Others say...
"It is what it is... which is not very good" The book does what it says... sort of. It is a prep guide. So there is some content that preps you... sort of.
The first chapter is probably the gayest first chapter I have ever read in any book... ever. It the "lets get excited!" chapter. The writer speaks down to you as if this simple exam is going to be the biggest accomplishment of your life and you will magically make "tons of money" once you get finished. If I was 16 years old, I would have loved it.
The worse part about the book is that none of the chapters have anything to do with preparing you for the test. The end of chapter quiz's, however, do.
They give you good questions and then good explanations as why the correct answer is correct. However, let me reiterate, It is a complete waste of time reading anything outside of the end of chapter quiz's. They are full of stupid jibber-jabber and contain absolutely NO useful information... I mean NONE. I challenge you to find one answer to any of the end of chapter quiz's that was even remotely discussed in the chapter that the quiz is for.
"Warning! This is not an exam primer!" I was very disappointed with this book. Unfortunately, at the time, it was the only book out there that claimed to be geard toward the SBS exam.
Specific issues I came across were:
* They are very loose with terminology to the point of being vague, or ambiguous. * They give detailed information (like telling us what the text mode of server installation does as opposed to GUI mode) but fail to mention if this knowledge is necessary for the exam. * Many of the "sample" questions have no basis in what was covered in the previous chapters. * The sample questions aren't even samples, as they were (by their own admission) written by someone who didn't take the exam and then edited by someone who did take it so as to remove any questions that were too much like the real thing! * The phrase "We can't emphasize enough the importance of exact terminology" appears two pages after they give the definition of "MMC" as "Multimedia Command Set"! (It's "Microsoft Management Console".) * In chapter 10 we are told that "top students. . . Selectively pick which topics are important and which are not [and] Have an innate sense to anticipate what content will be tested and what content will be ignored". Funny. I thought that's the kind of information I expected to find in this book.
The book was useful to me to get quickly familiar with SBS 2003, but it was certainly not the determining factor in my passing the exam. Microsoft's own online, free training was more informative.
"Read the book... pass the test!" If your goal is to pass the test, it is hard to find a more comprehensive manual to learn and review the material! If you take all the practice exams and do well (i.e. understand the reasoning behind each of the correct answers) you can be assured of passing this very difficult exam.
I studied this book the night before the exam (my only study material) and passed with flying colors! A great testimonial to a great reference!
"Fluff" This book is simply cash flow. The information it contains is best described as brochure quips. If there were any depth at all it is in the likeness of exercise questions to typical Microsoft exam questions. Who is to say if they are relevant because no one in their right mind would take an exam based on reading this book alone. If you can get a free copy, its worth it. Otherwise the cost of shipping makes this an expensive bookend for your library of real books.
Here is an example from Chapter 4, page 4. The reader is informed that 'anything and everything' one needs to know about Exchange will be given in chapter 6. Chapter 6 is on security; its title does not match the reference made to it in chapter 4 and the index has no mention of Exchange in chapter 6 at all. Aside from a few paragraphs scattered throughout the book, Exchange has only fleeting references made to it. As I said that is one example. There are so many holes that the designation as an exam preparation guide is misleading. I suppose if all you want to know is what you need to study, then perhaps this is a useful guide, albeit a long winded effort to delineate a study guide. The 'friendly', 'I am your pal', 'jaunt along the bikepath' tone and anecdotes serve only to catalog this work as a simple draft whose aim is to fleece its audience of a few too many 'certification' dollars.
I don't trust this material as adequate exam preparation and have found it of little use even as a reference in the process of working with SBS03; I can't recommend it either.
"Arrived in great condition and on time" Had no problems with the book condition (was great) or the delivary.

What our customer's say!
"My review", This bood was very well written and give lots of information on how to pass this test. But since it release the test has been updated and so has a new review guide, it can be found on smbnation.com. But still this is a good first book to get you started on the road to passing the test and setting up Small Business Server.
"Wait for the Rewritten version.", This book is approaching the end of it's life for usefulness. The Authors have a new version of the material to be released in December that should resolve the shortcomings of this book. The 70-282 exam has changed since this book was released and effectively makes this insufficient on it's own for passing the exam. The author's do have a good addendum downloadable from their web site to fill in the gaps. The information presented here is useful and relevent to Small Business server if the exam is not the goal. If you are buying it to prep for the exam, You will probably need to download the Addendum, and gain some hands on experience to get through it.
"Might have been ok for exam before revision", I just passed the test today after studying this book. The exam is no longer based on SBS alone, and most questions 60% could not be answered by this book.
I did like the style though.
It was probably ok for the earlier test.
"Less than I hoped", I purchased this book with the hope that it would help me prepare for the 70-282 exam. Actually, it appeared to be more of a topic over view for someone who has a great deal of experience with SBS 2003. I found that the author rambled a lot and left major gaps in the necessary information. There were a lot of references to material that was never explained, other than to plug two other books that he had written which supposedly had the answers. I didn't buy them because I felt the organization here was so poor. In addition, he provides case studies as quiz material, and the content involves questions on materials not covered in the text.
The other major problem is that this book is outdated. It doesn't cover SBS 2003 R2, nor does it handle Vista. As a result, some of the guidance is simply wrong now.
I finally purchased another book which has been very helpful in learning SBS 2003. I will go back through this book later before taking the exam, and hopefully it will be helpful then.
"Worst book ever", This book is useless for the exam and useless for learning SBS 2003. Could have put the whole book in less than 25 pages. I would give negative star if I could.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Will NOT prepare you for the test", Please, do not buy this book if you are taking the 70-282 test. It is horribly out of date, and I would say about 85% of the test content is not even addressed in the book. I took the test in July 2006 and was surprised by just about every question.
In addition to completely irrelevant content, this book also offers awful writing, layout and editing.
"Outdated", The exam changed may-june 2006, as a well focused book it is now out of focus. A more general book over SBS, like SBS 2003 Unleashed is more helpfull, although not enough concerning Exchange and some aspects of Windows 2003.
"Just took the test....", I just got back from taking the 70-282 test. I passed, but no thanks to this book. I realize the questions are randomly chosen, but I can not imagine it is pure luck that the vast majority of the questions asked were not covered in this book. The test is 41 questions and I would say about five matched up with what I read in this book. The rest, I had to rely on my experince as a network admin to get through. Even if you memorize every word in this book, you will still fail without much more in-depth knowledge of networking in general, Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003. It is really disapointing that a so-called "study guide" turns out to be so irrelevant to the actual test.
Bottom line, do not rely solely on this book.
"The gayest exam prep guide ever!", Please! What technology consultant talks like this? And how about practice questions like the one that gives you a choice of servers that use PIII's and 8GB Drives? Here's the way to pass the exam: Join the partner program at the registered level, buy the MAP subscription, buy a Dell P4 with 2GB RAM & a small drive array, then install the SBS 2003 that you get in MAPS. Hands-on, Hands-on, Hands-on. This book is for people who don't know DSL from USB. A waste of time and money.
"Harry is brilliant (again)", I just passed the 70-282 test today. The Small Business Specialist Primer was very well written, covers (although not in much depth) all the bases needed to pass the exam. To be fair, I also had a copy of Harry's 2nd Edition Small Business Server Best Practices book as well. I would give the book 5 stars if I was absolutely sure I could pass the exam with this book alone.
