"This book sux", If you are looking for a good book on bass and are just starting out, DO NOT get this book. It's very short and does not have a lot of information in it to get by on. The "Bass Guitar for Dummies" book is way better and much more informative.

"Eh... ", Got this for my wife who's just learning to play bass. She's been moving along. She's not familiar with guitar, so this book is neccesary. Only downside is that it didn't come with a CD to play along with.

"Very elementary", Had to go to near the back of the book to start. For totally untrained players.

"A quick kick start ", This book is a super quick and easy learning tool. It is easy to read and allows for you to study/learn at your own pace.

"Need more explanations", This book probably was written for absolute beginners. The book is only 40 pages long and spends 15 of its pages on background information on how to read notes, tabs, and on how to hold and pick a bass guitar. If you're a guitar player, you probably know most of this already. The rest of the book is a play along to the CD with no explanation why a particular note was chosen to start and to end on. So you can't really create your own bass line for different songs even after you complete the lessons. It's a short book so you can go through the material in few days. If you had no exposure to music in the past, this book will start you off and help you become familier with the instrument. If you are looking to learn more, perhaps books on bass by Berklee school of music is a better deal.

"Raise the Roof", I have been playing guitar for 10 years and know what it takes to become a serious guitar player. I bought this book for a church youth group kid who is a true beginner at playing any instrument. It is the best bass guitar book ever written for beginners. I have tried to find a bass guitar tutorial over the internet that is free, but this book was worth paying the $8.95. This book comes with a cd that provides a thorough tutorial. The voice on the cd and the play-along segments made me feel like I was getting a private bass lesson from a professional. If you're debating whether or not to get this book, I would say that if you're a beginner and want to learn the basics of bass guitar as well as the slap/pop technique, I strongly recommend this book. Don't forget to check "yes" if you thought that my recommendation was helpful!

"Slap & Pop", As a oldie but goodie bass guitar player, I found Dale Titus' book very good and it helped me out a lot. I learned some new riffs and I am learning how to slap/pop...he explains just how easy it is to do and the CD is great. All the songs on the CD are good and easy to play. Thanks Dale for putting back the spunk in my bass playing.

"I bought this for my kid...", who wants to teach himself to play the Bass Guitar. I wasn't even interested, until I saw how easily it could be done with this book. Now, the kid gets mad at me when he catches me practicing on his Bass...

"Bass Teaching Book for Bass Pros", This book stinks. It takes for granted that you know certain things that most begginers don't know. Its also very small and doesn't even cover Scales. It didn't help me at all and got me frustrated. It tells you to do things but it doesn't tell you how to pull them off, like technique. Also it is a very "closed" book and doesn't offer any styles besides the norm. I definitely don't recommend.

"Excellent Starting Point", When our bass player quit I was asked to try the bass (I am an acoustic guitar player). This book taught enough skills so I was effective within a matter of 2 weeks of practice. Excellent book, especially the play along CD.
