Others say...

"Dissapointing"
Not what it's cracked up to be. Not enough foods to choose from.

"Glycemic Index information"
This book is repetitive in some ways, but the information provided is easy to understand and the food lists and menu suggestions make it easy to latch onto the concept. A good reference for diabetics and nondiabetics alike.

"Good for what it contains."
Good quick reference, solid information, however I thought the shopper's list would be more extensive. The information it holds is good...except it is not oriented to an American audience at this time...many brand names included are not typical American fare.

This is not a major detractor from the real information it's imparting, just annoying to find something you know you can eat, only to find you have to have it imported. Luckily time will improve all such lists as this, so I'm willing to give it 4 out of 5 stars.

"No Shoppers Guide"
I took it with me to the supermarket and it was of very little use. On the one hand there is too much information to wade through and the other too little. The too little is the 'guide' part. What we need is a little book with comprehensive listings only for quick reference in the supermarket aisle. I subsequently took some time to do my research, then made my own list and had it laminated!!

"Limited"
The list is limited. I was expecting something more like a calorie count book, that also included the glycemic index value.

"Good idea, but not in my store", The Shopper's guide seems to be a pretty comprehensive list of glycemic values, the problem is that almost none of the products listed are ones sold in my local grocery stores. I am wondering if the list is of Canadian brands since that is where the glycemic index diet first took hold. I plan to try to look for another similar book with brands that are available here.

"Great shoppers guide", A handy book to take shopping with you - very informative and helpful. Wish I had had this book sooner.

"not worth the money", Although this is a very inexpensive book, it is of little value unless you know absolutly nothing about GI values. If you are a true novice in this area, buy the book.

"G I Values thoughts", I think I need more of an explanation of the basis for Glycemic Values than this book gives. The products mentioned are mostly Australian brand names, I think, so it's not as much help as I pictured.

"The New Glucose Revolution - Shapper's GI Values", This is a good, usable, guide. The first half of the book is devoted to teaching what the GI is, how to eat by it and common sense advice on how to live with it. The last half is a well arranged guide to GI values. One caution: Continue to read lables. Case in point: Rye bread, seeded is shown to have a GI of 51. True of the loaf they tested but I found Rye bread in the stores whose primary ingredient was good ol' enriched wheat flour and, in one case, less rye flour than caraway seeds! (I base this on order in which ingredients are listed). This book missed getting four stars from me because I'm unfamiliar with many of the Brand Names shown - I live in the US not Australia. Overall - Good Book. I recommend it highly.

"good guide", I found this book to be a good tool to use while shopping for low glycemic foods. It's small and fits in my purse so I can take it out to help me make good food choices. The complete food list is limited but as the title says, it's a guide, not a complete listing of all foods. Many haven't been rated as yet. I like this book.

"Your Grocery Roadmap", Here is a great reference book to have on hand when cooking or shopping. Its compact size makes it easy to take with you.

"Good Reference", It's pocket size makes it a convienent reference to carry with you. I always have it if I just happen to stop at the grocery store or am eating out. Half of the book is dedicated to the list of glycemic values for foods. In addition to references in alphabetical order, it also has name brand products that you can look up. On the down side half of the book was informational material that I already knew, but it may be helpful for those who don't. I bought it for the reference list, and feel it's worth the money.

"Good, but not complete", I was disappointed that the entire database wasn't included in this book. On the "plus" side, there were many snack products included that I didn't find anywhere else.

"American Glucose", The little guide is useful as far as it goes, but so many of the products listed are from some other country than the United States. Meanwhile, common American products are not listed. I'd like to know where General Mills Cherrios breakfast cereal falls on the glucose scales but it's not on the list while cereals I've never heard of are listed. Are these Australian products? Nigerian? I don't know.

What is the most useful are ratings of foods that are not manufactured such as potatoes or grains. Since I mostly cook from scratch, knowing which foods to prepare and which to limit is very helpful.

But I'd still like to know about good old Cherrios.
