"Excellent!! Reference Book "
Excellent reference book for independent learners and learners taking s Sapanish course . In my opinion, it will help with increasing one's understanding of, "how to say (or want to say) in Spanish" and "what you said {or want(ed) to convey} from your thoughts in English" and how to say it.

"spanish lesson book"
This is a difficult book for beginner-level spanish language students. I kept it b/c I understand that it is one they use at the immersion course I will be taking soon in Mexico.
Probably will not use it before that or subsequent.

"Dios mios!"
THIS BOOK IS WONDREFUL. I already speak a couple of languages, but this book is even magnificent for one who only speaks their native tongue. It simply focuses on grammar--not on useless vocabulary that you can pick up as the days go by, but the method of how words are laid down together! Wonderful!

"Great Book"
An excellent tool. It covers verb conjugations and tenses well, and the grammar teaching is excellent. It even covers minute grammar points you probably won't find anywhere else.

"Great book for those who are struggling in spanish"
I too was struggling in spanish until i found this book. This book has all the things that i ever need to know about spanish, and it even has verb conjugations. The best thing about it is that every thing is translated in english.

"The Most Useful Spanish Grammar Reference I Own", I bought this grammar reference as part of the TOPT study set by the same author. During my study, I found myself increasingly relying on this little red book as the fastest and easiest place to double-check my Spanish grammar. The whys and hows of Spanish grammar aren't buried in between long lists of vocabulary and workbook exercises. I can quickly and easily locate what I need to know, which is precisely what one needs in a reference book.
As a secondary Spanish teacher, I've found myself using this reference to augment and sometimes replace the grammar explanations found in the textbook. The clear and simple breakdown of Spanish grammar found in Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners works well with both my Spanish I and Spanish II students. With my beginning level students, the simple and clear explanation of the most basic parts of the language (usage of nouns, articles, adjectives etc.) has helped to clear up the confusion that the textbook explanation often leaves behind. With my second year students, I completely discarded the textbook for teaching preterite and imperfect and have used the explanations and ideas in SGIL to teach my students how to tell a story in the past. For myself, I've found that the section at the back of the book that lists verbs with all of their complements is something I don't want to be without.
From my beginning first year Spanish students to my own post-graduate study, I've found Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners to be the best grammar reference out there for all levels. It sits on my desk right beside my Oxford Spanish dictionary.

"Perfect Starting Point and Indispensable Reference", This book has been so useful to me, I had to write. When I started learning Spanish, I bought this and read it straight through (well, except for the appendices). It's a great overview of the language and I'm about to start over and read it again.

I use the conjugation tables almost every day instead of "501 Spanish Verbs" or the "Verb Manual."

It's so packed with what you need to know that if I had to pick one book to take on a trip, I'd have to think long and hard before choosing between this and a dictionary.

"I strongly recommend SGIL for intermediate spanish students", I have been studying Spanish for about a year, taking Spanish classes in Mexico, Central America and South America. When not taking formal classes, I study on my own, using high school textbooks I find locally (e.g Peru), reading books and newspapers, watching T.V. and movies, and conversing with the locals. At this point, I would classify my proficiency as intermediate to advanced. Now that you know where I coming from here is my review.

The SGIL generally answers any question I have about Spanish grammer. It provides clear and concise explanations in English, with numerous examples in Spanish and English. The index and the page number references used throughout the text make it easy to quickly find any topic of interest. There is an extremely useful list of verbs with examples of different usages, meanings, complements, and modes for each verb. The only thing I have found not to like is that a few times I have looked for verbs in the verb list that were not there. Bottom line, I am very pleased with this purchase.

"Innovative Approach designed for the self-learner ", There are a few things that you need to learn Spanish on your own.
Besides a Spanish verb conjugation book (501 Spanish Verbs - highly recommended), a Spanish/English dictionary, Spanish audio course (Learning Spanish Like Crazy - highly recommended), you'll need Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners. Alternatively, you can use the Practice Makes Perfect book series to learn the Spanish grammar. But if you are learning on your own you may like this one better. That's because this book was specifically made for the person that is learning Spanish on his own.

Although I sometimes have the opportunity to practice with native speakers, for the most part, I am learning on my own. This book is giving me plenty of value, especially by teaching me different self-correcting techniques that I can use in place of an instructor. Avigail Azoulay and Arie Vicente's self-correction method has also helped me build my confidence in speaking Spanish without the aid of a Spanish teacher.

If you are an independent learner, get this book, get 501 Spanish Verbs, and get Learning Spanish Like Crazy (Nivel Uno and Nivel Dos), and you'll learn plenty of Spanish without attending classes or having an istructor. If you are not an independent learner and need someone to keep you motivated to study, then you shouldn't even be considering this book.

"Nice reference book", This book has helped me with my Spanish studies. I've used it as a reference book in addition to class materials, and also while studying idependently. Good presentations for almost any grammatical topic for a beginning to intermediate student. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't give you the English definitions for the verb complements at the back of the book.

"As good a reference as you could ask for", Having studied Spanish in college and maintained it for the last few years, I have found this grammar book as good as any of its peers. It is easy to use and explains the complexities of Spanish grammar easily. Nuff said.

"Very Good guide", Very Good Self study guide, used as an addition to audio course.

"Great reference for Spanish Grammar", I purchased this book to use in conjunction with Spanish grammar courses taught by Dr.'s Arie and Avigail Vicente in Texas and in Mexico. I consider these professors, Dr. Arie Vicente, now deceased and Dr. Avigail Azoulay Vicente to be the best of the best in Spanish language instruction. I studied Spanish under their teaching and used this text as a constant reference. Now as a bilingual teacher I still use this book as a valuable tool.

"Who Needs an Instructor?", As a person that is primarily an independent learner of Spanish, I have found this book to be an absolute-must-have tool. But what I found most helpful were the conjugation charts. Although I have been studying Spanish for quite some time now, at times, I still find myself at a loss for words especailly when trying to think of the proper verb tense to use. Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners fills that gap by providing comprehensive verb conjugation charts that enable the reader to quickly find the proper verb tense. Not only does the book allow the reader to find the proper verb tense, the book's independent learning style commits the proper verb usage to memory.

The author accomplishes this by incorporating a very unique method that allows the student to correct herself, eliminating the need for a Spanish instructor. I have found this correction method very helpful because it requires me to "think" not just memorize and repeat. By thinking about my mistakes and why my mistakes are in fact wrong the grammar lessons are committed to memory.

The book is not intended to be an end in itself -- but a very valuable tool. You will still need an excellent indenpendent learning course to use with the book. For more formal Spanish I recommend Pimsleur Spanish to use with this book. If you prefer the less formal or more casual Spanish, you may wish to try Learning Spanish Like Crazy. I have made excellent results using either course with Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners.

"Most EXCELLENT and INCLUSIVE book EVER!", This is definitely not the ordinary book that you find in any store which contains some grammatical points and a few exercises in the back. As a native speaker of Spanish I must say that I have never encountered a book with such rich and comprehensive content. It would indisputably be an indispensable asset to any Spanish program and/or personal library.

I strongly encourage everybody who is really interested in studying the beautiful-and at the same time complex-language of Cervantes not to do it without "Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners". If, like me, you have spent hundreds of dollars purchasing book after book, trying to find the best one, I believe your search has come to an end as this will be the best $26.95 that you will have spent.
