Others say...
"48 Days" This will only help if you are looking for a job instead of developing your own potential.
"Helped with interview" This book was well worth the money and the bit of time to read it. It prepared me well for my first interview shortly after reading it. I just completed my third interview with the same company (different people). It also gave me some ideas outside of the box.
"Do "48 Days..." or every next day of your life will be a waste. " It wasn't until I was over 40 that I got on track with the life and career direction I was made for. Don't make the same mistake. This book, if applied, will be one of the most significant, if not the most significant, tool you will find to help you learn yourself and set a course for the fullest life you were created to live.
"Handy insights but not a lot of meat." While Miller's book certainly gave me some new insight into how to look for a job, he points out that his book is meant for a "hard sell" on a product: you. Unfortunately, if you're not a salesperson, this isn't easy. The steps are laid out chapter by chapter. The first half of the book really lays out the groundwork for the definition of work, our past conceptions of the job search process, and today's misinterpretations of a "good" job.
All of that is fine and dandy, but give me the good stuff.
Several chapters in, Miller gets into the actual meat and potatoes of the book: resumés, interviews, and follow-ups. The most helpful information I gleaned from this is that while a resumé is a great way to get your foot in the door for an interview, it is not going to land you the job. And while it seems only to be common sense that your personality will actually get you the interview, you'd be surprised at what wrong things people will say in them (and Miller provides plenty o' examples). He explains that 85% of getting the job is how you sell yourself and how well your interviewing techniques are sharpened. He also says you should make contact with the hiring manager (not HR, personnel, etc.) at least three times in order to make yourself remembered by the person in charge of hiring. Again, this is a classic selling technique--one used by salespeople the world over.
All in all, if you aren't comfortable with narrowing down your companies of choice, making direct contact with persons within the company, and making a "hard sell" of yourself, this book may not be helpful for you but may point out some parts of the job search that you weren't previously aware of.
"Worked for me!" I loved this book! It was the inspiration I needed to go after a career field I had been too nervous to enter into. I just went for it and landed my "dream job" within two months of reading the book! I would recommend it to anyone who is nervous about switching careers and who needs that extra motivation to do it.

What our customer's say!
"48 Days to the Work You Love", This book is very encouraging and incredibly helpful for anyone beginning their career search or for older workers looking to change jobs or being forced to look for new employment. I have purchased more than one of these books to share with young people after reading it myself when I was looking at a midlife career change. I would recommend this as a graduation gift or a great holiday gift for anyone in or looking to be in the work force. Highly recommend it!!!
"Great Book", This book was well written and very inspirational! I liked QBQ and this was just as good!! Highly recommended!!
"Don't waste your time or money", Don't waste your time or money on this book. Dan Miller tells you what to do but not how to do it. Everyone knows the common sense advice. But does Dan Miller give some new insight, approach or technique? No.
It's really just a front for self-advertisement of his other services and web site. Well Dan, I already bought the book and wasted enough money. And I'm looking for my refund...
Don't even get me started on the crappily edited CD-Rom that came with it. It sounds like Miller's 12 year old nephew taped and edited it in his basement on his boom box. Run, don't walk, over to What Color is My Parachute. Now that is a book worth reading!
"The "Dave Ramsey" of Careers", For those to whom "the whole college experience" is recent and whose enthusiasm and optimism are unchecked this book may be unnecessary and perhaps even somewhat unintelligible. Dan Miller has tapped into the positive mindset and self-confidence of youth, and may be less relevant to the recent graduate who has not yet faced a tough job market.
For everyone who's found themselves in a dead-end job or career, however, or whose college experience is more than a few years old or perhaps even nonexistent, or -- perhaps worst of all -- who has suddenly found their training and experience are "no longer required" by an employer, Dan has the proven ability to inspire or restore the youthful enthusiasm which once filled each of us as we saw the future full of endless possibilities and opportunities. Some of Dan's best "students" are people who have come to realize from his books and materials that getting laid off, "downsized," "offshored" or even fired can be the most positive experience in a career, the springboard from which to dive into a future which might before have seemed too difficult or too risky to pursue; not an ignoble end but an invigorating new beginning.
If you're fresh out of school and full of optimism, put the skills you've learned to work in the job market. Just be aware that the person you'll be asking for a job may well have reached that position by putting Dan Miller's ideas into practice. Dave Ramsey teaches people how to get the most out of their finances; Dan Miller gives people the tools to recognize and make the most of their God-given abilities.
The new grad may lack the experience to appreciate this book, but if you're not fulfilled in your current job, if you dread Mondays, if you want to pursue the adventure and fulfillment of seeking and doing the work you were created for; whether you have a job now or need one, Dan Miller's "48 Days to The Work You Love" is the doorway to a new beginning.
"Dave Ramsey recommends this book too!", If your not sure after loosing your job what to do...Get the book. If you hate your job...Get the book. It's a really helpful tool to get you where you want to go in life with your next job!

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Very Inspiring", I purchased the audio of "48 days to the work you love" for my husband recently. He has sinced listen to the audio and commented on how great a purchase this was. A couple of days ago we decided to get the workbook that goes along with it. My husband stated that he feels it is necessary and looks forward to diving in, taking a hands-on approach and completing exercises which seems necessary and very useful in putting together a career plan. Great!
"Religious claptrap", The description for this book should be a bit more forthcoming in the fact that this is "faith based". Faith is well and good, but it has little place in the job hunt.
"Should have read the reviews first", I have done a lot of shopping on Amazon and have found the reviews to be accurate and dependable. Unfortunately I bought this on the advice of Dave Ramsey and did not read the reviews. This book is awful. I have read a lot of self improvement books and this is by far the worst. I persevered to the end thinking (hoping) some structure would emerge. No such luck. As other reviewers have pointed out, this is just an endless string of quotes and stories. Half way through the book I found a reference to a site that sounded like it might be some sort of a form to define your interests. Turns out it was just a veiled advertisement to get you to pay $20 on Dan Miller's web site. Give me a break. Give this one a miss.
"One of the most useful books you'll ever own", Everyone should be doing work that they love, according to how they are wired. If you are unhappy in your job, this book is for you. Even if you are happy in your career but missing something, this book is for you. Practical and fun exercises at the end of each chapter get your brain moving. Life is short - love your work!
"This book is terrible...", ... worse, a cynical bid to take advantage of a religious angle to peddle this warmed over self-help junk.
Here are a few rules for governing the quality of any self-help book: starting from a perfect score of 100, subtract 10 points every time the author uses the phrase, 'The dictionary defines the [insert well-known term here] as ...'. Subtract another 10 points every time the author throws in a quote from another author or (in this case) Bible verse. Poor authors use these tactics to bulk up the text without having to think up words for themselves. Using this scoring methodology, the book is beyond valueless. It actually moves civilization as we know it Backwards.
There is Nothing New here. Nothing insightful. 'What Color is Your Parachute' did it much better and is the go-to book in this category for good reasons.
The author also chose to save money on the audio version, narrating the thing himself rather than hire a qualified actor that knows how to use his voice. His voice is monotone and soporific ... a dangerous thing to listen to while driving. He also apparently did the entire reading in a day or two, and is audibly tired (tripping over words and hoarse) towards the end.
There are much better ways to spend your money.
