"Excellent resource"
I am in the process of writing my dissertation and I have found this book to be very practical, easy to apply and understandable. I wish this would have been available during some of my masters work and required instead of some of the texts that I had to wade through.

"Delivers as promised"
Book is an excellent introduction to research design for qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods designs. It explains all the components of a research design and walks you through each one, inclding the literature review, research question and hypotheses. Also, the first chapter goes through the different theoretical perspectives from which reseach proceeds, so you can understand the different paradigms. It also has lots of models, examples and exercises to work through. I used this book for a research proposal, and it guided me through the whole thing. The proposal was well accepted. So, I definately recommend this for any student to learn about research or anyone interested in putting together a good proposal, or an instructor who wants a good core text.

John W. Creswell's Research Design is an excellent resource for graduate students as well as doctoral students. In addition to addressing qualitative and quantitative approaches separately, it presents mixed methods designs from both practical and scientific perspectives. I coach many doctoral students working on their dissertations and this book is ideal for them because Dr. Creswell makes his points clearly and follows them with dozens of excellent examples. Each one is relevant and appropriate.

But with that said, I did learn alot from Creswell. The book has a discussion about the differences between quantitative reseach where you are testing a hypothesis, and qualitative research, which often involves more case studies and social science research.

Creswell also highlights mixed methods research, which is what I will be doing in my program.

There are discussions about the different approaches to quantitative and qualitative research. The post-positivist apporahc where it is contended that nothing can be known with certainty. There is also a pragmatic approach and a couple of other approaches.

The book was really dull. But I forced myself to read it, and learned some of the basic approaches to field work.

"good methods overview", Text was recommended by graduate school professor. It is fairly succinct and a good resource. Not terribly difficult to get through it.

"Excelent book!", This book was made for what I needed. It has a great review of the research process, it is practical, clear, very didactic. Excelent, excelent!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Research Student", This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in doing research. The book details the necessary steps for quantitative, qualitative and mixed reserach design. Each chapter has clear examples and easy to follow steps in the research methods. As a doctoral student with the University of Phoenix I found the material in this book very useful in directing me towards the process to follow in my dissertation method design. I highly recommended this book.

"Concise", John Creswell's book is a concise overview of how to do research design. It is precise in the examples cited and there is no "fluff" to the writing. I would recommend the book to any undergraduate or graduate student who needs a quick process book on how to write a research paper.

"Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods", This book is difficult. You may need to read over the passages several times to understand the meanings. It is helpful and thorough, though.

"Mixed Methods", I appreciate Creswell tacking the concept of mixed methodolgy, however I am looking forward to David Morgan's book on the subject due out in a year or so. Morgan will, perhaps, be a little more direct.

"Great text or resource book", Textbooks are supposed to be dull and obtuse. This one is neither. It clearly explains the different types of research as well as the components of each. Good resource book for anyone working towards an advanced degree or needing to evaluate research.
