"Great for beginners and advanced users"
I am an excel power user. I used this book to help me organize a training class for my co-workers, who are all at different skill levels. I picked up some quick tips along the way -- shortcuts that I never took the time to learn before. Neat. This book goes through beginner skills, moderate and advanced skills (macros and pivot tables). The exercises on the CD are very useful. This book is often missing from my desk....

"Great"
I've been using Excel -- and everything since Supercalc -- almost forever. But I've never had any instruction. This book is a great way to get a better understanding of the hard bits - pivot tables, for example - without having to wade through tedious material on the basics. Probably a great book for beginners as well, judging from how well harder topics are presented.

This book is great!
If you never used excel or have just started learning the program you will definitely benefit from this book! Everything is explained in simple steps with diagrams to look up to. The CD with exercises is helpful, unless you're like me and like to start from scratch. I tried using excel for dummies but found it to be blah...this is sooooo much better!!
Definitely a must have!

"A good introduction"
I needed to learn how to use Excel quickly for a new job and Personal Trainer was a good tool. The book is organized into chapters and lessons that increase in complexity as you progress. The opening lessons are simplistic and if you have basic computer knowledge, you can skip them. My advice is to go to the back of each lesson, where there is a brief bulleted synopsis, to decide whether you need to study it in depth. There is also a disk that includes interactive lessons that you complete as you read. While I had no experience with Excel before purchasing the book, I now feel confident that I can perform even complex tasks such as writing and editing macros and making pivot tables without much difficulty.

"Not too bad on a Mac either!"
Granted, this book is for Windows and a software version ago but I found it to be a VERY useful resource. I use it for MAC and just tailor it around the 2004 for Mac edition. It has a CD in the back with trial documents that teach you as if you have never turned on your computer before. Language that you can understand, screen shots so you can see exactly what something looks like. It is a great learning tool for formulas.
