"FP 2000 Bible, From Intro to Publish"
"The Front Page 2000 Bible" put me on the Internet. I am a reluctant Senior Citizen trying to keep up with technology. Just 3 years ago I was completely computer illiterate. I had been trying to get a website together for several years. I tried another WYSIWYG editor and several other books. Nothing! I purchased FP 2000 and "The FP 2000 Bible" and within several days I clicked the publish button on Front Page. I now have 4 sites on the Internet and more on the way. I have even been approached by a newspaper in Northern California to handle some of their overflow website design work. And I have been working with Front Page for less than 6 months.

No technical book can read or flow like novel. I wish they could. However, within a few days of reading and doing the examples from "The FP 2000 Bible", I uploaded my first site. The real test is what happens when you click on "publish web" in Front Page. I continually return to the book as a reference. When I am ready to try something new for one of my sites, I grab my "Bible." I think the authors did an excellent job in presenting the necessary material.

The Front Page Forum hosted by David Karlins is invaluable. Whenever I need help I go there. That's another plus. It's like continuing education, included for the initial price of the book. No one can anticipate all of the questions and impart all of the knowledge necessary to learn Front Page. To do so would take many volumes. But David fills in the gaps with his speedy and complete answers.

The Quick Guide, "The Front Page 2000 Bible" and the accompanying CD, with examples, make for a complete learning package.

"Microsoft Front Page 2000 Bible"
I am impressed with the books layout and comprehensive content. I found the accompanying CD to be quite helpful. I like that completed examples of exercises in the book (organized by chapter) are included on the CD. The CD also includes nice looking, easy-to-navigate templates.

So far, every question or stumbling block that I have come across has been addressed in this book. The index is quite complete. This book is excellent as a reference guide as well as a training guide.

I am an experienced computer user versed in many software products. I have worked for several years training people to use computers and software. As an experienced user, I have been able to teach myself FrontPage using this book. Wearing another hat, I am always looking for easy to comprehend reference books for students. This book would be helpful and comprehensible to users coming from a beginning background, while still holding the interest of more advanced users.

The "Quick Start" booklet that comes with the book is useful for people who want to quickly get started designing (and fiddling) without searching through the whole book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to design effective web pages without learning extensive programming.

"FrontPage 2000"
This is an excellent book.FrontPage 2000 is a very dynamic and complicated program. When one masters it, web design becomes second nature.Frontpage 2000 Bible is a through and easy to understand guide. It makes life on the web much easier.

"Good support from the authors"
I've read some the reviews here and on other books - "FP2000 Complete Reference" and "Using FP2000 SE" AND "Frontpage 2000 Developer's Guide"

I have "FP98 Unleashed" and "Using FP2000 SE"

I tend to buy from shops, not online as I like to thumb the pages before I buy. I bought FP2000 first, because I spotted a short section on Design Time Controls and Wizards.

I bought the book even though I am familiar with the IDG series - "BackOffice Small Business Server", "Access". Generally, the authoring briefs of these books is not my preference. Authors seem to be forced into very quick coverage of everything but insufficient pause to inform in detail. However, they suit a particular niche where you already know enough and just want to be informed of what you may have missed.

On the other hand, the "Unleashed" series is detailed but often so boring and printed in small boring type, they're the other side of undesirable.

So I bought this book knowing what it is and I am not disappointed.

I work occassionally with Visual Interdev, ASP and ADO/Database connectivity. My slant is, well, people who want more info on database connectivity should look for a different book on such stuff - an Intro/Intermediate book on FP is NOT the place to go into ASP.

The FP product itself is purposely niched - it is for users who have not made any website and want a leg up. Therefore inadequacies in Database Connectivity are purposely left so. It's like MS Publisher vs MS Word. If you want to do serious ASP, go for Visual Interdev / ASP / ADO products.

Bottom Line:

I would like all authors and publishers on FP to think "outside the box". Create three FP books at a third of the price of a full FP book. This gives us more experienced users the choice of not wasting money on 2/3 of the book unused. The books should be: a. FP Intro (covers brief info on HTML etc...) b. FP Intermediate (covers more details on using the Wizards and Webbots and DHTML tricks) c. FP Advanced/Admin (covers details on developing components for FP, automating FP with VBA, detailed info on admin of IIS/PWS)

"Horrible Reference"
The language is not comprehensible and the book is very poorly organized

"Buy it. You won't regret it.", If you're brand new to web page authoring like myself, the "Bible" is an excellent guide. I bought it on the strength of a review here at Amazon.... Everything "ep" wrote on that review is true. The Quick Start Book is exactly what it is - a quick start, and it's good. It helped me quickly understand the basics of FrontPage 2000.

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Bible by Edelbrock and Karlin is an excellent supplement to an excellent software. It's not perfect, like "ep" pointed out, but I'm building a departmental intranet using only this book and the program's user help index.

"Don't ever touch the software", This book is good, but the problem lies in the application software itself. Frontpage is the worst ever happens to me. If I'd known Dreamweaver, I'd never had spent 2 weeks learning the Frontpage. You'd love the bible series if you're a beginner, but if you want something more advanced, then look else where.

"good deal", This book, as all of Karlins books, is an excellent guide to FrontPage 2000. More than a quick reference, this bible will explain everything you need to know about using FrontPage 2000.

"Tremendous Resource", The FrontPage 2000 Bible is a must for anyone interested inusing FrontPage 2000. This book provides step by step, in depth, anddetailed guidance for getting the most out of this mind blowing application! Elderbrock and Karlins did a fantastic job...

"Two stars for the quickstart, the only thing of value", A bloated piece of junk.

If you want crossbrowser compatability, don't buy FrontPage. p. 462 "The bottom line on DHTML effects: they only work with Microsoft's browser. TIP: The DHTML effects are controlled by an included JavaScript file called animate.js. You can also edit this file to deal with the Netscape browser."

Isn't that why I bought the *(*$&$#* book! GIVE ME SOMETHING I CAN ACTUALLY USE!

If you want ASP, don't look here either. Chapter 18 refers you to "a later chapter", chapter 21 refers you back to 18 and "a later chapter" that I couldn't find, I think I was just too annoyed to search.

I am so disappointed with this book (and the limitations Micro$oft imposed on FrontPage) that I'll probably dump FrontPage altogether and get DreamWeaver instead.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"A disappointing reference for experienced FrontPage users", I bought this book based upon the favorable recommendations of this author's Frontpage 98 Bible, and the supposed strength he gave to database connectivity issues in that edition. I was quite disappointed, then, to read that not only does the FP2000 Database Results Wizard NOT support Add, Modify and Delete SQL statements, but the author provides no alternatives to handling these important commands. The chapter on databases also confusingly uses the term "Channel" in its chapter title (carryover from FP98 perhaps, which used "channels"?) though there is nothing said about "channels" in that chapter. One "tip" in the book has blank spaces where it looks like someone was supposed to fill-in key information before the book was published (but they obviously forgot to do that!). The book index seemed thin, too. I kept searching for terms that weren't there. Finally, there was scant mention of how to customize themes, and the issues of using FP98 themes in a FP2000 web. Bottom line: pass on this book.

"A Most Complete Refence for FrontPage 2000", This is a very good reference for FrontPage 2000. It covers practically every aspect of the powerful web design software from Micro$oft. It also goes over Microsoft Image Composer and other auxiliary packages as well.

I would have given it a five-star rating had it covered database connectivity in more detail. Also missing is Active Server Pages. I just wish it had gone a little beyond FP and dealt with these issues more (esp. since FP 2000 makes it easy to connect to ODBC databases).
