"Great Reference Book"
I draw a blank sometimes on what to say and when to say it. That's why I bought to book - to fill in the blanks !! Love it ! More than I expected.

"The best so far"
A lot has been written already about this book, so I would like to concentrate on one major feature of this manual.

I have several books about letter writing and this is the one I most often use and whoever I showed this book to wanted to buy it. Books of this kind fall into two broad categories: 1. short explanations and a lot of sample letters. 2. long explanations and a reasonable amount of sample letters. This book, however, shows that something more can be done. I usually have the problem with the first category that some authors tend to empty their Document folders from the work computers into a book and write some clever remarks as an introduction to them. Rosalie Maggio's book introduces methodology into the editing process: she gives you useful advice and also warning what not to do, but after that the topics are built up from word level gradually through phrases, sentences, paragraphs until you get to the actual sample letters. This way, you get much more useful material than you could get only with sample letters.

"A Good Resource"
In attempting to put together a training session on communication, I was at a loss in where to begin and what to cover. The topic can be a sensitive one, especially when working with non-native English speakers.

I found the book to be very helpful. It was great to point to samples that have been effective and use those as boilerplate templates to teach the class. The participants learned a lot and many purchased the book to have for themselves afterwards as a reference.

"How To Say It"
I just love this book (and this is the 2nd time I have ordered it, for friends as a gift). It is a very useful book and whenever I give it as a gift the receiver just loves it! (And it keeps them from having to borrow mine all of the time!)

"How to Say It: Choice Words, Phrases, Sentences, and Paragraphs for Every Situation, Revised Edition"
This is not what I expected or wanted. The book is written for business senarios with very few suggestions of a personal nature. The description of the book does not indicate that it is mainly for business use.

"You'll never be lost for words.", This book is a great help for any writing project. I would have liked it better, however, if there were more samples of personal writing projects.

"Office essential!", This book is an absolute must for any office professional. I purchased the book for a co-worker as a gift, then wore-out my welcome borrowing it and had to get a copy for myself! "Great Book", This is a pretty good book. It focuses on writings though. If you would like to have a book that speaks on communication in general, then I would suggest "How to Use Power Phrases" by Meryl Runion or optimally both books. The examples in "Power Phrases" are verbal examples, but can be used in both situations. "How to say it" should be titled "How to put it in writing"


"Great Graduation Gift", I believe the ability to write a thoughtful and effective letter is an important skill to have, and one that many younger people today are not developing due to all of our electronic communications. I got this for a graduation gift and it has truly helped me become better at writing good letters for my new "adult" life, from thank you letters to job correspondence and more.

"How to say it", This is a must have for anyone who writes, talks, or otherwise communicates with other people. I use it all the time for writing letters.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"It's on my desk and other come to borrow it often", It's wonderful! It made me popular at work because others would come over to borrow it. And I purchased this one solely because I find myself constantly borrowing it from someone else before.

"A must have book", As non native speaker this book helps me in many situation. I usually open it once a week ... It is indeed mostly focused on business issues eventhough there're chapters on "family & friends", "seasonal greetings", etc.

"Too much business related - not enough personal.", I am a stay-at-home mom looking for simple - yet unique - ways to say "thank you, congratulations, I'm sorry ..." to various people. This book devotes much of its pages to business-related writing, which I no longer need. While I have found a few nuggets of inspiration here and there, I am not particularly inspired by her suggestions of using, "I love it!" for a thank you note or "thinking of you" for a sympathy card. I could probably have come up with those on my own.

"My life is so much easier now!", If you're like I was, you've got a stack of letters gathering dust and taking up room on your desk because it TAKES SO MUCH TIME and is SUCH A CHORE to answer them all. Not that I didn't love all those people dearly, but what do you say when your childhood friend loses her husband? How can you POSSIBLY maker her feel better? Or what about the letter to the credit company that keeps charging you incorrectly? It's THEIR fault, so why should you spend an hour trying to figure out how to explain their errors? I was getting to be just terrible -- after a while I didn't even bother to send thank you notes. Well, this book was a real revelation for me. It's no surprise that my husband got it for me (somehow I always end up writing HIS letters, too) because this is just what I needed. I write great letters now and I'm able to let people know I care without it taking all day. I have even starting buying nice stationery. If you've got that stack of unanswered mail, you NEED to have this book. No more brain damage, no more searching for the right words, no more worrying about sounding stupid or trying to fill up space on a card. I only wish I'd known about it earlier!

"Is letter writing a tedious chore? This book is for you!", This is a wonderful reference tool for letter writing to use both at work and at home. Anytime you have to compose a letter (personal or business), just turn to the content section, find the type of letter you need and turn to that page.

Suggested words, phrases and paragraphs follow each section to help you in constructing your letter. After the last letter section, the helpful appendices begin by including the mechanics and content instructions on letter writing. The sample letters together with the tips provided definitely make this book worthwhile.
