Too many operational details are missing: hit this key, then go to x and enter ..... etc. In sum, although my system is up and running (and was before I bought the book), I am missing instruction on many basic operations.
Try somewhere else.

"WINDOWS VISTA", Windows Vista For Dummies
I have read alot of these books and find this one actually more complicated than the rest. Vista is fairly new anyway!. I bought the TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY / MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA after this book and found it to be a much better learning tool than this one. I prefer visuals anyway and will probably not buy anymore dummy books without visuals. I think most of them are text anyway, so unless they change some of the future content to visual, they can keep the rest. I wish I had saved my money on this one.

"Great book", This is a great book for people who do not understand vista and it's complicated GUI. This was great i got it for my grandparents and now they are asking me about things i have no idea about, and I'm a CIS major. Great book really suggest it

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Shallow for nine books", I am warming to Vista but not because of this book. I thought it would be a good reference but it's pretty shallow. When I've had questions, the answers often aren't in the book; e.g., I just wanted to change file associations today, can't find that in index, briefly mentioned in Chapter 3 which says go to Book I, but it's not really there. Finally, I just used the built-in help. Two ways to do it, not bad!

The Dummies style is often cute, but here is the thing: Vista is an operating system and I just want the answers I don't really want the long-winded cuteness and this author has too much style. The book is over 700 pages, far as i can tell, because several hundred pages seem like folksy anecdote or anti-MS (he's really steamed about the lack of default extensions)...

My main criticism, and maybe i just misunderstood the book so i don't know if this is fair, is that I expected 9-in-1 to be a comprehensive Vista reference but (i) it doesn't cover certain things at all/in depth an (ii) much of the other "books" are really basic and about other stuff (e.g., internet, podcasting). So maybe this is a good introduction for someone who hasn't used Windows before and the associated tools, but as a reference, i am reaching for the built in help

"Easy read", I purchased for my wife to use with her new laptop a vista.

She seems to enjoy the writing style and I see her with it frequently

Worth buying.

"Filled with complaints...Why not just go to Slashdot?", I bought this book thinking I'd get more familiar with Vista, since some of my clients may have it. Instead, I find the guy proselytizing about "software as a service," DRM, anti-competitive behavior, bloat, and everything else you can hate Microsoft for. While many of his criticisms are valid from my perspective, they have nothing to do with a reference or introduction to Vista, and I was very disappointed.

"good resource", I purchased this book to use to get acquainted with my new vista software. It helped me to solve some small inital problems. But as I read through the book it showed me lots of ways to make my computer work better for me. It is a great reference book. It is something I will pick up and check as I continue to work with vista.

"Windows Vista users Must Have", This book is a must have for Windows Vista users. It is literally 9,yes,9 books in one! It is great!!! It tells you everything you need to know,and otherwise would have no way of knowing,by the way,about Windows Vista and all its vast programs and files. It will serve as an invaluable desk reference and no doubt anyone could benefit from it. It is very user friendly and written in layman's terms. Very Good!
