"There are better Dreamcast titles...", Sonic Adventure
When the Dreamcast first came out, this was one of the games you had to have. Sonic, being the cornerstone of Sega, was expected to be Sega's Super Mario 64. Although it failed to meet that expectation, they did create a fairly fun game. I still think if you own a Dreamcast that this needs to be in your collection. If you don't own a Dreamcast, there is no reason to find one just for this game.

Graphics- 7/10
At the time these were really good graphics. They couldn't stand up to Soul Calibur, but it was still solid. Many problems lie within the graphics though. The level design is poor. The Adventure Zones are small and yet have a loading screen every time you walk through a door. Action Zones are sometimes better, like in Twinkle Park, but not usually. The camera has all kinds of problems. You will become annoyed very quickly if you find yourself in a small room and the camera is caught. The graphics are smooth and have some good details, but overall the level design is just ugly.

Story- 8.5/10
This is probably the best aspect of the game. In this game you don't just play as Sonic, you can play as five other characters: Tails, Amy, Knuckles, E-102, and Big. You can't just pick whoever you want, you have to start as Sonic and earn other characters. One you earn another character, you can go play through their stories. You earn other characters by meeting them in the game. So, the stories sort of intertwine. You never wonder what other characters were doing because you can play as them all and figure out. Other than that, the story is you basic Sonic story. Dr. Robotnik is causes havoc and you have to stop him. It's just interesting because it shows how the story affects all the characters in the game.

Sound- 6/10
Your basic Sonic sounds. You have some decent music here and there, and that stupid jump noise. A lot of music is reused over and over again. The sound in this game is just above average and has nothing special about it.

Gameplay- 6.5/10
Although they added in the ability to play as different characters, this is still a very bad gameplay wise game. As Sonic, you go through the longest portions of the game. Sonic's story is probably one of the most interesting and well worth your time. Tails consists of you racing Sonic to try to prove that you are just as good as him. This is fairly fun, but you are practically just replaying a portion of Sonic's game. As Amy you will be protecting a bird. You have a hammer as a weapon, which is at least a little interesting. As Big you have to fish to find your friend, Froggy. This is a change in pace, but it is poorly done and very annoying trying to catch that stupid frog. Knuckles can glide and climb on things. As Knuckles you are looking for pieces of crystals. This is fun, but far too easy. As E-102 you are working for Robotnik for most of the game, but you also get to play the aftermath. He has probably the easiest game in the entire game as he uses a gun.

Difficulty- 2/10 (Note- This is how much I like the difficulty)
The game is either extremely easy, or it is annoying like Big's is. The game can be flown through. The only thing that keeps the length up is the multiple characters. Even with all the characters, this game can easily be beat within 2 days. I know the game is based for a younger audience, but it could offer a little challenge. The only hard part in the entire game is the final 7th character you unlock.

Overall- 6.5/10
This game is a fun game worth playing; it just fails at being a truly entertaining experience. If you own a Dreamcast, I suggest you buy this game. If you don't own a Dreamcast, forget you even read this review and go buy something awesome.

"Classic", This game is a classic, although gaming has evolved quite a bit, once in awhile my son will put down his ps3/psp/ps2 and go for his older system to play this game. I know he likes it and thinks it's fun, even if it is for olds times sake.

"This game kicks MAJOR BUTT!!!!", I bought this game a couple days ago and I'm still not done. This game is beautiful, creative, challenging, amazing, ... The details are just mind blowing and stunning. For anyone who has a Dreamcast, you have to own this game.

There is two things that I have to point out. First of all, the camera viewing angle isn't the best. Now, this isn't entirely a bad thing because it adds to the challenge. Also, I've played this game on a 26" and 42" T.V. I find that my smaller T.V. has a better quality than the big one. You must keep in mind that this game was released in 1999 and during that time most people had a smaller television sets than people have now. It's not a big problem, but you will definitely notice it if you have a big T.V.

Overall, it still is a 5 star game and it might be one of the greatest games ever made.

"Best 3D Sonic", This game is broken down into three components. There is the adventure mode that is quite subpar, minigames that are mediocre, and finally the stages that are very fun to play. Once you clear a stage or minigame on the adventure mode, it unlocks and you may just play it by itself from the main menu when the game boots up. You may play as 6 different characters, all with their own unique stories, stages, and minigames. I thought this was a brilliant implementation of the game. Although, admittedly the Sonic and Tails stages are way more fun the the stages for Big the Cat, Knuckles, or the robot. The Amy stages are somewhere in the middle.

The controls are somewhat frustrating at times, particularly in the adventure mode. The NPC humans in the adventure mode look downright like stick figures graphically, and stand there like manequins unless you knock into them. Then they flinch for a moment and go right back to their original position.

The adventure mode plays like an exploration game. You must figure out what to do to get to the next cutscene, minigame, or stage. You must find the object or area that will take you to it. This is a rather mundane and boring, sometimes frustrating, part of the game.

Sometimes the camera angles in this game make it so you can not see your character or get any sense of direction. Again, this is most often in the adventure mode.

The cutscenes in the adventure mode are well presented and timed. The fade from the adventure mode to the cutscenes is well paced. The graphics look great, and soundtrack well performed.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the sonic characters, as you can play and develop so many of them. If you like action or 3D platformer type games, you will probably enjoy this game as well.

This game is definitely worth a play though to see if you like it. I did, I own it, have beaten the game with several of the characters, and still enjoy playing it to this day. However, this game is hardly the best the Dreamcast has to offer.

"THE GAME THAT STUCK IT TO MARIO!!", I remeber back in 1999 and before that my friends and I each had our own video game console. One of my friends was the Playstation fanatic, the other was Nintendo and I was of course the Sega one!(still 'am)While I was the joke because of the Saturn console which I loved it didn't provide much in the graphics department. But then Sega announced their new console the Dreamcast I was estatic and my friends were nervous. When I showed them Sonic Adventure they were blown away. Super Mario 64 looked like a piece of crap with the dreamcast capabilities. This game had it all great sound, incredible graphics and killer gameplay. It the best and original of any port. So buy it now! BUY A PIECE OF HISTORY! (though by looking at the graphics it looks like a piece of the future!!)

"One of the Best!", When I heard of this game 2 years ago, I knew I had to have it. I saw the amazing CG feature on Sonic Mega Collection, and I bought a dreamcast just to get Sonic Adventure. When I saw that the graphics really weren't so great, I thought it was gonna be a bomb to me. But after playing it, I realized that I was wrong. I grew to loving it.

Pros:Everything except the cons.

Cons:Graphics(Which SADX fixed anyway)
The CG opening never appears in the game
The fact that whenever you enter another area of a town, the music stops(which SADX also fixes)

Ever since the SADX Director's Cut version came out just 5 months after I got the original, I haven't been playing the Dreamcast version so much. But occasionaly I give it a spin for old times sake. Great game, but don't buy it if you already have SADX, unless you're a collecter I like I am, or was, seeing as the Sonic series is dead and has been dead since Sonic Heroes came out.

"Sonic Adventure", Loved this game. I was hooked on it for some time after first buying it. Really liked the sort of freedom Sonic had in this game. The missions and levels that Sonic played in are fun and keeps you wanting to play it for longer. Loved the control of Sonic, loved the graphics. Overall its an awesome addition to the Sonic series. Recommended game for people that have the Dreamcast.

"One of the best games of all time!", From the moment you put this game into your Dreamcast, you will be immediately astounded by how good the graphics, the gameplay, and the story is. This is truly one of the greatest games of all time. The story is so massive, so detailed, and so original, it will have you hooked on the game.
The spotlight shines on Sonic. He has 10 levels he has to go through. He has the usuall "run through the level" type levels. Tails races sonic through half the levels sonic has to go through. Knuckles has to look for pieces of the master emerald. He digs, punches, flies, rolls, he can do anything. Amy just runs away from a robot. E-102 is super cool. He shoots things, adding time to the clock. And Big the Cat cruises and fishes the whole time.
The finale is incredible! Super Sonic against the hugest water monster you've ever seen.
Get this game at all costs! The gameplay is fun, the soundtrack is superb, Everything about it is great!!!

"Sonic Adventure", This game is simply awesome. For one thing, you get to choose between 7 characters (the 7th is secret). As Sonic, you simply go through the level to the end. As Tails, you race another character to the finish. As Knuckles, you must search for emerald shards. As Amy, you run from a psycho robot, while leading a flicky to the safety of a hot air balloon. As E-102, you complete a task. And as Big, you... go fishing(groan!). This is the 2nd best Sonic game and number 6 on my favorite games list. It boasts incredible graphics, awesome gameplay, and the character voices are great. And if you dont have a dreamcast, its also for gamecube. If you have neither, get one of them, quick! So get this game. You wont regret it.
