"Perfect for any Student", I'm eager to get my MOS certification and I'm confident that this book can help me get it.

It starts out pretty slow - covering the basics and introducing you to the essentials of using a computer and understanding excel. That doesn't mean that you should skip over the beginning. The beginning has some very interesting techniques on using excel and handling cell formating that no one should ignore.

The guts of this book is in functions and how easily it allows you to understand them. I've been using excel for nearly all of my college career, and I find that functions are the sunshine and the bane of any student's existence. They allow you to do so much but if you don't understand them your better off using a calculator. With this book, you'll get it and get your work done fast and with minimal errors.

The only complaint I have about this book that it has too few practice scenarios. They really help you ingrain the information but they're so few of them that it becomes a tedium to practice the same ones over and over again ... (Well, I like to practice till I'm dead tired, maybe you'll find the 32 practice scenarios for the 12 chapters enough, but I'm a geek and I would like more.)

This book covers everything you need to know for the exams and more than enough for anyone who wants to make their life easier when using excel.

"not good for kindle.", this book was a waste of my money. examples are in tiny print you need to buy this as a real book

"Excel book", This is the best book ever for someone that needs to learn anything about excel and how to use the spreadsheets, workbooks and any function within. I would recommend this book to users that have never used excel to the more advanced user that needs to utilize other aspects that they have never used before. Great book.

"Excel ent", I've taken a loooong time over this review. Mainly because I didn't believe a book about Excel could be so good!

It would be easy to go on and on but I'm desperately trying to keep it short!!... Soooo... here goes!

This book could easilly be renamed ... "How to... in Excel". I mean it. It's absolutely full of tips hints and suggestions for stuff you didn't think you could do... but can!! The "real world scenarios" are a great touch.

I thought I was pretty well versed in Excel. Reading this book... I'm not saying I was wrong... I just learnt so much more!!!

But..It's an MOS book.. and in that context it walks through all of the items needed to become certified. Actually it strolls.. with an easy gait. I tried this on my non cumputer litrate mum and actually bought her the book becuase I wouldn't have got it back otherwise!! Likewise my brother.. who uses Excel in his work daily.. just had to have a copy of his own... another birthday present solved!

As an MOS book... everything is there. *All* the stuff you need to get qualified with examples downloadable from the Wiley site. My copy is a christmas tree of coloured sticky tags to go back to. The explanations are step by step and have clearly been worked on till they are on the money. I know. Because I didn't want my mum to come back at me and say "but it said.."... I took a lot of time working through them all... each and every instruction for every example.. and all worked as stated for me, which is in itself unusual!

You may have gathered by now that this is not just an MOS book. It's a book for anyone who wants to do something with Excel... and it's got pictures!!

Linda has done a remarkable nee miraculous job of producing a book that is readable as well as useable by both novices and experts.

If you get this book you will definately not be dissapointed.

"Excellent Book", This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to become certified or just wants learn how to use Excel. The book is easy to read and the step by step exercises make learning new skills effortless. With all the material covered, you are sure to find what you are looking for. Showing multiple ways to do one thing was also a big plus, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has the need to learn Excel.

"More than an MOS guide", Although the book is a study guide for MOS, you don't have to be taking that exam(s) to benefit from this book. If you are intimidated by spreadsheets, and want to get started with a text book equivalent of your school books, this book fits the requirement.

And of course, if you are a candidate for a MOS exam, then you'll love the book. I liked how it is laid out -- the exercises are "real life" and the scenarios are thoughful and well explained.

"Exactly The Level I Needed", When I saw this book on the shelf I almost passed it by. The blurb on the back cover talks a lot about this being a study guide to pass the Microsoft Office Specialist test. I wasn't interested in taking such a test, I just needed to know more about Excel for a project that I had to do. But I picked it up to look over and was surprised that it contained exactly what I wanted to know.

On page 3, just after a few pages of introduction it starts off talking about what all those icons on the default bars at the top of the screen mean. I've used Excell enough to know some of them, but here, for the first time, was a description of the various default and optional toolbars and the icons that appear on them.

I'm not so sure that I'd recommend this for the absolute beginner, on the other hand, I think it brought me from novice up to intermediate. The particular thing that I was needing was a discussion on pivot tables. Her ten pages or so on pivot tables was exactly what I needed.

The book is clearly written and suitable for nearly anyone, not just those planning on taking the test.

"A Good Study Guide", This is a very well written book that thoughtfully and clearly explains the concepts presented. If you are planning on taking the exam to become MOS certified in Excel, this is an excellent book to use. The book starts out fairly simply; the first chapter goes over the basics of navigating and understanding Excel's interface. Even with a fairly good knowledge of Excel, I found the chapters informative and even in areas I thought I already had a good understanding I usually picked up a tip or two. The chapters have easy to follow examples that put to use the information previously presented. The scenarios provide a chance to actually use what was presented in the chapter without step by step instructions, by letting you think through it yourself. The book provides examples of each area, but you will still need to explore Excel on your own as stated in the book. I wish I had this book about 2 months ago when we were struggling with creating a formula that would calculate elapsed hours over more than one day. Had I had a better understanding of how Excel handles dates (as explained in this book) we would have figured out a solution much quicker. I would recommend this book to anyone who is either thinking of or planning on taking the MOS exam. It's pushed me further in that direction.
