"Atlas review"
This is the best atlas I have ever owned. My husband and I travel out West every year and camp, so this atlas will come in very handy.

"Not quite what I expected"
Very good and sturdy atlas, although it wasn't quite what I expected. It doesn't give very much information reguarding "adventures" across america. I have since purchased the National Geographic Road Atlas- RV and Camping edition which actually has more National Park descriptions and useful information than the Adventure edition.

"not that good except the name"
it is from national geographic but does not mean it is better than others except it costs twice more. i think the one you bought at walmat is good as this one if you are looking the direction. the info about parks could be much more. the center sprial binding makes hard for reading continusly.

We bought this book for a cross country drive because the typical road trip books are filled with "kitchy Americana", something of little interest to my wife and I. I guess I hoped for a bit more with respect to the adventure aspect. It was basically a couple of really good magazine articles and an atlas. Don't get me wrong, what is there is very good. It's just not as much as I hoped there might be.

The book contains the following:

1) 100 single paragraph descriptions of Adventurous locations around the country categorized by region (east, central, mountain, and pacific) and then by type (hiking/backpacking, climbing, paddling, winter sports, biking, and birding).

2) 24 National Park descriptions, each consisting of a photo, a map, a series of factoids, and about three paragraphs.

3) A standard atlas published in 2004.

"great for the outdoorsman", A great way to plan a road trip anywhere, focusing on National Park and camping destinations. We used it as a weekend getaway planner for short trips outside the city, then combined it w/ TOPO maps for hiking and National/State park websites to reserve and pick our camp sites. Only wish they would update it (from 2005) as there are a few road changes, etc. that we found in Washington state and the Pacific NW.

"A Quality Well Done Atlas....Again", Just as good as the first edition. Most all states are in fact on two pages, so the maps are larger. This edition comes with a protective front and back page that hopefully will keep the atlas looking good and flat till the next new edition comes out. Great Product!

"Never Fails Me", I have used the 1999 edition on road trips for nearly a decade. It is the first thing I pack. Beautiful, accurate, informative, and reliable, it has made the going easier through many strange cities to many remote places in North America. Although I rely more and more on Google Maps now, I still wouldn't take to the highway without this atlas, and I am glad I can replace it with a newer edition. I've never found my copy dated, but it is getting a little tattered.

"National Geographic Road Atlas - Adventure Edition", This Atlas lived up to expectations and more! It is beautifully detailed and easy to read. A little large to handle but small price to pay for good detail.

"Perfect guide for road Tourist in USA/Canada", I last bought the National Geographic Road Atlas in 1998 for a road trip in the USA/Canada and found it to be excellent. I recently purchased the current version and it is even better with a section devoted to top adventures and national Parks in the USA. I have looked at other road atlases and they don't even come close. For anyone looking at travelling to the USA, Canada or Mexico and hiring a car, this is the atlas to get!

"National Geographic Road Atlas - Adventure Edition", This is a great road atlas. I find it to be real informative on identifying high points on any road you which to travel. Most important it is accurate and you can trust the maps.

"Wouldn't Roadtrip Without It", Easy to use in the car. Good level of detail. Used its predecessor for years and it is nice to have a newer version.

"Roadtrip Requirement!", This Atlas was the key to our successful road trip from Colorado to New Hampshire. The maps are very detailed and while the size of the book is a little big that allows you to actually read all the smaller roads and include small towns as well. We would've gotten lost numberous times without it and I keep it in the car with me now for my daily needs for directions.

"Excellent Buy", This is a very good road atlas. I gave it to my husband as a birthday gift and since then we are on the raod every weekend. It has very accurate maps and so we don't need to get directions before we leave. Also it has a very good feature of scenic drives so that we can plan our trip to cover the maximum scenery. This is a very good buy. You sure can start with this atlas and then probably move on to higher level.

"ational Geographic Road Atlas - Adventure Edition", Pretty good overall guide. You would still need detail guide on particular area you want to visit.

Ont thing I find it annoying is that I constantly have to flip pages to see the border states as I was planning a road trip from yellowstone to Mt. Rushmore. A little more details/area devoted to the border states would help. Or group the pages by geographic region.
