"Great for Neophyte and Web-Wizard Wannabe Alike"
I have been using FrontPage 2000 for a couple of years now and have figured out some of the quirks and wiggles on my own. I sure wish I would have owned this book from the get-go. Now that I do have it, I am able to better perform my FrontPage tasks. The samples and examples are very crisp and clear, presented in color and are perfect for the visual learner. While FrontPage probably isn't the choice for those Super-Duper Web designers who wanna make a zillion (ya, right...wake up in the New Millennium!!), FrontPage 2000 has done all right by me. "Teach Yourself Visually..." is just the ticket for the homebody web page designer in all of us.

"Great for Beginners"
I had dabbled a bit in web design for a couple hours before reading the book. It was VERY BASIC and I would recommend it highly for people who are recently becoming interested in web design, but it was too basic for me. I was hoping for the book to have more intermediate information, and it did not. Now I am shopping for another book because this one was not complete enough for my taste. I would not have purchased this book if I knew it was so basic.

"Fantastic starter book"
This is the best book you can buy if you want to become familiar with FrontPage 2000 very quickly. I knew virtually nothing about the program when I purchased this book, and I have learned enough from it to become a proficient user of the program both at home and in my occupation.

The book takes only three or four days to get through, less if you are already familiar with other Microsoft office applications, such as Word and Excel. The screenshots and color-coded instructions on every page make this book very easy to understand and apply, and though it is very basic in spots (it outlines, step by step, how to save a page, for example) it does cover everything the beginning to intermediate user needs to know in order to use the program effectively. The only way this book might be better is if it included a tutorial CD, as many other instructional books of this kind do. Other than that, however, I recommend this book very highly, and I will be returning to the teach yourself visually books in the future, having found this one to deliver on its advertised promise: read less, learn more.

"Very easy but not deep enough"
I found this book very easy to use. However I find that it leaves many important aspects of creating a website untouched. I went through this book in about six hours.

"Great book to start with"
I am currently developping an intranet application and needed a book to get up & running quickly. I bought it along with FP2000 Unleashed. It tells you almost as much as the first half of the Unleashed book but with much less words. Obviously, it won't cover subjects like accessing to database or Office components .. But then you can go to a more advanced book if necessary. For some people, it gets very basic sometimes like using a mouse or cut & paste stuff that you normally know if you are slightly familiar with computers and word processing (strange that somebody tackling website development might not be computer literate ?) But who cares, it gets straight to the point and you get away with a sound knowledge after all !

What our customer's say!

"The best source of FrontPage knowledge for the beginner", This book is like all other books in the "Teach Yourself Visually" series. If your computer skills are limited, it is a great tool to learn the basics of Front Page. However, once you are done with it, you are done with it. It is essentially useless as a reference, and since you are now beyond the basics, it is now little more than a space holder.
Using sets of colorful and clear diagrams, you are walked through each step in the process of inserting a particular feature into your page. The chapters are:

*) Getting started
*) FrontPage basics
*) Work with web pages
*) Edit text
*) Format web pages
*) Add images
*) Customize images
*) Create links
*) Create tables
*) Work with navigational structure
*) Create frames
*) Create forms
*) Add web page effects
*) Manage web pages
*) Publish web pages

In summary, if you are unable to learn how to use the fundamental features of FrontPage from this book, then you probably can't learn it.

"A TERRIFIC RESOURCE", I got this book when I decided to start my own website. I knew nothing about web design or Frontpage. This book helped me create, not only a thorough and informative site, but one that is visually stimulating and easy to work with. If you get only one book to help you with simple web site design, get this book!

"It Doesn't Get Much Easier Than This !", Simple, to the point, and very user friendly. This book has great, step-by-step screen shots, clear graphics, & simple explanations. Avoids long winded explanations. Instead of just telling you it SHOWS you. Great for visual learners for myself. Give you all the basics of building and publishing a web page. Best for beginner to intermediate users. The amount of time you'll save by having this book as a reference is well worth the purchase price. Highly recommended.

"Great tool for someone new to Front Page....", I learned how to design a basic website strictly by coding HTML by hand, rather then using Front Page, or any of the other WYSIWYG editors out there. Once I had a basic understanding of what HTML is doing behind the scenes, I thought it was time to find an easier way to code and design web pages, so I decided to start using Front Page.

As other reviewers have noted, the book does not go into deep detail and much of it is very basic in its design. I found it was just perfect for what I was looking for though. I had the basic HTML foundation and wanted to know how to set up frames quickly and easily or how to layout an entire website using the setup wizards in Front Page. This book allowed me to skip around to exactly what I wanted to find and learn how to do it quickly and generally with very little problems. The examples are laid out nicely and are pretty straight forward and easy to understand and follow along with.

I can't say how good of a text it is for a person with no knowledge of HTML or any type of web design experience to use. It was just perfect for me to get a basic understanding of a new tool to use. If I have any complaint, it is at times too basic and it would have been nice to go at least a little bit into examining the things that can be done with Front Page extensions.

"Very, Very, Very Basic", I bought this based on the rating and the reviews. I wish I hadn't. While it is not a bad book, it is so basic that anyone who has ventured into beginning web page development will not benefit from this.

There are large sections on how to use the program's dictionary, or how to cut and paste words, how to use the mouse, how to change the font, etc, etc.

The whole concept is a bit of an oxymoron. It takes a very simple "Dummies"-like approach but instructs primarily via pictures rather than text. However, by the time someone gets to where they actually want to have a web page, are savvy enough to know that their ISP allots them web space, or even knows what an "ISP" is, and knows that Frontpage is a web development tool, they don't need to be taken step by step through how to add a column to a table. Sheesh!

If you just turned on your computer for the very first time yesterday, and you want to learn the basics of web page authoring today before you take on SQL database managment tomorrow, then by all means buy this book. But if you have average computer skills and you have basic word processing familiarity but you just don't find Frontpage intuitive and want to know how to use the program, buy something else.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great Book", This book is a great tool for beginners. I also, would recommend all "Teach youself Visually..." books if you are ever in need of informative computer books.

"Great First Book", I purchased this book based on the reviews I read here. It is definitely an excellent basic book for grasping concepts and for future reference. The visualization makes for a quick read with easier retention. It was a little slow to start with very basic concepts covered but was very good value for the money with topics covered beyond the everyday basics. I followed this book up with Microsoft Frontpage 2000 Unleashed which was the right choice. I recently visited a large bookstore chain to see if there were other books on the market that might fill in any of the gaps of these two books. I went away without anything further and reassured myself that these were the best choices to have been made.

"For the Beginner, Making a Web Page", I am a rank neophyte at making and publishing web sites. I bought three books: 1. Quick Course in Microsoft Front Page 2000, Online Press. 2. The Complete Reference, Front Page 2000, Matthews and Poulsen. 3. Teach yourself Front Page 2000 Visually, by MaranGraphics. The authors of the first two books made unwarranted assumptions about the level of my expertise, used words not in my vocabulary, talked about things I could not find. I was considering giving up, when I started studying "Teach Yourself FrontPage 2000 Visually". Whenever the author used a term not in my vocabulary, she defined it in language I could understand. When she told me to click something, there was a red line leading my eye straight to the thing I was supposed to click. In spite of the precarious state of my expertise, I am now the proud author of a published web site, and beginning to explore some of the fine points described in the first two books. This is THE book for a beginner.

"A great introduction to FrontPage2000", If you're a new user to FrontPage2000, I highly recommend this book.

It guides you through the essentials of designing a web page and even takes you a few steps further in a few areas of web design.

Although, you will want other resources as your experience increases, this is a great "first" book to start with.

"This is the book to use", If you want to learn frontpage 2000, and want to learn fast, visually, and also have a good time, this is the book. There is a reason why eveyone gives this book 5 stars. Frontpage 2000 is fun, plus you don't have to hear all about your or anything else you really are not interested in. Purchase this fine book and enjoy web publishing.
