Others say...
"refret job done at home!" This very helpful book provided me confidence to tackle a partial refret on my 12 yr old washburn D34S (wideneck: 12 fret). It's a scary moment when you start pulling frets out of the board, believe me! I will say that no book is completely thorough in describing such work, but this is one of the better resources I have found.
"Guitar Fretboard Workbook" I bought this book to help my husband learn how to better play his guitar. This book has truly helped him learn and better understand other tools he has. He is very happy and excited. I can now enjoy hearing him rehearse:-) janbustr:-)
"Fill the gaps in your fretboard knowledge!" Great way to build a road map around the fretboard. Builds precept upon precept, one building block after another till you have a good grasp of the neck. My eyes are opened!
"Intuitive Instructional Workbook" MI's Guitar Fretboard Workbook, written by: Barrett Tagliarino is the second workbook I have studied out of. I immediately noticed how the pictures and diagrams were so intuitive. It took a lot less effort to memorize the concepts simply because they made much more sense. Tagliarino removed the mystery, and immediately made it easy for me to grasp, and memorize the five root shapes with his diagram in the workbook. Ultimately this is why I bought a workbook like this in the first place. Great job, Barrett!
I do not know this author. Just really like his book.

"adding to the chorus" Since 1969 when I first started learning guitar, I have accumulated (count 'em!) about four feet of instructional books. Despite hours of pouring over this stack, I STILL didn't have a sense for the fretboard. Most of what I play are chords to sing along with and a few pieces I have memorized.
I'm on vacation studying Tagliarino's book and in a few days feel like I FINALLY have a sense for the fretboard. It is rare to find a great teacher, and even rarer to find a book that is thought out to meet the needs of the learner.
This book presents in an orderly manner that gives one a sense for patterns inherent in the fretboard a stepwise approach to learning the fretboard. There are multiple 'homework' assignments with an answer key in the back. Tagliarino's suggestions for practice are also exactly what I have wanted for years.
So, add this 5 star review to the chorus. As far as I am concerned, if it isn't already, add this book to the classics of instructional classics

What our customer's say!
"Best book for me at this stage of my musical knowledge", I have made it through chapter 8 and I am learning more than I have during the past 20 years of playing. I wish that I had done this sooner but better late than never. This is a great book to go through before attempting to start the Music theory book by Tom Kolb, which I will start next.
"Get it", If you ever wanted to see the neck as one topic, this is the book to have. If learning guitar was like basic training, this book would be your PT shorts.
"Good book for students to use", I have some of my advanced students use this book as a way to reinforce the fretboard and music theory.
"The best of the 3 fretboard learning books I reviewed", I bought Sololow's Fretboard Roadmaps, the Fretboard Logic SE book, and this workbook at about the same time. Of the three, this one was the most useful and best written. It would be even better if they released a software version so you could "drill" practice on the patterns. But for $15 I think this is a great resource and should be one of the first 5 things new guitarists put in their "library".
"Prepare to spend some time with this book", There's no substitute for knowing what you're doing when you are learning an instrument. This book will take you a long way but you must be willing to put in some time with it. Personally, I find it almost addictive with it's worksheets. My son calls them puzzles.
Figure on taking a year to work through the material. Getting in a hurry will cause confusion and you'll just have to back up and start again. I find that for me I absolutely have to finish each worksheet several times before it really takes root. My routine is to spend maybe fifteen minutes or so a day in the Guitar Fretboard Workbook and then go on to my regular practice.
This is highly recommended. If I had found it years ago I wouldn't be struggling with my playing now.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"not a good book to learn anything. very confusing", I am trying to find a book that will explain how to position your fingers for different cords, maybe show you how to play a few songs, and perhaps show you how to strum the guitar in an effective manner, said that. this book is not at all what I was looking for. even you are a good guitar player you wont be able to make heads of tales of the material on this book.
"This book is wonderful!!", This is an actual workbook on the fretboard of the guitar. I enjoy using this book and suggest it to anyone over 13 that is serious about learning to play guitar.
"Amazing book. It will help you play better.", I'll keep this short since there are already so many 5-star reviews for this product.
This book is the one. If you want to learn the notes on the fretboard and all minor/major scales and modes and chords and practical music theory, this is the book to get. It's not terribly long, but it has a lot of useful information and doesn't waste any time. Many times through the book, it will have you fill out a series of 8-10 fretboard diagrams with some new idea you just learned, then it will ask you to play what you just wrote. I really think this is such an effective method, yet it's so simple. It also asks you to say important ideas aloud so as to learn them better.
"Wow!", VERY informative. Geared towards intermediate level. As a beginner-intermediate musician, I found it easy to follow with lots of exercises to cement the information in your mind. I would have liked more "secrets" or tools to finding notes on the guitar neck, but still an excellent read.
"Weak", This book would be a lot better if it explained things more thoroughly and relied less on the reader drawing scale diagrams. Doing the work is fine but the book just doesn't explain the topic very well. Also, I found several errors in the first 30 pages--diagrams wrong, explanations wrong, answers wrong (like, where is E#????), etc. It does a poor job of explaining the relative relationships between scales. I gave it two stars because of the root positions diagrams. These were very useful. Could have been a lot better.
