"Single lens for multifacted view", This book presents some unique concepts to try and answer in a simple context the relation of God to evil and our relationship with God. Unfortunately, The view is too simple. God is not an eccentric grandfather, and the book underplays justice to satisfy its version of a loving God. It is difficult to accurately depict God's nature because He is fully King, Father, Lover and Judge combined. To focus on one without the others is to not truly know God.

"The Shack", A must READ! You won't put it down.... It puts your deepest feelings into words!

"Unexpected Encounter", Last week, I was traveling in Nashville on business. I was given a copy of The Shack and invited to a talk/book signing with the author. I am a publishing professional and pastor who is an avid reader, often disappointed by books that don't measure up to the hype. But there was no disappointment here.

I was absolutely captivated by the imagery that the author uses to make God tangible and meaningful to the reader. The book challenged my conceptions of God, opened an emotional door for dialog with God about pain long hidden in my own heart, and expanded my imagination.

This book will inspire some and offend others, but will not leave anyone bored or unchanged. It is a quick and enjoyable read, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

"The Shack", Fabulous. Be ready to set aside your religious boxes and ENJOY the beauty of and the revelations of a God that loves you beyond anyone else ever could/would or should. We had the tragedy of loosing a daughter suddenly, this book is a healing balm in the face of loss, but much much more. Everyone experiences loss that can take our human desire for "hope" and put in on some dark and dusty shelve. This book blows off the dust with a power washer, heals your paralysis and moves you into your future. Don't just buy one, purchase six and spread the "good news" of faith and hope to those you love. Like my friends and relatives, they all thanked me with a huge "Ah, that was just what I needed".

"Good, not great", I guess I had higher expectations for this book based on all the hype and sales. However, I found it to just be a good, not great, read. The author did a wonderful job describing scenary, images and emotions; however, the allegory seemed a bit too contrived.

"AWESOME!", I love this story! It is an amazing representation of how God feels about us. You will not be able to put this book down!

"while its not theology", i am in the process of reading this book and i have found it very good. while its not exact theology, i do not think its intended to be. i think sometimes its easy to sift books like these through our own theological lenses. its easy but not always right,even though we may think we are. i noticed a few opinions questioned the writers inclusivism of other religions as being a road to God. when i got to that passage it said some "were" buddist,muslim,etc. i think the key word there was "were". the writer did not say God said "are" these other religions. so i think we must be careful not to make a fictional book pass such muster as to whether it squares entirely with the bible. many are the people who worship the bible and think they are worshipping God. its an easy thing to do. still, a great book that gets you to thinking about God and where he is or isn't in our lives

"Sentimental story carries the theology through", This book is essentially a theological message, one that diverges a bit from orthodox Christianity. And that's okay, and that's probably part of the attraction so many have found in this book. However, by itself, I doubt many persons would have read this theological treatise, myself included, and would have given it a poor rating. However, encapsulated in the sentimental story of the abducted and murdered girl, whatever theology would have been put inside would probably have worked, and hence my high rating.

"Healing and Inspiring", I loved how the author so clearly depicted the heart of God. Don't get stuck on 'theology' with this one. It's not about right and wrong...it's about the heartbeat of God for each of us and it's only , in knowing God in this personal of a way that our hunger to connect with our Maker can be satisfied.Susie M.

"Overcome your skepticism and read it -- it's wonderful", I approached this book with deep skepticism, thinking it would be a sobby, heart-on-sleeve, book club Oprah-popular religious testimonial which would undoubtedly suffer from poor writing and inconsistent logic. Not the ideal receptive audience, I admit. Nonetheless, I picked it up and read it on my brother-in-law's recommendation, and I ended up in tears halfway through. I am not normally a big softie; I don't like feel-good movies or books; I don't read romance novels or watch soap operas; I am not an evangelist. I distrust organizations of all kinds, including (if not especially) religious organizations. So I was taken aback to be so affected by this book. Obviously, it won't appeal to doctrinairians, but it's not meant to. It's more like an emotional stab to the soul which proposes to wake you up to the spirituality all around you and let you return to belief in Christ (and God) as an original moving force in your everyday life.
