"Teenvirtue: Real Issues, Real Life...A Teen Girl's Survival Guide", Teenvirtue: Real Issues, Real Life...A Teen Girl's Survival Guide is a book with a magazine like look and feel aimed at teen girls. Like most teen magazines, there are articles discussing the important and not so vital issues of being a teenager; quizzes; discussion about friendships and boys; discussion about fashion and beauty; and lots of colourful eye catching photographs and graphics. Unlike most teen magazines, however, this book does not contain advertisements featuring anorexic models wearing sexy clothing advertising themselves as fair game for any male who wants to treat them badly. Instead, this book attempts to illustrate that women are more than boy toys and that respecting themselves is much more important than attracting this type of attention.

Though aimed at Christian teens, I believe that most of the issues dealt with in this Teenvirtue: Real Issues, Real Life...A Teen Girl's Survival Guide would be equally valuable for those girls who are not Christian. Thus, I suggest that parents of teens buy this book and put it on the coffee table. The teen magazine-like cover will attract your daughter's attention and she will immediately start to flip though the book. No doubt, she will have some very strong opinions on the subjects included in this book. In this way, this book may create some very valuable opportunities to listen to and talk to your teen about these issues and other things happening in their teenage lives.



"Right Idea Wrong Direction", 90 percent of worlds population will have sex before they are married. Teaching Abstinence has been proven impossible. Vicki Courtney's argument that condoms only protect 50 percent of the time is inaccurate. Even If it was true, that is still 50 percent of the 90 percent that will be protected. People will always want to have sex, it's human nature!

"Teen Survival Guide indeed!", Vicki Courtney discusses real concerns of real teen girls frankly, truthfully and honestly without sounding preachy. I especially liked the chapter on eating disorders and fashion and the assurances that what's depicted as trendy in the fashion magazines is far from reality. She lets girls know that it IS okay to be normal....with a far more accurate portrait of what "normal" really is in today's world where girls are constantly bombarded with messages to be sexy and thin instead of simply enjoying their youth. An excellent resource for Christian parents and their girls, and for anyone else with a daughter. This is a great book for moms and daughters to read together, and would make a great gift tweens and teens. Highly recommend.

"Looks like a magazine; offers great advice", Looks like the best of teen magazines but carries real-world advice with a Christian perspective. I really liked this book! It had good, but not judgemental advice on everything from clothes, pierced belly buttons, tatoos and friends to boyfriends, sex and beauty. It doesn't go into explicit details... but it offers solid advice for teen girls growing up in tough times. I think maybe the best section is quotes from teen guys talking about what they wished teen girls knew! I plan to give this magazine/book as a gift.
