"A good tool for writing"
This book is pretty damn good, and is a great value too. I took the advice of another reviewer and just skipped the directions and dove right in. That's the best way to use this book, poke around and see what it has to offer. There's a pronunciation key at the bottom of each page to remind you of their conventions, and once you get used to how the book is organized it is easy to use. This book is also very complete, even stretching conventions a little. I would add, though, that it should not be your only rhyming dictionary. Use it in conjunction with the Penguin Rhyming Dictionary or some other indexed type to give you the best coverage.

"Not for Perfect Rhymers"
For a person who limits rhyming to only perfect rhyme (example: say and day,) The Complete Rhyming Dictionary is too complicated and complete for them. These rhymers should really purchase an alphabetized volume of rhymes.

Wood's book is arranged by vowel sound, not alphabet. If a reader looks up the sound----long "a" as in the word day-----, he will see words such as say, day, lay, may etc. But what if none of these perfect word rhymes fit sensibly into a poem that you were working on? A rhymer might need to deviate slightly off from these 'perfects', still get good rhyme, and make sense within their poem. Wood's work makes this approach easy. All a reader has to do is look at columns next to the long "a" sound and find a multitude of other words to work with. For instance, the word "day" is close in rhyme to "afraid". A poem writer can use these two words which are definitely not perfect rhyme, but close enough. This close-enough approach is used especially in song lyric writing. When sung the "d" in afraid is hardly noticeable. A listener of music will only really hear the long "a" sound and think it is perfect rhyme.

If you do a research for rhyming dictionary - this is the best you'll ever find. It does take some time to figure out how to use it but after a while it becomes a useful tool.

"Easy to use, very helpful", I just got this a couple days ago and can't believe how very useful it is. I had previously been using an internet rhyming website but this has so many more rhymes and near rhymes.

I find the organization system to be intuitive when writing verse. First all the one syllable rhymes are listed alphabetically by the sound you are rhyming. For example, rhymes ending in AN (adman, Afhgan,....) go before rhymes ending in AR (bar, babar) Then the two syllable rhymes are listed in the next section, ABLE going before ASHUN (like the sound in nation), then finally the three syllable rhymes are listed. It makes looking for specific rhymes very easy. (There are plenty of rhymes in between AN and AR and ABLE adn ASHUN, these are just examples.)

I don't have any other experience with rhyming dictionaries, but I can't imagine a system that is easier to use.

"Rhyming Dictionary With A Learning Curve", First off - it is printed on paper, that looks and feels like old newsprint. I was looking for an easy to use dictionary much like the Webster one. I write songs and have been doing so for over 40 years. The rhymes are not separated by the number of syllables BUT by alphabetical order. Why? I use a rhyming dictionary to look up a new word rhyme, not look up a word that I already know. The worst part for me is that the dictionary lists the words in a phonetic format which means the words don't look like they do when printed. So you have to learn phonetics - that means you have to learn all the special little codes that are used to describe phonetics. That can take a few hours I guess. I have never met someone that uses this book. I bought it because I like to keep up with my craft and it is cheap enough to investigate. I really hate to give a negative review but here it is. I will say that if you already know phonetics and all the special coding they use in this book, and you want to learn about the craft of poetry, you may get something out of this book.

"Great rhyming dictionary but unless one is writing Shakespeare ... ", ... probably too much to sift just to find a few single syllable rhymes. Better to search online and narrow it down a little first.

"One of my favorites", This is a book you will cherish. I had a copy for many years, and then somehow lost it in a move. I'll be buying a new copy now.

I love the fact that in addition to the huge resource of rhymes, this book has a treasure trove of information on poetry.

"Too Complicated", You're writing a poem or song. You've got one word, and want a rhyming word. So you need a rhyming dictionary. Look up the word you know and find other rhyming words. How simple does it get? Well with this dictionary - forget it. This is arranged NOT alphabetically by word, but by vowel "sound". They have transformed what should be a simple process into a chore.

"Help in writing poetry and other things", I purchased this volume in a hardbound version years ago and wanted a smaller copy for our summer house, since I use it so often. Some may think using a rhyming dictionary is "cheating," but it simply offers suggestions and guidance.

Also, having this English language version helped me realize that such a volume is also great for a foreign language student. I believe this particular version only comes in English. However, having something similar in other languages is a good way for a student to increase vocabulary and insight.

If you've never written a verse for a friend on their birthday, Fathers' Day, Mothers' Day, etc. try it. This book will help you put into words "who they are" for you, in both humorous and serious ways. It offers super suggestions, plus options on every vowel sound, both single and multiple syllable.

Highly recommended to boost your creativity!

"Old Poet Checks Rhym", This book contains rhyming lists of great depth. As an older poet and writer, I find it is very useful because I have forgotten some of the words I need and find new ones I can use. Gene Miller

"Must have for poetry class", This dictionary is excellent if you need something to help you find the right words to use for your poetry class!

"Highly Overated Book, To Say The Least", This book was recommended in another book I bought about songwriting. Although I thought it seemed a little high for a basic paperback novel type book, I bought it. The book is not very helpful at all. It is organized in a strange way that is somewhat hard to follow. There are much better Rhyming Dictionaries available on Amazon and cheaper for that matter.
