"Review of The Rising" The book was well written and well edited. I felt that it was, however, slow-moving in some places. I would have like for the authors to have added more scientific information on the pregnancy, birth, and early years of the Antichrist.
I was left wondering about the DNA of the Antichrist and how he was genetically structured. But, it was a good read and prepared the reader for the other books in the series.
"The Rising" "Ray would do whatever he had to do to realize one of his two amazing dreams, because either one of them could bring him what he really wanted." This statement really sets the stage for how Ray is an aspiring and impressive kid. Read this book to find out what Ray's dreams and goals are, as well as what happens when Ray's "good" crashes with Nicolae's "bad". This disruption is believed to be part of the events leading up to the "rapture" event, as demonstrated in this book, The Rising, in the religious genre by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.
The rapture is believed to be when Jesus will return to earth and take all Christians up to heaven. This book is about events leading up to the rapture. The authors clearly portray several pre-rapture events in this long chapter story. The book is controversial, as it covers potential future events that have a religious theme to them. I found this book to be very interesting, based on how it is told from two characters' points of view. I thought the style of the book was exciting, as well as informational. An example of this style was on page 79: "As his solar-powered watch pushed past the forty-five-minute mark, Ray couldn't remain in the car. He stood outside, leaning against it, not caring who saw him. Of course, no one did, despite how conspicuous he felt. Ray studied every woman who came out of the store, almost every one initially looking like his mother."
This story takes place in a large city, and its theme is pre-rapture events. The style of the book is fast-paced, as there is always something new happening. The story starts out by talking about Ray Steele, one of the main characters in the book. Ray was a young boy at the beginning of the story. He enjoyed playing soccer and hanging out with friends. He was a well-behaved kid who aspired to become a professional athlete or a pilot.
Marilena is another main character in the story. She was a busy student. Marilena was married to Sorin, a very focused professor at her college, but their relationship was lacking. When Marilena started going to the library to meet with Vivian, things changed dramatically. Marilena became a very strong Christian. Then, Vivian found out that Marilena had an urge to have a child. That was when Marilena found out that Sorin was actually a homosexual, while Marilena was asexual. Then, Marilena and Sorin divorced and Marilena went to a sperm bank. She had a child, Nicolae, and that was when things broke loose.
Ray Steele became a pilot with a very successful career. Ray was a great guy, but he ended up with a huge problem. Marilena's child, Nicolae, turned out to be a chosen vessel to one of the greatest evils the world has ever known. Read this book to find out how "good" Ray Steele and "evil" Nicolae clashed in an event that will change the world. You will learn how this event will eventually lead to the rapture.
Reading this book went pretty quickly for me, though there were many details about how Ray and Marilena lived. Those who enjoy adventure and religious events will enjoy this fabulous book. I would recommend The Rising to middle school students and those older than middle school age. Those interested in Christian religious beliefs will enjoy this book. The book is very involved, as it switches between two completely different characters (Ray and Marilena) and their different points of view. I thought the authors did a great job of tying the characters' lives together to explain the start of the rapture. The Rising is the first of three books in the prequel to the Left Behind series.
Read this book to learn why many people think the world will someday change dramatically. My prediction is that the rapture is something that will occur somewhat soon and will change the world! I think the rapture will happen sooner than many people think - what do you think? Read this book to form your own opinion.
"Carol's review" Excellent - as usual TimLaHaye makes the story line interesting and captivating.
"Just one more book in the all-encompassing, enthralling, and utterly absorbing Left Behind Series" From the very first letter of the alphabet that my eyes looked upon inside this series of books, until the very last period of the very last sentence, I was hooked. Each one of these books absorbed my attention like no other book has ever done in my life. Biblically sound, theatrically entertaining, and brilliantly written, the Left Behind books will inspire you to dig into God's word and take the pieces of news from your T.V. screen and match them right smack-dab up with the prophecies of the Bible. Your hair will stand up, your heart will race, and you will find yourself helplessly caught in the suspense. Once you finish one of these books, you will desperately race to your computer screen or your local library to pick up the next one!

What our customer's say!
"An Amazing Thiller", This book had me on the edge of my seat many times and once I actually jumped when something happened. It is well written and is a prequel, along with two other books, to the Left Behind series of books. The Left Behind series is Biblically based thillers about the end of time. All of them are great reads - Biblical or not.
"Was this also about a time warp?", Here is my only complaint: They seemed to not know what year they were writing about in the beginning of The Rising. If you read the original series you would see that Rayford is in his 40s and Carpathia in his 30s, in the first Left Behind book. For Rayford to be 9 and Carpathia not born yet, the setting had to be the 70's, yet they are talking about cell phones and high speed internet. I may be wrong, but I really didn't think these things came about until the middle to late 80's. I am just now 31 and remember that people with cell phones in the late 80's were really something, since it cost so much to use or buy one. Rayford's parents are made out to be middle-class, if not lower middle-class. How did they have a car phone and 2 cell phones, when Rayford's mother left him in the car? And high-speed internet in the woods? There are people now-a-days, that live in rural areas that can't get high-speed internet, let alone Romania, circa 1970 something. Otherwise, it was an okay read. I loved the original series, but this was not as good, at all.
"a redemption from the "Glorious Appearing"", I have read all the previous books in the series. The first one was good, the second was really good, and books 3-10 were AWESOME. And the last one as we all know was the biggest flop in history. However I found this book redeeming, not only in the way it kept the reader's attention, but also with the toning down of the endless and repetitive scriptures that were cited in some of the previous books.
"Very Interesting", I have read all three prequills to the left behind series and I found them very interesting. They answer a lot of questions about the characters in the "Left Behind" series. I found them a good read and they were not too long but you will want to read all three. I recomend them to anyone who has read or wants to read the "Left Behind" books. I do want to reread the first book in the series just to refresh my memories.
"Very interesting", I found this book to be very interesting. I think they did a good job of creating a background for Nicolae and how he came to be. It was a creepy beginning that fits what a creepy person he became. I enjoyed this part of the prequils much more than the other two.

"I am very disappointed with the chronological direction!", I was so looking forward to book XIV advancing the characters into the Millennial Kingdom (Christ's 1000 year reign on earth) but, instead, the reader was thrown back in time to the early lives of the "Left Behind" characters. The first book failed to inspire me. The second book has been left unread and untouched for months now in my bookcase. Oh the heights thou has fallen Mr. LaHaye and Mr. Jenkins. My impression is that you have ceased to care about the reader and are more interesting in churning out Christian pulp fiction for profit and fame. Even Mr. LaHaye's introduction to the first book of the "Babylon Rising" series seems to beg and plead for the book's success. I highly enjoyed that series but why plead? Let your work stand or fall on its own merit.
Please, gentlemen, let's see the progression of the "Left Behind" characters and not a regression. Let's advance the characters into the Millenium! Now, I am the one who is pleading. :รพ
"A series for adults and young adults", This series is from a Christian apocalyptic perspective. It is compelling, well-written, and a good read, both from a literary point of view and a philosophical point of view. It deals with the road to the "End Times." The characters are engaging, the action is exciting, and the plot is well presented. The companion series, the Left Behind Series for kids is also worth looking into for the young set.
"More crap to milk money from christians.", How to write a bad novel: Take a bunch of one dimensional characters from a neverending series of books where nothing ever happenes. Then write a prequel about those characters. Throw in lots of Christian proselytizing and right wing moralising. Oooh... The Antichrists parents are homosexuals... I should have known...
How to make millions of dollars by doing so: Aim the books at Christian readers who will faithfully buy any book that is Christian, no matter how bad it is.
Let's be honest. The Left Behind series could have been made into a trilogy, but they so desperately wanted to make even more money out of the concept so they padded the story into (so far) 12 tediously slow books. And when the main story was finished, they started writing prequels, equally tedious. And not only are the books padded for lenght, Jerry No-Talent Jenkins obviously has no clue how to write interesting characters. "The Rising" is true to the style of the "Left Behind" book, except that it's, if possible, even less engaging, since, if we've read the "Left Behind" books, we already know what will happen to the characters.
Why do I keep reading these books? I guess I just can't stay away from trash culture. Unfortunately, the Left Behind books have no redeeming qualities. I don't mind trash literature, but these books are not just trashy, they are boring - and stupid. This one was too boring to finish. I can not recommend this book to anyone who isn't a die-hard Jenkins/LaHaye fan, and even they may be bored by this tedious book.
"A story of two boys", I had just finished the twelfth "Left Behind" book and was wondering how to feed my ravenous addiction to this series; then I found the prequels and eagerly started reading, "The Rising." It was surprisingly exciting and, I think, the best-written of the books so far. It's all about the childhoods of Rayford Steel and Nicholae Carpathia. Ray grows up in an average mid-west family, marries, and becomes a pilot. Nicholae is born to troubled parents in Romania; with the help of the mysterious Viv Inis he becomes a phenomenally successful entrepreneur with an eye on world domination.
Unbelievable dialogue was Jenkins' weakness in the previous books, but "The Rising" has a lot less dialogue and reads better. The narrative is swift and mesmerizing. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next to young Nicholae - his story was absolutely chilling and would make a terrific movie. Ray's life is more conventional but still interesting and well-told. The book ends with Nicholae, 23, about to enter the political arena; Ray is 32, dealing with marital problems and temptation at work. "Left Behind" fans are sure to enjoy this exciting prequel; it's a quick and satisfying read.
"The Rising:antichrist is born Before They Were Left Behind (Left Behind Preequel", I simply loved this book. Have read the entire series, this book worked perfectly.the author brought about the birth and rearing of the antichrist in such a dramatic and believable fashion. you will not regret purchasing this book
