Others say...
"Best Basic set of all time" This is the best, basic set to learn with and to carry anyone until they find their personal style and a set (or sets) that speak to them.
"It's a classic" This is a classic set, which includes mini size of the book The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite. Essential for any serious student of the occult, magic, gnosis, and of course the tarot.
"Wonderful!" This deck is great for beginners and veterans. The art is beautiful and I have been able to get very accurate readings with these cards.
"its awesome!!!" It was a gift for my mother, she loved it. Its really different from others that she had.
"The best Waite Tarot available." I thought I was done with the Waite Tarot, having given my original deck to my girlfriend and ever since I'd been an avid user of Crowley's Thoth deck. But this classic deck has tempted me ever since, I couldn't help but miss the stark simplicity of it all.
I'll admit, when I first opened up this pack I was sorely disappointed. I actually purchased it at a local metaphysical bookstore and, ironically, it was the only deck there that didn't have a sample pack for customers to examine before buying. I went ahead and bought it, since every picture online of this deck looked so clean, clear, and even. Well...
The first card I saw was "The Fool", and was taken aback at how similar it looked to the first version of this deck I bought (black & blue plaid backing verson). "The Magician" was also disapointingly similar to that deck. The tiny orange speckles used for pigment were a major turn off as well. But, it was too late. The celophane was removed, it was my deck now.
After taking it home, shuffling it, and laying them out, I almost immediately changed my mind. Within the first spread was the 6 of swords; the color shading on this card is really quite beautiful. The light blue backgrounds on cards such as the 2 of swords and The Universe are soft and antiquiated. Overall the deck kind of reminds me of the "vintage" version of Monopoly... which I really don't mind at all.
No, this deck isn't perfect. Then again, neither were the original drawings. I suppose I was expecting a drastic shift from the traditional, very poorly colored pack. I personally do not like the fresh and polished look of the Universal Waite deck or any of its variations. This 'Original Rider-Waite' is the closest one can get to a classical looking version of the Waite Tarot.

What our customer's say!
"Keep looking.", The artwork on these cards is not as clear as I would have liked. Must be something about the prints, but the lines are so thick in places you can't make out the elements of the scenes and the colors are terribly splotchy. The point of the art is the fine detail and symbolism packed into each piece, and this set loses so much of that.
"Nice But Crappy Quality ", They are nice cards and then can read well, but if you're looking for something that is of nice quality this is not... the picture quality is NOT that great.. whatever printed this really sticks at printing. Be warned. However this is a great tarot set to start out with since it comes with a nice little book.
"Rider Waite Tarot", I found this product to be exactly what I was looking for. It has very beautiful pictures on the cards and is the appropriate size for handling. I would recommend this product to anyone.
"I love this Tarot Deck", As a beginner of Tarot reader and a stranger to the western culture, Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck is more friendly and easily to get start. I even brought two Decks, one for playing and the other for saving.
"Great Item with only ONE Problem.", For those interested in Tarot, no matter your level of experience, this deck and book pack are a great value. However, those with less than perfect vision may wish to consider other similar items instead, or may even want to purchase a seperate book and deck. The book included with this pack is in EXTREMELY TINY print making it difficult to read.

"my favorite", If you are a new ager or Wiccan that likes flash and form, this may not be for you. If however you prefer the old ways, deep Western mysticism, and nostalgia, then this pack should be a delight to use. It is not "pretty" and bright like many, but I find it to have very deep "feeling" and the cards are more intuitive for me. Especially if you are into Golden Dawn or Western mystery systems, this is the pack to understand, as much of the symbolism is in there. But again, if you prefer something bright and colorful, for looks rather than use, then this is not for you.
"The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack ", I have a couple other packs of tarot cards, but this pack uses pictures that are orignal to the tarot pack, in line with most books written on the subject. As for the reader the pictures are easy to understand, out of the four types of Rider Waite Tarot packs, this is the far superior to them all.
"Nice additon to a tarot collection", I love the rider waite deck, I own 4 versions of it. I love to see the cards in different colors and different back designs. I have the Rider Waite, Universal rider Waite, Radiant Waite and Just got the Original version. What I like about it is that the cards a slick so you can spread them out in a line, This is good because some readers like to pull cards that way, The other waite decks do a poor job at spreading the cards out. The Back design is nice much better than the regular rider waite's Plaid. The Colors are soft, So some people bright colors are to much for the eyes, I don't have that problem but its can be nice to have a softer darker deck to work with, + Some clients may also like softer colors. The Radiant is very bright and is Full of color and the universal is light. The One thing I do not like so much is the dots on the faces of the people. But I can deal with that. This is a good starter deck, But If you want a deck with more color go with a clone deck like the universal or radient.
"Cool coloring but too slick, shiny, and poor print quality.", I am SO disappointed in this deck! I'd seen a well worn copy of "The Original Rider Waite" and fell in love with the coloring, especially the seafoam greens in place of the water blues in the other Rider deck I have (ISBN#0-913866-13-x). I also liked the way skin is colored with red pointalistic dotting, as if to indicate blood/life in the flesh. Greys in the other deck are done in ranges of cream/beige/tan colors in the "original." Purples in the "regular" are a deeper, richer crimson in the "original." Red in the "original" is deeper, less orangey. Often color is visually textured like parchment or done in crosshatching lines of color, or tiny dotting of color, which looked great in my friends worn copy. I noticed so many more things in the images than I had in my other Rider Waite Smith deck and I liked the idea of having a deck with colors more closely resembling the original deck and symbolism. So, I could hardly wait to get this, but when it came in, my heart sunk. Another reviewer mentioned how shiny and slippery these cards were, which didn't sound good... but when I saw it for myself, it was much worse than I'd imagined. They're coated in some kind of plastic that is so shiny light glares off of it. I had to hold the cards at just so an angle to see them clearly. The upsides of the coating -may- be that it can make shuffling more slippery, which some may prefer, though I prefer cards with a more "organic" feel to them. Or maybe the plastic helps prevent moisture absorption? I haven't tested this theory out, yet, but I prefer cards that can "breathe," exchange with the elements in their environment and our hands. Perhaps the plastic coating was a way to cheap out on the paper quality and durability of the cards. It seems a little like this, when comparing the feel, weight, and flexibility of this deck with my regular Rider pack. I'm wondering if this coating will peel up from the edges... in some places it looks like there's a visible layering that could peel.
Also, the black outlining quality is unclear, blurry, compared to the other Rider deck I have. For example, it's harder to distinguish the zodiac symbols in the Charioteer's belt, nor the other glyphs of his "skirt." For analogy, if this deck had been printed on a home desktop printer, the difference between the decks would be like setting print quality to "draft" at times, and at best "standard," rather than "fine."
I'm not sure what to do with these cards... same them for emergency readings in misty, damp situations? Give them away? Try to return them? I just hope I can find a printing of the "original" colors, but less slick, shiny plastic. Maybe there was an earlier, better printing for this edition? I'm hoping my friend will tell me his deck was once so shiny and slick, but time and use will mute it. I'll follow-up if I find out.
2 stars for the coloring.
"Of historical interest, but may not appeal to beginners", This was the first Waite deck I got and it just didn't appeal to me. The main problem is the blues of the original images that they reproduced for this deck have apparently all faded to a dull pale green that is very unappealing. I have since acquired the Universal Waite and find it much more pleasant to use. The Original Rider Waite is of historical interest, but I think will not appeal to many users. The packaging is well done, though Waite's Key to the Tarot booklet is less useful to a beginner than a book such as Rachel Pollack's Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom.
