"Art of McTavishing", They say a picture is worth a thousand words, having a dvd to view at any time and as often as you want or need is like having a teacher in the room with you, it also gives you the courage to start. I especially liked the advice to use a pencil first to doodle. Although the main thrust was for Long Arm Machines it also gave the information for those of us still using our domestic machines.

"Mastering the Art of McTavishing", Wonderful book, informative, easy to follow, great ideas for practicing free motion quilting, looks fabulous when done following her directions

"Inspirational", I found this book truly inspirational. Even though I only use a domestic machine, I can't wait to 'play' with this method. It has fuelled my ambition even further to one day own a long-arm quilting machine. Have yet to kick off the kids long enough to watch the dvd, but am looking forward to doing that shortly. The illustrations and explanations made it easy to imagine what can be produced, and the photographs of the quilts took my breath away.

"Practical, useful, inspiring", What a wonderful book from Karen McTavish. Clear, practical advice, excellent illustrations, a real inspiration. And the accompanying DVD is first rate, apart from the annoyance of the background noise of the doorbell in the shop where the filming took place...a little distracting, that! Still, after reading the book and watching the DVD a couple of times, I think anyone could make a decent attempt at a simple McTavish quilting exercise...highly recommended.

"Good product and good service", I was pleased - book was in excellent shape and service was very good.

"Good book, amateur video", I would have given this 5 stars, but the video is so amateurish that I just can't give it the highest rating.

First, the book is really top-rate. Clear instructions, great photographs, detailed narratives. McTavishing is not for every quilt, but it has many applications for those of us who are tired of stippling! Karen's ideas are really wonderful. The feathers are great fun and I find that even my beginning quilting students can grasp the ideas.

But, the video is just plain amateurish. It would have been far more helpful to have the machine noises edited out, or the instructions done as voice-over. I found the constant noise of her long-arm to be very distracting and really reduced my enjoyment of the video. At several junctures, I turned off the sound on the TV and just watched the movement. There is a segment with a hand quilter who couldn't even speak proper English. "Risin' the bar" and "Attention-draw-er" ????? Very distracting.

Overall, I would have liked to see a more professional video. But the information is sound and the technique is great fun. This book is a nice addition to any quilter's library.

"McTavishing", The tecniques were easy to follow and to adapt to a regular machine. You don't have to have a long arm machine to do this.

"McTavishing is fun, easy, and stunning!", This book changed my quilting life -- I'm serious. I've been making quilt tops for seven years, but I never could master meandering, so I just stitched in the ditch or paid somebody to quilt my quilts. But this book caught my fancy, and wow, now I can quilt, and the results are just beautiful.

I have acquired a couple of shelves of quilting books on all subjects, but this is one of the few that I've reread and put to use almost immediately. I just bought the book in October and already I've McTavished three quilts. Finally, I've finished some of those UFOs.

If you want a different, interesting look for your quilts, this book might change your life, too. The DVD is a wonderful companion, and I was surprised by the low Amazon price on this set. NO, this isn't a "paid commercial."
