Others say...

"Wow!"
Wow!, to this amazing book. I am so pleased with this purchase, I can't tell ya... I'll try. I am in massage school right now, blessed with great anatomy and physiology instructors, and great books (Musculino, Netters, Werner). Memorizing is not my strong suit so I look for as much as I can to help my brain log this info. This book gave me the missing link. I'm really beginning to tie this all together. It's angle on understanding anatomy is fun and more day to day, the illustrations are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Thank you, thank you for creating this fine piece of work. I am psyched to have this on my shelf for the years to come.

"Pictures are really clear, simple to learn from"
The pictures in this book make learning anatomy a lot more fun. The section on bony landmarks is excellent. The section on the planes of the body and ranges of motion are also uncomplicated to learn from. For example, the pictures on the ranges of motion of the neck made it really clear how to figure out the difference between rotation and lateral flexion.

This book was really good to help me study for the national certification examination for massage and bodywork. Other books that I also recommend for studying for the national certification examination include,

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Kinesiology) Volume 1

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Clinical Pathology and Recognition of Various Conditions) Volume 2

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Massage Therapy and Bodywork: Theory, Assessment, and Application. Professional Standards, Ethics, and Business Practices) Volume 3

These study guides had important, relevant questions and answers that showed me what was important for the national certification exam.

Trail Guide to the Body is a keeper.

"An expert guide to "listening" with your hands!"
This book nails describing what it should feel like to touch specific muscles and structures. The illustration is amazing. My clients love the trivia I learned from this book, such as the Soleus muscle is also known as the "second heart" because it provides so much venous return pumping! Buy this book and learn it backwards and forwards and you will know how to precisely and exactly palpate any major muscle on any body. You will most likely also know more than doctors do about muscles, which is kind of fun when you are working on them! Once you know where you are, then you can start the real work. This guide leads you there.

"This book has all the info a physical therapist needs."
This book covers it all muscles, bones, synergists, antagonists and so much more. All the information a bodyworker needs is available. The diagrams are clear and concise, giving action, origin and insertion as well as the innervating nerve and how to palpate, awesome!! The only downside is that it takes a little while to figure out how to find it, it can be a little cumbersome. That aside any bodyworker should have a copy of this book. I often find myself giving information to instructors!!

"Look out for the 3rd edition"
A third, revised edition of this book is coming out in July 2005. Should be worth the wait for anyone with an interest in bodywork, or anyone who learns more by touching and experiencing.

What our customer's say!

"Best Book for the medical field", I am currently in a Licensed Massage Therapy schoool and this is the best book. The illustrations are clear and detailed. I recommend this book to all future people going into the medical field.

"Excellent resource for all hands on therapists!", A most impressive and down to earth guide to understanding the essential "landmarks" of the human body with regards to the needs of physical therapists, massage therapists, or anyone that uses range of motion testing, joint mobility, joint distraction, or soft tissue massage techniques in their clinical practice. Very easy to understand and relate to actual scenarios without the usual heavy reliance on dry medical jargon. Highly recommended!

"I must have!!", A must have for all Massage Therapists! It should be the anatomy textbook in all massage schools!

"Great anatomy book!!!", I used this book while studying to be a physical therapist assistant. I wish I had found it sooner!!! It's fabulous. I provides a detailed description of how to find muscles, bones, etc. This is better than any other book I have used for this purpose.

"Never thought it could get better, but it DID ...", I received the 2nd ed. of this book in massage school.

I purchased the 3rd ed. to study for my National test.

WOW! I truly did not think this book could have gotten any better, but it DID! It shows all different views of muscles, muscle groups, bones, boney landmarks, how to find boney landmarks to find muscles, latin/greek roots of the words, study hints, remembering devices, WONDERFUL illustrations!

I also purchased the Student Workbook - which is an ENTIRELY new text with this edition - and it has a lot of different ways to test yourself to prepare for tests.

If you need to know ANYTHING relating to the muscles/bones of the body, YOU NEED THIS BOOK! Don't let the cost fool you ... it is NOT overpriced. I used to think it was (when I found out how much it was by itself - my 2nd ed. was included with my tuition at school), until I bought this new edition.

They added an obscene amount of new pages, and updated their illustrations to make them even EASIER to understand.

If you have any doubts about this book, log on to the publishers website discoverybooks . com - there are excerpts, downloadable pages, etc.

Hope this helps.

"Excellent resource and guide to musculoskeletal anatomy", This is an excellent book! Chock full of information, good drawings of anatomy/bones/muscles, etc. from all sorts of angles and interesting views. Essential for honing palpation skills for anyone studying or presently doing bodywork. The 2001 revised Edition is a total revision and has a lot more information than the previous 1997 issue. Worth the money.

"Awesome book", Trail Guide to the Body is an invaluable resource for any massage therapist or body-worker wanting to know the intricacies of the body, and the correlation of the muscles and bones. The illustrations are incredible, showing wonderful detail. Written information is concise, informative, and thoroughly presented. Muscles include such information as: the action, insertion, origin, and nerves. Palpation is also shown along with instructions on "how-to".

The authors have also recently released flash cards for the muscles and another set for the bones. I absolutely loved them and carried them around with to study.

Awesome book! Great reference and one book that I refer to time and time again!

"Excellent reference", I am a massage therapist and found this book very useful as a study aid for the national certification test for massage and bodywork. This book makes locating anatomical landmarks much easier. I also used the following which is on amazon:
The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
Vol 1 (ISBN: 0971999643), Vol 2 (ISBN: 0971999651), Vol 3 (ISBN: 097199966X)
These four books helped me pass the National Certification Test. The last three book were so on target with the type of questions asked on test.

"Trail Guide to the Body - A practitioners manual.", ...This is one of the best books on Anatomy that I have ever seen, from a massage therapy perspective, definately a keeper!...

"Great book for the money!", As an Instructors Assistant and an Advanced Practitioner of Therapeutic Massage, I've found this book a VERY useful reference and a compliment to class room and on site education.
The latest eddition has more color graphics, which is a welcome change from the drab 1st edition. (but either is sufficient)
I'm teaching a class in Therapeutic Massage myself, this comming semester, and am sure I'll recommend it to the students, and keep mine handy in class.
The details on how to locate and palpate the muscles are great!
