Others say...
"Dictionary Nice" Just big enough to to fit in your back pocket, but thick so it feels like you have a lift. What can I say? It's a dictionary.
"learning Thai" probably would have helped if I was familiar with the dialect and accents...as it is, not so good...but, that is totally my fault...will see if it helps over there
"Could be better" This book disappointed me and is not thorough enough. I would have been better off going with an academic quality dictionary like the Oxford Thai Dictionary.
"poor offset" Having had a previous copy of this exact text, well thumbed and now dismembered, I set out to replace it. What I received was a poorly printed copy with the Thai text almost unreadable. The size of the volume has also been reduced so that the entire font size borders on the undecipherable. Content is excellent. Presentation unusable.
"print microscopic" print microscopic, common words missing, small book, not what I expect from Benjawan, her stuff is sually so good. This is a waste of money

What our customer's say!
"This is the perfect pocket dictionary", For anyone who is studying Thai language,i highly recommend this dicionary. i was skeptical at first when i first saw how big it was as i have other dictionaries that are twice the size, but after going through the sections,i realised that this would be perfect for me to carry in my backpack when i travel to Thailand. The first section is English-Thai,the second section is Romanized Thai-English (paa saa Tai-English), and the third section is in Thai language-English Happy Learning!!!
"Good dictionary", I bought this dictionary a couple of years ago.
I believe it is genereally good (as most of Benjawan's books), especially for the beginner, although it lacks some important words here and there.
Unfortunately the book cover fell off (poor glue maybe?) the first time I opened the dictionary, which was a bit annoiying.
It would be cool with a more thorough all in one thai-english and english thai dictionary for the more serious/advanced learner. The phonetic part may be left out for my sake.
"A must if you go to Thailand", I was a volunteer teacher in a very remote part of Thailand in a school where I was the only Westener. English was barely spoken by just a few people. The dictionary was a life-saver. I just wished it had been more complete. But it is a compromise: nobody wants to carry a ten pounds book around. The dictionary is a "three-parter": English-Thai, Thai-English and phonetics Thai-English. Being able to find the meaning of words just by the way they sound is terrific. I also recommend Pimsleur Thai, even if you go to a non-BKK speaking part of Thailand (which is most of the country ;-)).
"Buy this book!", Hands down the best dictionary there is. The reasons are 1- it uses Benjawan's transliteration system, which is the best there is. If you are using other things by her (Thai for Beginners, Speak Like a Thai, Practical Thai Conversation etc. or Thai for Lovers (not by Benjawan)) it will be intuitive to use. 2- The dictionary is broken into English-Thai, then a whole equal (almost) section on PHONETIC English into Thai and then written Thai, into English. Having that phonetic section is incredibly useful, especially before you know how to ask how something is spelled in Thai. My dictionary (as well as many other people's that I have seen in their hands) is beat up!... because you -really- use this little sucker. The only down side is that I wish there was a larger version with more words and with the classifier words associated with each noun within the text of the dictionary. Having said that, I have personally by -no- means "outgrown" this dynamic resource. So, I think it is just fine as is, for its intended purpose. Plus, it is small enough to put in a cargo pocket. Even the electronic dictionaries can not rival its usefulness for 10 fold the cost!
There are a lot of other helpful things in the dictionary as well, including a list of those "measure words" or "classifiers" which are critical to proper speaking and there is an explanation of the written components of Thai that is very succinct and well done.
Until Benjawan comes out with something bigger and better, this is -the- best dictionary on the market. When I go out into the streets of Thailand, with complete confidence to face any situation, I leave my electronic dictionary and my phrase books at the hotel and the only thing I carry is -this- book..... and a few Baht ;-)
"Thai-English English-Thai Dictionary for Non-Thai Speakers, Revised Edition (Dictionary)", The book seems to cover most of the words I might need. The problem that I am having is the transliteration font is too small and light.

"Best Thai - English dictionary", This dictionary wonderful for everyday use or as a reference when studying Thai. I have had this this dictionary and another Thai - English dictionary for about two years. At first, I did not like this dictionary because the Phonetic Thai that is used is difficult to understand. After, I got use to that Phonetic Thai, I found out it is the best system invented (thus far) for romanizing the Thai language. There are three main ways to search for information using this dictionary. The first, of course, is to look up the English word and discover the Thai translation. The next way, is to "sound out" a Thai word. Then, search for that sound (via the Thai Phonetic section)and discover the English translation. This is great for when someone says something to you on the phone that you do not understand. You could just look it up without having to know how to write Thai. The third way, is to look up the word written in actual Thai. This dictionary's foremost imperfection is it's inability to contain every word that you will ever need or hear. I have been frustrated many times by this. But after two years, it is still the most used tool that I've bought.
"In-complete Thai Dictionary", Lots of everyday words where missing. Frustrating when you are looking at a dictionary, one just expects it to be there. 50% of the time the word I was looking for wasn't in the dictionary. Granted that some words may not translate, not that many though surely. Not the worst Thai dictionary but lots of room for improvement.
"Thai-English/English-Thai Dictionary", The beginning has very useful information to decipher this difficult language (vocabaluary, how to write the letters, what the different fonts look like). Then there is a large section for English-Thai (the Thai script is small, so you need a magnifiying glass for it), then a section of English written Thai - Thai script (very good but you have to learn how to write the English equivalent of Thai sounds). Third section is Thai script to English. I have many Thai books and dictionaries, but this one is the most requested by my friends learning Thai.
"Thai Dictionary", This is the best dictionary on Thai I have seen to date, and I have looked at a lot of them. Although the transliteration system (The Romanized version for English speakers) is probably the most unique and difficult to learn and remember, will easily result in the most accurate pronounciation. The transliteration system is worth learning, and puts all other transliteration systems in second class (as far as winding up with the correct pronounciation) at best.
The book has English-to-Romanized-Thai, Romanized-Thai-to English, and "real"-Thai-script-to-English, easily making it the most useful of all the ones I have seen to date.
As this dictionary is fairly comprehensive, it is also a bit thick, making it a little difficult to travel with, but this dictionary is a MUST for anyone trying to learn any Thai at all.
"Not the end-all and be-all but necessary...", Bad news: Print is too small. Anyone with eyes over 40 years old will be looking for a magnifying glass to supplement their glasses, just as one needs one to read the message he is printing here. But dictionaries are supposed to be reference materials, not teaching resources. I wrote to the publisher and asked if there was a version for people with real eyes. His response was that what you see (or don't see) is what you get. In both Thailand and the U.S. I haunted bookstore after bookstore for a more flexible dictionary and found none. Good news: in conjunction with other learning guides, this dictionary is the best. If you want to learn pronunciation, get something on disk. Until someone comes out with something in larger print, this is as good as you'll get.
