"Book shows you how to set up properly"
I like Express over the competition because it has unlimited accounts, customers, vendors and items - only limited by disk space. It's quality accounting software handling invoicing, bill paying, check writing, deposits, etc. It does times sheets and can use ADP payroll very inexpensively. You can print checks and tax forms on your own printer - forget worrying about payroll taxes.

I also like the Microsoft Office Accounting Express product because it is very flexible, easy to customize your own forms, modify reports, and integrates with Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.

It's super if you want to sell on eBay, and create invoices to pay with PayPal - automating much of the process. And then download transactions from the bank for reconciliation.

The Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 Starter Kit contains everything you need to get started immediately. This book comes with the software to install the Express version of Microsoft Office Accounting. It walks you through setup, step by step, in the proper order, and warns you of potential problems - so you can set it up right the first time and love using it from that point on.

The book has a full glossary explaining accounting terms, and even suggests information to have ready or obtain from the accountant for setup. The book also has lots of screen shots, making it easy to use. The Starter Kit book even walks through moving accounting data over from QuickBooks and Money, and discusses other options.

Express comes with an Accountant View feature so the accountant can enter end of period adjusting entries without the business having to do anything other than a few mouse clicks. Good for beginners without a lot of accounting knowledge.

"Not very useful", This book is basically a rehash of the help files. It includes long descriptions of the mechanics of the program (how to open a particular dialog box, long listings of the fields on each form) with almost no explanation of why you would choose to take a particular action. It is all minutiae, no "big picture". This book will show you how to enter a new vendor record, but will not teach you anything about using the tool to help you run your business.

"MS Accounting", So far this product is number #1. I'm not much of an accounting guru but I found it pretty straight forward. Read the book, try out some trials and away you go. Good Luck!

"Excellent Book!", Excellent book!
Since this is free software from Microsoft (comes with the book) you can hardly go wrong by purchasing. For less than 20 bucks you get the software and the book, very good price for small businesses where every dollar matters.
The glossary is very helpful in explaining accounting terms for those just starting out in their business and new to accounting.
With the instructions provided it is very easy to modify internal forms for most any small business model.
If you have a home based business that sells products on Ebay this book is super.
All in all, this book provides the free software and walks you thru step by step on how to setup and easily use Office Accounting Express for your business.

"Would love more labs or examples", This is a good book for the price. Having read several, I would say that this is one of the better books on Office Accounting. It takes you through all the major areas of the product and explains how they work. Great. Now most beginners would probably like to see more examples or maybe even labs to really get the hang of things - I would love to see the publisher add these to their website...

"Not for beginners", Not sure what the other reviewers experience was but this book did not help with much except having the software with the book.

There were no examples to follow, she basically told you exactly what was on the screen without any further explanation of what it was or why you would need to use it. Also, if you are not an accountant or haven't been using a different program before then this book will not help you setup accounts or credit cards, etc. anymore than the on-line help will.

Save your money and look for a different book. This one will not be helping too many people.
