"Very good Standard cards"
This are great begining or regular used deck. I always liked the symbolism of this deck.
The cards feel nice and are not cheap or flimsy, great for practicing.

"Pop Icon now, totally different then..."
I was able to get my hands on a rare 1st printing of this now classic gem of Tarot. It has been the basis of all modern decks to follow. The colors are a bit more accurate in this edition. The texture is different from modern editions; less shiny and somehow more vibrant than more modern printings. The backs are unimaginitive with those horridly busy lines. Turn them over and there is a modern pop image that is recognizable to anyone that has ever seen the cards. Interestingly, this early edition from 1971 was not published by U.S Games, rather Samuel Weiser.

I remember my first encounter with these cards was in 1985. It was a little creepy looking at the then, unfamiliar images. There was not many other decks to choose from at that time. I began memorization of each card and tried my first consultation for myself. I was not put off by lurid rumors after that initial year. I would move on to other decks through the years. These cards would be referenced for many readings to come. Looking back, this was an invaluable lesson for myself.

"Be all that you can be ............."
There are many unusual packs of Tarot cards on todays market, many apparently aimed at various deviant groups and which employ symbolism peculiar to that deviancy. The Rider-Waite deck is not applicable to such groups but rather to the majority (one hesitates to use the word 'Normal') of us who tend to share similar archetypes, or symbols.

Designed by Dr. Arthur Waite and executed by the artist Pamela Smith, the deck is crisply and carefully printed in full color by U.S. Games System Inc., recognizing normal symbology and presenting it's greatest utility to the majority of Tarot students.

For a first deck (and even perhaps your only Tarot deck) you simply cannot go wrong! Something that is not necessarily true if you wish to use the various "collector" decks.

"Pretty Happy with my Cards"
I received my Cards today. Unlike some,I do like the look because I do like the antique look I just wish the instructions were a little better for us beginners. One minor problem was the card box was a little bent up,But the cards were wrapped and looked great so I am not gonna complain. All in All I was very satisfied..Soon as I find more info about what the cards that have no names,(just plain) mean, then I should be happier..hehe (Thumbs Up from me and I would suggest them to others.)

What our customer's say!

"Rider-waite Tarot Deck", I was a little disappointed with the quality of this item. They seemed to be cheaply mass produced but, they would work for a beginner. To be honest though I may have been spoiled by the fact that I have a 1972 vintage set of Rider-waite cards and the quality is much better.

"THE Tarot Deck", A true classic, which any reader should own. Nice job on the color, etc. Definitely worth the money in my opinion.

If you're just starting tarot, this is the deck I would recommend. Most books are based upon it, or at the least, have mention of it and the card meanings.

A good foundation for all tarot readers, old and new.

"At First", At First I was not a fan of the traditional Rider Waite Tarot. As the artwork is simplistic and I typically enjoy more flash and pizzazz. I also did not understand them. Recently, I have (and still am) learning the Tarot online with Cyndy Green and am using the Rider Waite Tarot with my Tarot JournalTarot Journal and Daily Spread JournalsDaily Spread Tarot & Oracle Journal to work all of my learning modals (visual, tactile audile) as I am finally learning the cards. All of these has helped me finally be able to recognize and understand what the cards mean when I see them...without needing a book to read the interpretation from! With the online formal training to understand the Rider Waite in simple words, I really enjoy the simplicity of the original deck and even learning about the meaning of the colors. Once you get the knack of these cards down, they are really easy to interpret and an excellent place to start because of all the universal collective energies behind this deck and similar Rider Waite versions. Definitely an excellent starting point as you will be able to draw off of the thoughts of so many others who have spent time interpreting these cards.

"CARDS", The cards were too small and the descriptions in the box did not match the info from the website. Overall not bad.

"A Good Deck for Beginners", This is a good deck to start with before your skill level rises to where you want to chose another "more exotic" deck.

"Great", Known as the Universal Tarot deck, I was attracted to these cards and their artwork. Beautiful and very symbolic. The cards themselves are a good size and they seem to be quite sturdy. I'm enjoying using and learning about them. I hope to use them for many years.

"A Timeless Classic! ", Created in 1910 by Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith, the imagery depicted on the Rider/Waite/Smith deck is the standard of symbolism for interpretation during a reading, and for that reason it is the serious readers first choice. If you are taking your first steps into the Tarot, what little by chance exposure you may have had to the Tarot cards was more than likely the Rider/Waite/Smith (RWS), or one of numerous variations currently on the market. One particular card from this deck was even depicted on the back album cover of a popular rock band a number of years ago.

It seems with a lot of the more recent decks, although quite beautiful with their vivid colors and lifelike imagery, the emphasis seems to be placed more on the art, or the artist for that matter, as if the Tarot was a tool for expressing ones art, as opposed to the art being a mechanism for interpreting the Tarot cards. The Rider/Waite/Smith deck was drawn using a much narrower palette than most, with limited shading and void of shadow. It isn't anything but a Tarot deck, and really quite beautiful from that perspective. In our opinion, it is one of the best ones for the novice or the seasoned professional.

We own several of the "art" decks, or "designer" decks if you will, and they are all beautiful, exquisite, mesmerizing, etc. in their own way, but the heart of the Tarot is the story in the cards and no deck to date tells the story in the cards better than the Rider/Waite/Smith Tarot deck.

"Perhaps a deck for beginners.", In my opinion, the Rider-Waite Tarot deck is the ugliest deck I've ever seen, and the most old fashioned. I can't understand why most Tarot institutes and teachers recommend this deck. Is it easier to learn? I doubt it. The drawings are awful and I definitively wouldn't dare to give a Tarot reading with it.

"The one, the original", This is "the" tarot deck. It was not the very first. That honor can be traced back to bored Italian Nobility, or if you believe the new age hype; back to Egypt and Atlantis (blah, blah, blah). But THIS is the deck that set the world on fire. Waite had already completed his private deck for his buddies in the Golden Dawn, and uncle Al had bailed for parts as yet unknown. the time was ripe for something new.

The "Rider Waite" deck is *the standard* by which all other decks are created and measured. Previous to this deck, the minor arcana were never illustrated. Pamela Coleman Smith changed all of that, and it took almost 100 years to get credit at all in the deck. Now she has her own trading card (like Mickey Mantle). This deck is the one you will see most in movies because everyone knows the artwork. it is plain, crudely drawn, and artistically basic at an elementary level. All of these factors make it one of the most useful decks ever created. The primary symbolism is clear enough for instant interpretation, while the many layers of subtle sub-meanings reveal themselves on an "as needed" basis. This is a classic example of the teacher arriving when the student is ready. This is the best deck to start with (see my note on Thoth below). It is also a workhorse deck that will serve you well for your entire life (or career, whichever is longer).

The bottom line in using this deck is to read the cards, not the instruction manuals. That does not absolve you from study. In order to give even a halfway decent reading you should read every quality book on the Tarot that you can get your handses on. Study, practice, read some more. but when you read, YOU read. YOU see the cards. YOU draw from YOUR impressions, and when your instincts run counter to what you have read, toss the books out (figuratively) and state what you feel. That is how this deck works best. At various times you will be tempted to buy far more attractive decks. Test them out first. I have owned several "art decks" but other than art, their value was highly questionable. Always have a copy of this deck (see Thoth below) nearby "just in case." There is no shortage of books that will teach you how to read this deck. Pick any good one and start from there.

THOTH DECK: a comparison. Uncle Al left the Golden Dawn and created his own deck (The Thoth Deck) based on the model Waite cast. Aleister took his divination deck in a different direction, and while it is beautiful (illustrations by Lady Frieda), it's complexity require a thorough understanding of the Tarot prior to obtaining satisfactory results. As such it is best to start using that deck AFTER you thoroughly familiarize yourself with this one. Ignore this advice at your own peril. The two decks have completely different energies, Crowley's being MUCH darker, and more elegant, so you may [in time] substitute it for the Rider Waite deck at the journeyman and advanced levels. No matter what deck you choose, emember to practice and study.

"Tarot Deck", Deck arrived on time and in good condition. The Rider Deck is the only Tarot deck that I use, it speaks to me.
