"Unreal, Highly Immersive Gameplay!", Homeworld's best features-graphics engine, scripting, control mechanics, narrative flow, and mission structure, are so fluid, so highly immersive, that it makes the experience far more than the sum of its parts. The combination of large scale fleet actions and cinematic perspectives creates the most impressive space combat ever made for a strategy game. Its like being in the middle of, and in cotrol of, a Star Wars battle. 16 single player missions can make for some short gaming time but most people go through the campaign at least twice-its that good. In single player, you'll encounter 2 races, aside from the main one that your trying to decimate.

There are 26 units to choose from on each side, with 3 main classes of ships-from the paltry fire of the scout, to the amazing might of the heavy cruiser. The excellent use of 3D makes for some interesting strategies, putting much imphasis on the element of surprise...

To sum it up, buy Homeworld for its engrossing real-time-strategy matched to a vital and visually intense story, making this a gaming experience like none other.

"Blows me away...", Think Starcraft - take away a bit of the story and the uniqueness of each faction, set it in space and make it fully 3D - you've got HomeWorld.

I don't know what can be said about the graphics in this game that haven't already been said, but let me try to briefly explain their detail, if not their beauty. Some of the ships have turreted weapons. Not only can you zoom in on a ship and watch its turrets independently rotate and fire, but when they fire, you see the turrets recoil from the shot. Zoom in close enough and you can even hear the turrets rotating. Other impressive details include docking ports on support ships that open and close.

Even more so than the graphics, the user interface in this game is (to me, at least) very intuitive and easy to learn with the included tutorial. My only complaint is that there are two views - the basic in game view and the overall map view - both of which work in real time. My complaint here would be that in the normal view, you can only zoom out so far (making it difficult to manage a large scale battle) without switching to the map view. Sierra should have made switching between these two simply a function of your zoom level, rather than a seperate key.

This is a minor complaint, however.

Finally, I want to say what a good job this game does creating a believable environment - a lot of this has to do with sounds - you hear radio calls of your pilots as they comment on how their routing the enemy, in trouble, running low on fuel etc. Zoom in on an individual ship and see its exhaust. Zoom out on a large space battle and you'll see the closest thing you'll ever see to Return of the Jedi on your computer. Bravo.

This has to be one of the best games to come along in quite a while. Homeworld does for RTS what Wing Commander did for space combat

"The Best", I consider Homeworld to be one, if not the, best games i have ever played. Its graphics are sharp and clear, and its strory will keep you glued to the computer screen. If you do not buy this game, you are missing a great experience.

"Must... Stop... Playing...", I haven't even finished it yet (it's been ages since I started) but this game is wonderful; the ship designs, the full-3D perspective and the interface all work together to create an incredible game. The in-game music is hauntingly wonderful as well.

"Oh yeah!", Just got this game last week, boy do I wish I got it when it first came out! I don't know why everyone says it's hard to learn, I had no trouble. I have to admit the AI lacks, but it's still very fun over a LAN. =)

"HOMEWORLD - A Visual & Aural Feast", What can one say when a game sucks you in so completely that time seems to collapse in on itself and become meaningless? Homeworld is one those rare games that is so solid that it really evolves as you play it. It does this by providing the player with a rock-solid background story backed up by superior game play. I highly reccommend that players READ the manual before playing, because it gives you a tremendous amount of race history that builds up the mystique for the race that you become responsible for. Gameplay is relatively easy to master, and the learning curve is pretty flat. It takes some getting used to the 3D battle field and selecting ships to attack, and the fact that you cannot pause the action to assign targets to attack is annoying, but beyond that if you practice you will get the hang of it quickly. I say visual and aural feast because it is! The ship design is excellent, reminescent of Babylon 5 and Dream Pod 9's Mekton sourcebooks for the Jovian Chronicles RPGs. The music is both subtle and awe inspiring at the same time with its majestic and powerful choral accompaniments that tug at your emotions as sure as the importance of seeing the Mothership and her precious cargo safely to the homeworld. If you've come here to expect blood splattering on walls or pouring out windows, inconveniencing passersby with the spray, you will be disappointed. This game is not 'extreme' nor does it 'kick @ss', instead it inspires and propagates a whole host of emotions bordering on an intensity rarely seen in a game before. The story is equal to that of such epics as Starcraft & Broodwar, and Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (I know it's an FPS and not an RTS, but I'm talking about story not game type). It makes getting the Mothership home an imperative and not just a reason to see the end cut scene. Additionally, YES has performed the title track for the game, and itself is a nine minute epic, (as is most of Yes' music), that compliments the game. When a supergroup like Yes pays attention to a video game, it must be something special. HOMEWORLD is for anyone who loves science fiction and good gaming all rolled into one.

"Please don't waste your money!", At first the game was great. The graphics were excellent and gameplay was fun, but after I started getting into it, it all changed. The ships would only follow my orders after nagging and begging them to do so. It was as if they were to good to fight for their colony and just decided to stay at home and eat cold pizza. I tried over and over to correct this problem. I ended up shooting several bullet holes in the CD. Basicly, the game just has to many glitches and is very poorly made. So, please do not waste your money on this game. There are much better ones out there.

"This is THE Game", THis game is one of those games those games that has you just staring. The sound is excellent. The music I don't know how they did it but it makes you feel all alone and that the tasks given to MUST be complted I have never seen a game that could do that. Cheap stratgies simply don't work this is a game thaty Requres you to be good. The only problem I have is in mission 6-7 my ships have a tendecy to run into the enemy motherships. Otherwise the Ai is pretty good. In the skirmish vs cpu mode thought the enemy Ai is kinda dohty. One of the things that amzed me was the game was EASY to learn relic did a arvelous job making the 3d enviromint work many games have tried and failed horribly like pratically all the Star Trek games and Star War Rebellion. This is one game that wasn't hastilly done. The detail threshhold is amazing. The ships turrets turn and shoot form were they are supossed too which most games don't. The Bottom line is BUY THIS GAME

"Oh... dear... LORD!", We all know about real-time strategy (RTS) games. We all remember that Comand and Conquer and Warcraft were the first, providing the giant shoulders that countless game developers would stand on in an attempt to cash in on the latest gaming fad. A few standout RTS were developed in the wake of Warcraft, but not many.

Enter Homeworld. From the moment you enter the tutorial, it is blindingly obvious that this game will be like none you have EVER played. You manage your units in true 3D space, using a brilliant combo of mouse actions and hotkeys to position the camera, group and move units and more, and while awkward at first, the system becomes second nature after a short while.

The graphics are indeed stunning, but the beauty of Homeworld is GAMEPLAY. In a day when most RTS are rehashed Warcraft or C&C, Relic has created a game that truly feels like it's happening in space. Epic starship battles happen at your fingertips, and brilliant in-game cutscenes and plot twists help move the game along without a break in the immersion. This game was so awesome, I was too intimidated to play it when I first got it. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner.

Bored of the same ol' RTS? Get Homeworld. Just do it. Trust me.

"Great game and also the Hardest!", When I got this game, I was really excited about it. First, I started and it was fairly straight-forward after the great tutorial. When I started the single player game, I was very suprised by the tremendous and very in-depth story line. The graphics are great and the weapons and ships are huge and have very detailed structures.

The only draw back, at least for me, is the game is really, really hard! I could never build enough ships and collect enough resources to beat every enemy fleet. In my first shot at it, I only got to level 5. I tried it again using the other race and I got to level 7 when I ran out of resources. Other than that, which might be just a flaw in my strategy, Homeworld is one of the best real-time sims I have ever played.
