What our customer's say!
"Amazing book!", This book is amazing for graphic artists. It's full of tons of tricks to perfect your design game. I recommend it!
"Disappointing;sparse info on a complicated program", I was very disappointed in this book. The cost of the book, even used, does not justify the content; sparse on instructions for a highly complicated program. Illustrator requires detailed instructions because it is not necessarily user intuitive nor friendly. The book features many pages of fancy colored illustrations created w/ the program but does not go into any details on how they were created. Even some of Illustrator's advanced features like Live Trace and mesh blends; not enough instructions provided. Important areas such as Pathfinder and custom brush, I felt was glossed over. The help files on the accompanying CD is no better. Tutorials on the bezier pen tool is marginal at best. You'll find much better tutorials on Adobe's website. Its a good book for getting inspiration with the full color gallery section but don't expect much on clear detailed instructions.
"Hard to follow, thank goodness for lecture!", I had to purchase this book for a Adobe Illustrator class I am currently taking. I have to admit, this book really hasn't helped me learn a thing. It is very hard to follow and I am constantly lost during the sample exercises in each chapter. My professor has even told us to not follow quite a few of the steps and shows us the right way to do it. I'm so thankful I have a lecture to supplement reading, but at the same point that means I cannot miss one class! I have given up on the book as of now, the eighth week of class. I took a class last semester on InDesign, the text book was amazing (Exploring InDesign by Terry Rydberg)! I wish this book had the same type of format.
"GReat service", I got the my book even before the date that was promised as it was offered^^ excellent service! Thank you very much.
"The Wow is more of a what?", This was required material for my digital Illustration class. Needless to say Adobe Illustrator beginners beware. Yes, this book has great content but does not take you through step by step with directions. Most of the exercises only supply a general overview of how to apply the techniques. Even though I am not a beginner with Adobe Illustrator there were points where the rest of the class as well as myself were completely lost with the instructions. I am going to go through a tutorial now and then I will try the exercises again, hopefully I will have better luck with it then.

"The WOW I am Looking For", A great book, it helps a lot, a lot of effort was put into making this book, I like the Zen chapter, this chapter helps you think in Illustrator, Highly Recommended.
"Great book on Adobe Illustrator CS3 taking you beyond the basics", This is a great and inspirational book on Adobe Illustrator CS3. There are numerous nice examples illustrating how one can achieve effects found in professional work. The book does not go into all the details, and assumes that you already know the basics - or that you are willing to put in the extra effort required to catch up. Adobe's CS3 Classroom in Book is a good way to come up to speed. CS3 WOW does a great job of showcasing what is possible with Illustrator, and is strongly recommended.
"Hard to Follow", I didn't get beyond the first chapter of this book, which is simultaneously too macro and micro to really help a beginner in Illustrator who understands other products, like Photoshop. To quote a recently re-viewed Seinfeld episode, "It's a lot of fluff."
""WOW!" is right!", I spend entirely too much money on Adobe training, peripherals and other reading materials. This, however, was a great purchase. I have been using Adobe Illustrator since 3.0, so I have a good foundation in the software. There are always new things to learn about these fantastic programs, but with the apps that are Not Photoshop, decent advanced books can be difficult to come by.
While this is not a book that I would recommend to somebody who has never used Illustrator before, neither is it one that is above the average user's head. There are plenty of exercises that cover Illustrator basics, including a "Zen of Illustrator" chapter that presents several methods of creating a single simple shape for the purpose of learning to Think Illustrator.
After that are plenty of step-by-step tutorials for how to create nifty effects that most people don't even associate with Illustrator. Even if you never worked through these exercises, the examples alone would make the book worthwhile...on the order of the gourmet "food porn" cookbooks.
If you're learning Illustrator from the ground up, I suggest the Classroom In A Book title. If you already know how to work in Illustrator and want to move beyond the basics, however, this book is definitely worth the price.
"The Adobe Illustrator CS3, WOW! Indispensable: A Critical Review.", The Adobe Illustrator CS3, WOW! Indispensable: A Critical Review.
I bought this book several months ago as a part of a three-book purchase in order to get a grip and master the Adobe CS3 premium suite. This book is phenomenal. There are many reasons why one should own this book. First, it is a great compliment to The CS3 For Dummies, as Dummies is essentially a reference book that explains the use of the tools and what CS3 is capable of. Dummies, unlike this book, WOW and another that I'm recommending, How to Cheat in Adobe Flash CS3 , Dummies does not give you real-world examples, nor in color, nor does it provide you with a CD rom of extras which this Wow! book (and, Cheat in Flash) does.
To say that this entire production suite enables one to create artwork, create animation, repair photos, design brochures, create and publish websites is saying alot, All of this is possible (and more with this Design Suite.), but there is a steep learning curve with all of the applications, if you're fully interested in doing really amazing work. This is why all three books are essential.
WOW, Illustrator, is essentially a reference book filled with essays by artist whom have produced work with the Creative Suite and want to share the process of some of their work. This book is fairly detailed and aside from the CD rom, each of the chapters has the essay plus-- along the margins--color step by step, before and after pictures of each step. So, if there are 7 steps to a project, the margins will have a total of 14 pictures that accompanies the written text. And, going through a few of the exercises, it really helps to reinforce the material.
The main author, Sharon Steuer, suggests that after one graduates from this book to purchase Real World Adobe Illustrator CS3. It may or may not be necessary, but certainly, if you want to enhance your ability to work in vector-based objects, transfer jpg, photos or "rasterized" images to vector, create logos or as a part of a project to transfer to Flash, InDesign or Dreamweaver, this book will be of great service to you. Again, I strongly suggest picking up a copy of CS3 for Dummies, first then adding this book, WOW!, to have a strong command of Illustrator (and Cheat in Flash) for the Flash software. If you're like me, and a lot of ideas are circulating in your head and you've wondered how expensive it would be to pay someone to do it, then these books will be a lifesaver.
Strongly recommended.
