quest games, and a remake of the first 1 - with better graphics only available in this collection as well as a host of other classic adventure games and other bonuses to numerous to list 100 bucks or so starts to sound like a bargain - and believe me you probably wont save any money on ebay on this one - hard to find is a gross understatement. (Supply and demand)

I have my copy and i love it.

"You can run games on XP"
I won't bother repeating how wonderful ALL of the games are, because everyone has either said it or already knows it. I am writing this in response to the review that says you cannot run it on XP- you can. You must change the compatibility settings to windows 95. Right click, and go to properties. You will see the compatibility tab. Just change the settings to windows 95 and check all the boxes.

"Great ride but not worth the price of admission"
The Kings Quest collection is, in my opinion, the best adventure series ever but these prices that the people are selling them at are utterly and stupidly ridiculous! Now as far as the games are concerned, EVERY game in the series is great and awesome there really isn't a bad game in the whole series and the way each game connects from the last is done perfectly and brilliant. I think the best way to describe this series is like playing a awesome novel that always keeps ahold of your attention. Now as far as the price concerns obviously these greedy jackasses are asking for WAY too much. Mainly because these games are meant to be played on older systems, KQ 1-4 are DOS games and KQ 5-7 were designed for WIN 3.1. I have a Pentium II processor and run WIN98SE and I sometimes have problems running KQ 5-7 so I could imagine this collection wouldn't work too well if at all on more modern systems. Even if you do have an older computer and want to purchase this collection you could find it for alot cheaper on ebay (little hard to find but be patient there's usually someone selling it.) So to summarize, Awesome, kick ass, rocking games but overpriced by greedy jackasses so check Ebay.

"Won't work on XP"
I have tried installing this game on Windows XP after I was told by the seller of this product that it would be compatible. On the first attempt, the install screen did show up and went through the tests, but then said it could not read a file in the program. Now when I try to install the game, it won't even display the install screen. This is a huge dissapointment because the games are such huge classics.

"King's Quest Collection: A Classic"
These games have taken their place in computer history. King's Quest is the series that got Sierra started. King's Quest and the accompanying games are great fun for everyone in the family. But be forewarned - on the older games, typing is required, and it's not always easy to navigate.

Because these games are so old, compatibility can be a problem. For sound, however, downloading "VDMSound," currently at http://ntvdm.cjb.net/ or http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/ will help.

What our customer's say!

"The Cost", i got this by chance when a video game store was going out of sale and paid only 9.99 for it which i see now is a steal i was thinking of getting the compilation but since it has some bad reviews im just gonna keep the ones i have although it does have some problems with windows and DOS going back and forth but i really just got it for KQ7 my faaaaaaaaaave out of all of them...i miss those games..i really do...

"Patience is Everything", Vivendi Universal who acquired Sierra On-Line and all intellectual properties therein some time ago has announced that there will be Windows XP compatible compilations of the "King's Quest", "Space Quest", and "Police Quest" game series available during the holiday season of 06'. Yes, it is true that these compilations were promised in March of this year, but the most recent press release I have read indicates they are on course. After close inspection of the packaging of this particular product, I believe it would be a try at your own risk proposition to get this to work on a modern PC. Trust me, I still have my Space Quest and King's quest disks from when I purchased them new in the eighties but they will not work on a modern PC due the DirectX usage of modern PC's. These games require far less computing power and thus are not recognized without a fully tweaked DosBox emulator. Hope this helps and happy shopping.

"You can't get this anywhere else!", Someone said below "you can buy kings quest 15th anniverary with games 1 through 6 much cheaper and then purchase kings quest 7 separately much cheaper"

This may be true BUT, this collection has more than 7 games. There are also 3 full additional non-king's quest game and a handful of bonus games. Buying 1-6 and then buying 7 seperately will make you miss out on the other games!

This collection is fun for all ages - either for nostalgic reasons, or just b/c you like adventure! Highly recommended!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Laura Bow Dagger of Amon Ra does work!", I love the Laura Bow Dagger of Amon Ra game that came with the King's Quest Package! I only expeirenced one problem with it, it wouldn't finish, until I downloaded the bug fixer from Sierra and before you enter the last chapter Rex Takes a Bite Out of Crime, you must turn off the dialoge so you will see speech bubbles instead. I have done this many times and it has always worked for me now, you may turn the dialoge back on when you are climbing up the tunnel in the furnace room. Hope this helps all of you dying to see the ending! :)

"Awesome! The best logic/fantasy games ever!", I am a huge fan of the King's Quest series, and have played every game on the collection at least twice(KQ 3, 6, & 7, I have played more than 5 times each!). Although the graphics aren't the best compared with today's tech, the story lines completly make up for it! And along with the amazing puzzles, riddles, and quests you have to solve, a lot of humor is thrown in to add a little color to the game. Definitely family-friendly. My dad and I used to play when I was younger. I would recommend this game to anyone!

"I grew up with Sierra", I learned to spell from playing these games. I loved the Laura Bows and Kings Quest 4,5, and 6. In second grade, I used to bug my parents to play Space Quest every night. I earned Kings quest 4 for getting all A's on my report card in 3rd grade. Roberta Williams is a genius and it is really a shame that Sierra no longer makes adventure games. I think the last one that I ever played was Gabriel Knight 3 (also a great game, by the way). But I loved the little shredded mountain and the theme music that would always precede the beginning of their games. It was the gateway to new worlds.
Individual commentary about the games
I started playing the King's Quests with King's Quest four. The king's quest's games draw from mythology, fairy tales and folklore. What I especially liked about this game was the well fleshed out story. I believe it would make a great story even now if the graphics were revamped and it would be absolutely stunning in 3-d.
My other favorite was the colonel's bequest. The aptmosphere is a grim island off Lousiana. What could be a better setting? Lousiana in the 20's. From what I saw of the game and from what I know now, this game appeared pretty well researched, and the characters were fascinating and well drawn out. They were carictures at first, but then they grew in depth and you never really knew what they would do next. And one of them was bad. The ending was especially well done and it didn't leave you with the feeling you played the game for nothing. The characters- A sexy french maid, a mysterious withdrawn butler, a Civil War Colonel with a fortune, His scheming niece and nephews, a cajun cook, an old doctor with a guilty streak and a scheming lawyer. Then theres Laura's friend, a rebellious flapper and her alcoholic mother. The game is played out in chapters, as Laura you basically spy on people and gather clues. Each chapter is punctuated by clock chimes, which I think is a good touch. For what this game could do when it was made, it was really amazing. It's really a shame adventure games are going off the market, because I will always view Sierra as the master.

"Kings Quest by Serria", This Game Rock! I've only played games 5&6, BUT from that I can't wait for the next game. You have to get this is awsome. The grafics might be a little cheesey but that's okay~

And on KQ 6 DEATH THE LORD OF THE RELM OF THE DEAD IS AWASOME AWASOME. Trust me. I woudn't have written this if it was a totaly boring serria game. See Ya:-)

"An absolute classic.", King's Quest was Sierra's milestone maker from the 80s up through the early 90s. King's Quest 1 was the first computer game with color graphics, King's Quest 4 was the first game with digital music, and King's Quest 5 was the first game with complete voice actors, and King's Quest 6 was the first game exclusively on compact disc.

But besides all that, the games themselves are practically masterpieces in their own right. That is, except for game 7. I'm not sure if that was made before or after Sierra was bought out by Cendant, but it would certainly explain some things. In any case, the mediocrity of it doesn't detract from the rest. However, you should note that King's Quest 1-4 and the Laura Bow games are made for DOS and may not work properly under new versions of Windows. They do work for me under Windows 2000 with VDMSound, though.
