"Great effects accomplished easily", This is a superb "how to" book -- the author makes no assumptions about your level of knowledge, giving you amply illustrated, numbered steps showing how to accomplish really terrific special effects. The book is not "dumbed down" but is also remarkably clear.

It's fun... and pulls you easily into the more powerful features of Elements without scaring you off of them.

"Hollywood Special Effects w... (Paperback) by Carl Plumer ", Wow!! This book was easy to follow. It includes a CD to complete the activities. It has screen shots that are clear and easy to follow. This is a great book--even for a beginner. It was well worth the investment.

"This is fun!", I have tried the Classroom in a Book (CIB) for Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements, and Hollywood Special Effects is a heck of a lot more fun. Yes, CIB is a standard no nonsense explain and do type of a book with lots of examples, but Hollywood beats CIB with examples that will have you showing off these 10 second clips to your friends and family. You'll probably want your family to be actors in your own clip that does the same effect as in the book. It is richly illustrated and points to every button or menu on your journey to finish each project. I never got lost and thought, hmm where's the 'Add Media' button or some other less conspicuous command. Another thing I appreciate is that each lesson or chapter does not assume that you know all that you should have known from the previous chapter. So a person could pick up the book and do the special effect from chapter 20 without reading or even previewing Chapters 1-19 ahead of time. I've been looking for a Premiere Elements only tutorial for a long time, and Hollywood Special Effects hits the sweet spot in terms of learning new cool things, getting used to the interface, and making one more effective and efficient in creating your own videos. Even if you never use these "Special Effects" in your own video, the shortcuts of navigating around in the program has saved me hours of time in creating my own home videos.

"It is Great!", I like how the instructions are very clearly written. The CD provided includes some nice sound effects, video and music-some of which are from websites that have these in their expensive collections. I think this book not only makes the projects painless-it makes it fun. It has inspired me to make many videos--using chroma key green screen, ghosting, talking dog, split screen, and a lot more to come.

"Hollywood for PREL 3", The book describes how to do about 20 special effects using Adobe Premiere Elements, Ver. 3.0. The author does an excellent job of describing the effects and how to set them up. I would have liked the book much more if the author described how to do many more special effects. I am left wishing I could do things I have seen in other people's work that are not covered in this book.

"Hollywood Special Effects...Excellent!", This book is one of the best instructional pieces I have ever seen. I am very pleased I selected it. Carl Plummer has done a wonderful job of extracting and presenting Adobe's material in a way everyone can understand it. The detailed instructional layout and photos are far superior to Adobe's boring, and exhausting operation manual, which appears to be written by engineers and techs with no clue to the learning curve of the consumer. I would like to see a manual written by Carl on Photoshop Elements 5 as well.

"Hollywood Special Effects", The book is a compilation of special effects and how to do them in Premiere Elements. Well almost. The first tutorial did not look anything like the original SW opener. But I still learned a lot from it.

"Hollywood Special Effects with Adobe Premier Elements 3", This is most definitely a book which is worthy of its 5 star rating. It is well written and well illustrated with screen shots tied to easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Overall, it forms a good base for many effects one could only guess at on their own; but inspires one to think about how the included effects could be used in our own work. Also like that the included DVD contains all of the project video, music and sound effects. Great book - well worth the money.
